"Sorry," Roy said in frustration, lowering his head. He could deceive the people below with his acting skills, but not the woman in front of him. It wasn't because his acting skills weren't good enough, but because, in her position, she must have already known the truth.
Sure enough.
"Laila has already called me with the details. I saw what you said to the journalists on the news just now. You did well, and even I would believe that the person in the photos isn't you. But don't get too comfortable just because of that. According to the information I received, FOX has already located the woman in the photos, and if all goes as planned, they will broadcast a live interview with her tonight."
Damn Keira! Roy gritted his teeth. If she dared to appear in front of him, he would definitely make her regret it!
"What? Do you want to do something to her?" Louise could tell what he was thinking just by looking at his expression. "Yes, I'd like to give her a good beating too, but what after that? Do you think the public will still believe you're innocent?"
True, if there were no media exposure between the two of you, why get so worked up?
Roy was not oblivious to this fact, but the pent-up frustration he had been holding inside, unable to release it in any other way, was driving him crazy.
Seeing him remain silent with his head down for a while, Louise walked over and patted his shoulder. "You should be happy; at least Laila hasn't given up on you. That means she cares about you."
Roy gave a bitter smile. She cared, but it wasn't the kind of caring he wanted.
"Go on, just act like usual. Don't think too much about it. Trust that Laila will handle everything." Louise comforted him, but even she wasn't very sure about how this would ultimately turn out.
Roy walked out of the office, and as soon as he saw someone outside, he immediately put on a relaxed expression. However, when he recognized the person, his face fell.
"Hey, buddy, heard you've got yourself a new girlfriend?" Robert jr slung his arm around Roy's shoulder, smiling carefree.
"Enough, I'm going crazy," Roy knew that hiding the truth from this friend was futile. Robert jr was also an actor, a famous one at that, and perhaps no one could deceive him with acting.
Robert jr playfully led him to the break room and then mysteriously pulled something wrapped in a handkerchief from his pocket. "Want to give it a try?"
"What is it?" Roy's expression changed. "Robert, you're not going to..."
"What are you thinking?" Robert jr slapped him on the side and unwrapped the handkerchief to reveal a delicate invitation card. "This party is not bad, and there are plenty of beautiful women. It's guaranteed to be trouble-free. Many people go there for some fun."
"Not interested," Roy immediately understood what he was talking about. "I'm already hounded by the media. What do you think will happen if they catch me at a place like that?"
Robert jr looked at him sympathetically. "Your boss will tear you apart."
He didn't know how to deal with the new boss of the company except to keep his distance. Maybe it was because of the shadow left behind from before, but every time he saw Laila, he couldn't help but think of his father and lose his temper. He did not doubt that if anything happened to him, that woman would go to his father, complain, and then watch with a smile as his father cut him into pieces.
Roy shook off his hand with a lack of interest. "I'm going to practice." Perhaps channeling all his energy into training was the only way to forget his current troubles.
Louise's information was always accurate. On that day, FOX television had already advertised that they would be live broadcasting an interview with the woman at the center of Roy's cheating scandal.
This topic could be considered the most popular and highly anticipated subject in the world right now. On one hand, Roy had gained worldwide fame with his Super Bowl performance, and on the other, Laila herself was a highly discussed figure. Add to that the fact that they were both extraordinarily attractive and had recently been the subject of media speculation about their fairy-tale romance. With all these factors combined, it was a day of nationwide celebration.
It could be imagined how many viewers were eagerly waiting in front of their televisions when the FOX program began, excited to watch the gossip unfold. Not to mention Roy, who sat in front of the TV with a furrowed brow.
Keira had been invited to "The O'Reilly Factor." The host, Aurelie, had previously invited Laila and Cooper to sit together as witnesses for their bet.
However, because O'Reilly was associated with FOX, and FOX's owner, Murdoch, was an old rival of the Morans, there was no way they would hear anything good about the Morans from them. Didn't they immediately seek out Keira after Roy's scandal broke out?
It was safe to say that there was no one more eager to see the Morans humiliated than they were.
When the program began, Keira appeared on the screens of the viewers. Today, she wore relatively plain clothes, seemingly trying to prove that she wasn't the promiscuous woman the outside world was discussing. Even her makeup was lighter than in the photos, and she no longer appeared as sensual and provocative but rather like a proper lady.
However, her attempt to portray herself as a proper lady made the audience laugh. Who didn't know that Laila was a true socialite? Every time she appeared in public, she exuded the grace and elegance of a high-society lady, and that was widely recognized throughout the United States.
Now that Keira was trying to mimic that image, it backfired, making some people start to doubt if things were really as she described. After all, in comparison to her, Laila was always the better choice, and Roy didn't seem foolish enough to give up a gem for a piece of trash.
Unfortunately, she seemed completely oblivious to this fact as she continued to recall the "little secrets" between her and Roy under the host's questioning.
"I haven't known Roy for very long, but we fell in love at first sight. The first time I saw him, I knew I had fallen in love. But he had to hide our relationship."
"Why did he have to hide it?" O'Reilly accurately seized the key point.
"Of course, it's because of Director Moran. She's rich and powerful, and if she found out that we were in love, she would definitely hide him away! Who doesn't know about the Moran Group behind her? If they wanted to silence him, they could just say the word!" Keira's expression was very sad as if she was lamenting the unfair treatment her lover had received.
O'Reilly cooperatively wore a sympathetic expression. "Then why did you choose to make it public now?"
Exactly! Why choose to make it public now? The viewers in front of the television also had the same question. If you knew that your loved one might be silenced and lose all his opportunities and shine if you revealed your love, why would you choose to let him lose everything? This simply didn't make sense, did it?
