Mason was fired a week later for missing work in the same building and company he volunteered for. The company marked him missing and then the government marked him truant. His assets and property was collected a week later for redistribution. Citizens who are marked truant need to apply for a new job within 5 days to not be swept out of the community. The local government had the system in place in hopes that everyone would be too busy working for food that it would keep dissidence low and morale moderate.
It was a year later when a technician found the **extra** cryogenic pod being used by an undocumented individual. The tech looked up the serial number to the pod and found it was originally used for the first volunteer, but they were scheduled to leave the pod 11 months prior. The pod was overdue for maintenance, and a chance of death caused from equipment failure is likely within the next year. New technology always have bugs.
The facility alarms went off at this moment, and this technician is the second one who died shortly after looking at the pod.
6 months later, a total of 18 months frozen, an apprentice technician was told to go to this closet looking for an ID fluid for the 10Ton calculator. He didn't know the other technicians were pranking him by calling him an idiot (ID10T on calculator). He saw the random cryogenic pod when it started to beep and wondered why it was here. He pulled out his handheld and looked it up. The two previous technicians who viewed this data are dead. He started to panic, thinking he found a secret he needed to pretend he didn't see. This pod was way behind on maintenance now, and was already experiencing a life support failure. Then he theorized that this man then sneaked into this pod not on the tracker, which is used to keep track of the pods and maintenance. There is a chance that the person in the pod is a stow away. He decided that he would simply report the pod for investigation and simply mention his hypothesis of the stowaway. There is also a chance the person who put him in there wanted him dead. He did not want to be directly related.
An anonymous report landed in the task bin, and another team officially investigated. They discovered the information being accessed by 3 technicians, whom 2 of are dead. The investigator could guess who made the anonymous report, and he too felt it wasn't out of place considering what he found. He reached out to the technician who explained his thoughts. The investigator did some research and found that the man in the pod is a janitor who was previously marked missing. He did not find any details that he was the man who volunteered, and was a detail never linked to the person in the pod right now. He believed if someone wanted him to disappear, it was already accomplished with him probably never going to wake up from his coma. He knew he had a stowaway at this point, officially for the report. He didn't know who he had offended, but he is going to make sure to send him to the government as a trespasser.
Mason was in a coma at the moment due to the life support failure of the pod itself skipping maintenance. He was brought to the hospital where he was then reported to the authorities from the hospital reporting a previous missing person, from a long time ago, found at the research facility trespassing.
A government investigator looked over the paperwork and found that this missing person just vanished previously, and now was found and brought to the hospital. The paperwork says he was previously a janitor, and he just vanished one day. Considering he hasn't been seen in over 18 months then is found in a coma and brought to a hospital; this is strange enough for a physical investigation to double check the case report. The government investigator came to the same conclusion that the man needed to be disposed of and brought no gain for the government if he survived. Further on that note, there was not an unlimited amount of resources for patients who were in comas.
He was scheduled to be shuttled off in his coma state right into the non-safe region. His life and death while in his coma state would be his own and not related to the government in any way.
