Chapter 424 - Chapter 424 - DC and Marvel (Part 1)

Looking at the girl with beautiful blue eyes in front of him, he felt like he was in love! After attending a comic book gathering, he happened to come to this bookstore to buy some books, and he coincidentally bumped into her, and she liked comics too! Did all these coincidences mean that the Goddess of Fate had specially drawn a red thread for him?

"Laila, do you know what books you're here to buy? I come to this bookstore often, and if you can't find what you're looking for, I can show you around," he asked, feigning enthusiasm. God knows how many years it had been since he had shown such warmth to a stranger.

"If you have the time," Laila didn't mind, and she welcomed the idea of having someone to accompany her while shopping. To be honest, shopping alone could be quite lonely.

"Of course! Of course, I have time! I'm very free!" He didn't decline her, which made the man excited beyond belief. But he quickly realized he might have said something wrong and hastily corrected himself, "No, I'm not just idling around. I have an event today, so I took the day off. That's why I have time!"

He said it all in a jumbled mess. An attractive girl who didn't refuse him! Could anyone believe his luck? He was starting to think he might be dreaming!

Seeing his nervousness, Laila smiled and said, "I understand. So, can you take me to where the bestsellers are? I want to see what's popular lately."

"Okay, no problem." Owen laughed dryly, cursing himself half to death in his heart. He finally had a girl he could talk to normally. What was he nervous about?

He didn't know that Laila was willing to let him accompany her, mainly because he didn't recognize her. This is also related to the fact that she wears more clothes in winter. If she puts on a hat and scarf and changes her usual hairstyle, no one will recognize her. In her opinion, people who like comics usually have higher nerd attributes, so they probably won't be interested in her, who often appears on the entertainment pages.

She was right, Owen did not recognize her. Although this is Hollywood, anyone you pick up on the street likely has experience in a few TV or movie roles, but that doesn't mean that everyone who looks good is an actor. Mainly because he didn't think that any celebrity would care about someone like him, so he didn't think about it at all.

Best-selling books are easy to find in bookstores. If you look at the most eye-catching location, you can see some display stands stacked with books. Laila stood in front of a display stand, picked up a book, and took a look at it.

Owen peeked at her from the side and felt that she was like a heroine coming out of a comic book. She was so beautiful, and every move she made carried a special temperament that was hard to describe. If this couldn't be called love at first sight, he didn't know what it was!

"Laila, are you a model?" He finally couldn't help asking her.

Laila was stunned for a moment when she was asked, and then she smiled and said, "No, I'm not." "

Then you are an actor?"

"No." Laila looked at him and asked with a smile, "Why do you think that?"

Owen smiled and scratched his head. He scratched his head: "You are very beautiful. I thought you were also an actress who came to Hollywood to look for opportunities." Hearing the negative answer, he breathed a sigh of relief from the bottom of his heart. He just said that if such a beautiful girl had become an actress, she would have already become famous. How could she go to a bookstore with a strange man like him who likes comics?

Laila smiled: "I have no talent for acting."

"But you..."

"What's wrong with me?" She raised her eyebrows.

Owen felt a little embarrassed: "You are very beautiful. You will become famous as a star."

"Thank you." No one would refuse such a sincere compliment, including Laila. In her eyes, the other person was much younger than her. Being called beautiful by such a shy boy who looked like a younger brother would naturally make her happy.

It's a pity that poor Roy doesn't know this. With his temperament, he can praise the women he plays with freely, and he can boast that she is the most beautiful woman in the world. But when he was in front of the person he liked, he completely lost that free and easy attitude. It was probably hopeless to expect him to say complimentary words about her beauty in front of Laila.

"Laila if you like reading, you don't need to focus on the best-selling books. There are also many good unpopular books." Owen gradually relaxed because of her kindness and began to tell her his suggestions.

Laila agreed with him, but bestselling books were ideal for film adaptations due to their larger fan base. However, after browsing for a while, she couldn't find any books that truly caught her eye. Even if there were one or two good options, her company had already acquired the rights or was in the process of doing so.

"You're right. Do you have any recommendations?" she asked.

Owen hesitated. He wanted to find a reason to keep walking with her after she finished browsing bestsellers, but he wasn't sure he could provide good book recommendations. Compared to books, he found comics much more interesting. But revealing that might damage his image in front of the beautiful girl.

After thinking for a while, he awkwardly admitted, "I'm not really into books, but I know a lot about comics."

Surprisingly, Laila responded with, "Comics? That's nice."

This unexpected reply delighted Owen. He quickly seized the opportunity and suggested, "This isn't the best place for conversation. I know a nearby café with great coffee. How about we go there to chat if you're interested in comics?"

Laila checked her watch; it was just past three. She shrugged and smiled, "Why not? I also want to learn more about comics."

Owen mentally celebrated his luck. Excitedly, he said, "The café is very close by. Follow me!"

Little did he know that his elated expression was reflected in the glass, and Laila saw it. With someone interesting by her side, she felt that humans were indeed social creatures, and conversations were more enjoyable with company.

After subtly signaling her bodyguards that everything was fine, she followed Owen to the supposedly fantastic coffee shop.

The café was indeed nearby, taking less than ten minutes to walk to. It had a decor reminiscent of comics and the anime aesthetic, with portraits of Captain America and Superman outside. Various symbols from comics, like Captain America's shield and Batman's bat emblem, were also prominently displayed.

Even without entering, Laila could already guess the theme of the café. It seemed like her decision to come out this afternoon was quite spot on.
