Chapter 392 - Chapter 392 - New Evidence of Cheating (Part One)

Demi was caught off guard. "Those reporters will ask about Roy's... situation." She almost blurted out the word "cheating" but managed to stop herself just in time. She didn't want to poke at her boss's wound.

"Ha. Don't worry; things aren't that bad." Laila knew that people were most interested in news like this and were eager to discuss similar topics with others. She wanted to increase her visibility in the East, and relying solely on official media praise wouldn't be enough. It would only engage those who cared about movies and the film industry.

However, rumors were different. People of all ages loved to talk about them.

After the incident with Roy, Laila had been thinking about how to increase her fame in the East using this opportunity. Leveraging a scandal was the quickest and least expensive path, provided Roy's situation could be perfectly resolved. She planned to first present herself to the public as someone who had been unjustly accused, allowing everyone to "enjoy the show." Then, once everything came to light, the public could have another round of amusement.

This back and forth would boost her fame, and it would apply to Roy as well. Even though he hadn't come to the East with her, through this event, more people in the East would know him than if he had come for promotional activities.

Most importantly, he would be seen as the victim. People tended to sympathize with the underdog, and Roy being "wronged" like this would make him a pitiable figure in the eyes of the public. The sympathy would be overwhelming.

She didn't share these thoughts with Demi, believing that she would figure it out on her own in due time. Demi, the blonde secretary, wasn't just a decorative role like when she had first met her. She was gradually becoming a true secretary!

After carefully selecting a few interviews from a pile of invitations, Laila quickly scheduled the interview times with the help of her staff. However, she didn't plan to appear in person; instead, she designated Demi to represent her and answer the interviews.

Even though Roy and she weren't truly in a romantic relationship, she would still feel uncomfortable when asked about cheating. Anyway, she could guess what topics the reporters would be interested in. She had already prepared the potential questions and answers, which she handed over to Demi to memorize. She couldn't be bothered with the rest.

When facing questions from the Eastern media, Demi didn't display any signs of nervousness or hesitation. She had occasionally acted as Laila's spokesperson in the United States, so she was accustomed to dealing with the media. This pleased Laila, who was hiding in her room pretending to be out of commission.

When asked about Roy's cheating, Demi sternly criticized such a "despicable act done for fame."

"There's a saying that facts speak louder than words. I believe the truth of the matter will be uncovered soon. When that happens, we will reserve the right to pursue legal action and not tolerate this rogue behavior!"

Waves of reporters came and went, and Demi dismissed them with nearly identical responses. What surprised her was that 99% of the questions asked by reporters had already been answered by her boss. It was quite incredible. How did her boss know what questions the reporters would ask?

"It's simple, practice makes perfect," Laila replied casually after Demi inquired.

She had said the second part in Chinese, and although Demi had learned some basic phrases, she couldn't understand the ancient idioms. She could only blink her eyes and look at Laila in confusion.

Laila didn't feel like explaining further. With more experience came more knowledge. In her previous life, she had plenty of experience handling the media and knew what the public liked. Guessing the questions reporters would ask was not a challenge for her.

Due to Roy's situation, Laila stayed indoors all day. She finally breathed a sigh of relief the next morning after receiving a call from Louise, who informed her that everything had been successfully suppressed.

"What should we do next?" Louise didn't think that the woman named Keira would give up so easily. She was also worried that Keira might still have some heavier evidence up her sleeve.

"The rest doesn't require our intervention; there will be volunteers to help." Laila smiled faintly. "Everything has already been arranged; just relax."

With the boss's assurance, Louise didn't press further and ended the conversation after discussing a few matters related to the company.

However, she never expected that the "volunteers" would turn out to be a much more powerful group than the employees of the company - the reporters!

Yes, it was the reporters. Those ever-inquisitive journalists who wanted to uncover the details of the Keira and Roy incident were relentless in their pursuit.

"They usually meet where?" "What do they wear when they meet?" "How do they communicate with each other?" "What mode of transportation do they use when they meet?"

In the reporters' eyes, any details related to the Keira and Roy incident were scrutinized and analyzed with a magnifying glass. They believed that the situation couldn't be that simple, and there must be more to it!

Why did the New York Post reporter, who had clearly seen that Roy had no bruises on his back, still not believe him? It was because he had obtained his leads directly from Keira. To obtain these details, he had paid a significant sum of money to her. That woman had sworn that the information she provided was absolutely true, and when he made the payment, he only paid a portion of it, withholding the rest until her information was proven correct.

If Keira wasn't mentally unstable, she definitely wouldn't lie to him. Her eyes had gleamed when she heard the price he was willing to pay. So, even if she was money-hungry, she wouldn't deceive him just for the remaining payment.

Now that Laila had given her response on television, it seemed that Keira's information was no longer reliable. Not only had she failed to handle the situation well, but she had also given Roy an excuse to escape. The New York Post reporter felt wronged. He knew that when he returned to the newspaper, he would likely face criticism from his superiors. The feud between the Murdochs and the Morans meant that those below had to work diligently to serve their bosses.

But what had he done? He had inadvertently helped the "enemy" clear his name! Was this going to lead to his resignation?
