Chapter 289 - Chapter 289 - The Reason

"BOSS, don't get angry just yet. Let me inquire about the details," said Attorney Walton. This was the third time he had been called to handle Roy's affairs, so he was quite relaxed and familiar with the situation. Compared to the major cases he had dealt with in the past, getting into a fight was quite simple. Unless someone had died, he could quickly get Roy out.

Laila nodded with a grim expression. "Go and find out what's happening, and let me know immediately if there are any issues."

"OK."

The lawyer acknowledged and walked confidently inside.

As Laila and Demi waited, a figure appeared before them.

"Mr. Downey?" Laila noticed the person in front of her hadn't left and realized it was Robert Downey Jr.'s father, Mr. Downey, whom she had met once before.

"Miss Moran," Mr. Downey said with a wry smile as he sat down beside her. "Meeting under these circumstances is quite awkward, to say the least."

He seemed like a witty old man, even in such a situation, he didn't forget to humor himself.

Seeing him here, Laila quickly deduced that he was facing the same trouble as her. Thinking about the even more troublesome Robert Downey Jr., she suddenly felt a bizarre sense of relief that Roy wasn't so bad after all. Of course, she couldn't say that out loud.

"Why are you here?" she asked.

Mr. Downey looked at her and sighed. "It seems you don't know what's happened."

"Yes, I just received a notification and am waiting for news from the lawyer."

Mr. Downey continued, "This time, I have to thank you."

"Huh?" Laila was puzzled. Thank them for what? Did they come to the police station for a day trip?

"Actually..." Mr. Downey was about to explain when Roy's voice came from behind.

"It's nothing. I was too impulsive," Roy walked up to Laila and lowered his head. "I'm sorry for worrying you again."

Laila stood up from her chair, her expression dark as she used her fingers to lift his lowered head and carefully examined him from left to right.

Roy cleared his throat, somewhat embarrassed, and pushed her hand away. "I protected my face this time, so don't worry. I didn't get hurt at all."

Laila didn't find any injuries, and she was somewhat satisfied. At least he had taken her words to heart. But she couldn't praise him too much; otherwise, he might think that as long as he protected his face, he could get into fights freely!

"What exactly happened?" Laila turned to the lawyer. From Walton's relaxed demeanor, it seemed there wasn't a major problem. However, being in a police station was still a big deal, and with reporters talking without restraint, it could become a significant issue. She needed to know the truth early to prepare an appropriate response.

Walton smiled and said, "Don't worry, it's not too serious." He briefly explained what he had just learned.

In simple terms, this incident was caused by Robert Downey Jr.

Since their last fight, both sides had tried to create a facade of being "good friends" in public and front of the media to explain the previous brawl as a dispute between friends. They even met a few times in prominent places under the watchful eye of the media.

Originally, after calming the situation, they should have each gone their separate ways. After all, the fight had been quite intense, leading them both to end up in the police station. However, it turned out that they became friends when they were "making friends" at a bar. Perhaps due to shared experiences, the two of them really did become friends. Although they didn't share everything, they occasionally hung out together, rode horses, and had a drink.

Roy was easygoing and had made many friends while working on several film sets in Hollywood over the years. His ability to make friends even impressed Laila. After all, hadn't he managed to introduce Leonardo, a rising young star, to the Victoria's Secret angel Gisele Bundchen?

Coincidentally, he and his friends went to a newly recommended bar and, while dancing on the dance floor, noticed Robert Downey Jr. and a few others stumbling toward the back door. The bar was dimly lit, but there was a light near the door, which allowed Roy to recognize the familiar face.

Having lived on the streets before, he knew that those who looked like troublemakers would lead Robert Downey Jr. into something shady. So he instructed his friend that if he didn't return in a while, they should call the police. Then he followed them outside.

As soon as he stepped out the back door, he heard the sounds of a scuffle. Robert Downey Jr. was fighting with four or five people. It was difficult for him to hold his own, especially with the damage he had sustained from the drug addiction. He was quickly overwhelmed and brought to the ground. One of them even had a syringe and appeared to be trying to inject him with something.

Roy didn't think twice and rushed in. He was able to use the combat skills he had honed under Laila's coach, and in the narrow alley, he engaged in a fight with the assailants. Just to protect his face, he endured several hits. After all, Laila had repeatedly told him not to get injured, and he didn't want to be scolded by her in front of the police.

In the end, it was thanks to the friend who had accompanied him and called the police that they managed to apprehend the group of people.

At this point in Walton's explanation, Mr. Downey rubbed his moist eyes and said, "The syringe contained a highly addictive new drug, which is very harmful to the body. Robert has had a history with such substances, and these people knew he had money, so they wanted to get him addicted to the new drug to make a fortune. Thanks to Roy, he avoided this disaster."

Finally, Laila understood the truth of the matter. She couldn't believe that they had ended up at the police station due to this reason. It was much better than she had imagined, and it was indeed a stroke of luck.

As for Robert Downey Jr., she felt that she shouldn't interfere too much in his life. The future, after all, was uncertain, and it was said that great responsibility came with great power. If she intervened and altered his life path, what would happen to Iron Man?

However, upon closer consideration, it seemed that his life had already been changed. In the history of the previous life, there didn't seem to be such an incident. According to the original historical trajectory, he would have been imprisoned this year due to drugs. She didn't know if his arrest was related to this incident, but one thing was clear: Roy's presence had already changed history.

What would the future hold?
