Chapter 20 - The Vampire And The Wolf

"We're here for the golden pearl." I said.

"Yeah, now hand it over!" demanded Moira.

"So, you've broken into my home, and you want me to hand something over to you!?" exclaimed the strange looking man.

"Pretty much, yeah." answered Moira.

"Either you're very brave or very stupid." he said.

"Whatever," said Arianna, "give it up if you don't want to get hurt."

"Put your swords down," the man instructed, "I have no interest in fighting."

"But… aren't you evil?" asked Moira.

"I just live here." the man answered, "How does that make me evil?"

"B-But.. but…" started Moira.

"So you're not going to kill us?" I asked.

"There is something like a pearl in the back room." the man answered, "But I've kept it locked because of the beast in there."

"And you left it alone?" responded Arianna.

"Well, yeah." he said, "That thing's too dangerous… even for me."

"What if we get it for you?" I suggested.

"Heh," the man responded, "do you really think you can do that?"

"We won't know until we try." said Arianna.

"You three," he said, "who are you?"

"Oh, uh, I'm Ken… and adventurer, and this parasite floating next to me is Moira." I answered.

"P-Parasite!?" responded Moira.

"And I'm Arianna," responded the knight next to me, "I am a knight."

"My name is Bruce," the man in the chair said, "I am a vampire."

"V-Vampire!?" exclaimed Moira, "Then you really are evil!"

"How does being a vampire making me evil?" asked Bruce.

"I kinda figured that was the case with the sharp teeth and all." I said.

"If you really think you can do it," said Bruce, getting up off of his chair, "Then I will unlock the room for you."

The strange-looking man walked over to the door that was guarding the pearl, pulled a key out of his pocket, and unlocked it.

"Now I'm just going to sit." he said, walking back to his chair.

"That's all?" said Moira.

"My talent is sitting." replied the vampire.

"Okay then…" I said, "Um, let's go."

The girls followed me into the other room. When inside, the door ended up closing behind us. Before we knew it, there was a large wolf right in front of us. The large creature started slowly walking toward us while growling, so Arianna and I got out our swords and started running toward it. After that, the wolf started running toward the two of us.

I swung my sword and it missed. Arianna's sword also missed. The dog tried to bite my leg, but luckily, I got away. The two of us kept swinging and missing. The dog kept trying to bite, and continued to miss. No matter how many times we swung our swords, we kept missing.

"Um," said Moira, "I don't think you're hitting it."

"We know that!" exclaimed Arianna.

There were more swings and more misses.

"What should we do?" asked Moira.

"You're not really helping by just floating there." I said.

"Hey… I'm using… my brain power," the floating girl replied, "That takes a lot of work!"

I was so focused on trying to hit the dog that I didn't see Arianna grab Moira.

"Wh-What are you doing!?" exclaimed Moira.

Arianna then threw Moira in the direction of the wolf which then started running toward her. While the creature had its back to me, I managed to land a hit on its back. It let out a yelp and turned around to face me. When it did that, Arianna sliced its back. The wolf let out another yelp and fell to the ground. The two of us sliced it up until it could no longer be recognized as a wolf.

"Why did you do that!?" exclaimed Moira.

"I was trying to make you be useful." replied Arianna.

"But what if the dog ate me!?" asked Moira.

"We would always remember you-" I said.

"Oh, come on!" she said, "That's not funny anymore!"

"A-Anyways," I said, "We need to get the pearl."

"Oh, you mean this thing?" asked Moira, holding up a golden pearl.

"Th-That's it." said Arianna, "Where did you find it?"

"I find it on the ground after you threw me." answered Moira.

"I… see." responded Arianna.

We all went to the door we came in from.

"It's shut." said Moira.

"Most doors can be unlocked from the inside," I said, unlocking the door, "were you worried?"

"Um… no." replied Moira.

"That's not what your face is telling me." commented Arianna.

"Shut up!" responded Moira.

After walking out of the room, Bruce got up off of his chair.

"So, you've found what you are looking for?" he said.

"Sure have." I said.

"Hmmm," he said, "I'm getting kind of bored just sitting around."

"And?" I replied.

"Would you mind if I went with you?" he asked.

"I don't know," I said, "we'll probably be in the sun a lot."

"That won't be a problem," said Bruce, shaking his head, "I have maxed out my sun resistance."

"That's a skill you can get?" I replied.

"It is most useful for vampires," he said, "since without it, sunlight will kill them. However, for humans, it just lowers their chance of sunburn."

"Well?" I said.

"I don't really care." said Arianna.

"It's fine." said Moira.

"Okay," I said, "let's leave the dungeon and look for the next pearl."
