Eve took a deep breath and cradled Victor's face in her hands. She spoke the words for her own calm, but it did little to quell her anxiety. "The system update should go smoother this time. Just relax and try to not think about anything."
When Eve had blocked the parts of Victor's core that allowed him to control other minds with a thought, she made a mistake that almost caused his death. This time Victor couldn't break her concentration with his dirty dreams.
Eve's enhanced core allowed her to transfer necessary data much faster and therefore with fewer complications, too. Not to mention that she knew for sure this time what exactly to install, so no botched attempts. The backup was safely stored in her core's memory.
And still she worried, just like then. Some things just never went away.
