"How ironic. Here I thought it would take a week to settle all my belongings so I tacitly agreed in leaving after a couple of weeks. Yet it didn't even take me half an hour to finish what I set out to do." I shook my head in derision and sat down on my study. I threw my head back and stared blankly at the ceiling, totally lacking grace expected of a noble young lady.
Meh. Who cares for etiquette? I'm all alone anyway.
I wanted to feel bitter at this point but it seems like every single trace of that emotion has gone up and vanished. Even disappointment isn't possible.
I just feel empty.
Yeah. I'll just let the two weeks pass by just as how it was in the past. I'll diminish my presence even more until it vanishes in this place completely.
Wilhelm promptly delivered the map and travelogues that I requested. And when I had it in my hands, every other thought vanished.
Uh-huh. The place I am moving into is the most crucial right now. What should be my criteria in choosing the place? Hmm.
First, it has to be far. Far enough that only fixed spatial gates available only to select people but not easily utilized are available and the only other choice is to travel the route itself.
Second, it has to be a city with reliable safety measures. The countryside is a little too secluded. I still want to roam around and explore. And a peaceful city would make that possible and enjoyable.
Third, it has to be a place where Eashen people are present. My lineage now has Eashen roots, it is a perfect time for me to reconnect with that forgotten heritage. Aside from the fact that I was formerly from Country Z, a place similar to Eashen countries.
I spread open the map and traced the lines that marked the different territories in this world. The Empire of Resse was humongous. And when I say that, I mean it. Honestly, the founding fathers of this empire were admirable seeing that they were able to conquer so much land and maintain sovereignty over it for thousands of years. No wonder the female lead tried her hardest to put her brother on the throne.
Though the credit to this firm territorial power goes to the harmony between the imperial family and the seven protector houses. If you ask me though, it isn't harmony at all but a fragile balance. After all, the very source of the succession struggle is the Sable Dukedom, the closest and most powerful house after the imperial family. Can't blame them though, who would be able to resist the temptation of a legitimate claim to the throne of the only empire in the whole of Thiar? Even I am tempted.
These imperial intricacies are beyond me though. Since, I was about to run away. I moved my eyes to a discreet corner of the map. The outline of the landmass wasn't complete so most people would just ignore it. But it caught my eye. Partly because it seemed neglected.
Talk about being kindred spirits with a landmass. Snicker.jpg.
Mostly because it was located in the eastern direction. It conformed to all of my prerequisites. It was absurdly far. Judging from the geographical distance, using personal spatial gates were close to impossible unless one has infinite energy reserves. So only fixed ones are possible. That satisfies my number one and number three criterions.
As for the second one, I browsed the travelogues that the library had about that kingdom. A few paragraphs in and I was sold.
I finally decided on the place.
The Kingdom of Mirus.
According to the records, Mirus is an old kingdom. Even older than Resse itself. There were no exact records of when it was founded but it was tacitly agreed that Mirus was as old as Thiar itself. Compared to other royalties, there was limited information about the rulers of this kingdom. There was only their monickers and the fact that they were orphans. Most people would lose interest immediately due to the lack of information.
But if one thinks deeply enough, this kind of situation is quite strange. It's either someone powerful erased all traces of their identities or it was that the citizens of the country itself took the initiative to protect their rulers' information.
Maybe it was even a case of both. Since, there were rumors that the rulers of the country had reached the Divine stage. And that this was the reason no other countries tried to encroach in its territory til this time. No sane king would want four Divine Magi to wreak havoc to his country despite the countless benefits. That's just plain suicidal.
You didn't read it wrong, dear readers. They have four rulers. That is another one of Mirus' unique characteristics. Don't ask me why. I wouldn't know. Maybe it was just merely referenced to that certain series with the lion and the wardrobe. Beats me how the author's mind works. Send razors to her if you have complaints.
"It's settled then. I'll go to Mirus. And I won't take the gates even if grandpa is capable of getting me access. That would take the adventure away. I'll travel the entire route myself. Anyhow, I'm already a Grand Magister. And I've had survival experiences back in the Special Forces. It would be utterly embarrassing if I fail in this journey."
I said to myself excitedly. I couldn't wait until the fortnight ends. I couldn't wait for my new life to start.
I wonder what Mirus would welcome me with.
