Faye jumped to the side as the gangly man rushed forward. His blade was swung wide and she easily dodged it. She stepped into his space, causing him to pulled back. His eyes widened as she thrust her sword forward.
Unfortunately, he didn't seem to have the same ability as Faye and he found himself with a hole in his gut.
The man cried out as Faye pulled her sword from his stomach. He fell forward.
She turned toward the other man and started making her way toward him. The man smiled and shook his head at her. "You shouldn't turn your back on an opponent, love."
Faye felt the hairs on the back of her neck raise as she felt the presence behind her suddenly rise up. She stepped to the side, but was unable to avoid the entire blow. The cut was shallow, though, barely causing her to bleed. She heard a chuckle and turned to find the man wielding the knife staring at her wound. His licked the blade as his eyes met hers.
"Ew..."
Faye stepped forward again, swinging her blade. The man used his dagger to redirect the attack, causing him no injury. Although the man moved really well, and was trying to intimidate her, she knew he probably couldn't fight for long with that first attack. She decided to try to take him out quickly so she could then deal with the other fucker.
She steeled herself and swung her sword once again, using the momentum of his redirect.
This time, she felt her blade find flesh. As she swiped her sword through his stomach, the man's eyes widened. She stared at her as he dropped down to his knees. Not wanting to make the same mistake as last time, Faye kicked his dagger away.
Finally, she turned toward the other man. The man's smile had frozen in place as his hand must had loosened on the boys hair. The boy, feeling the grip on his head loosen, struggled to get away. He broke from and began sprinting down the alley, away from the man. Seeing his perfectly good hostage getting away, the man tried to re-grapple the young boy.
Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful. He hurriedly turned back to day who'd begun approaching him. She glared as she stepped closer. As she closed in one him the man started screaming.
"Wai-wha- mu-murderer! There was a mur-"
His words were cut short as Faye slammed her fist into his jaw.
"He's not dead stupid, but he will be if you don't get him some fucking help."
Faye had never crossed the line of killing a human.
She gave a few more punches to the man, before shoving him toward his unconscious friend.
"Get him some help."
Faye spat out the words as she turned to leave the alley the opposite way she came.
As she turned the corner, her adrenaline that was keeping her anxiety and fear away disappeared.
She leaned against the stone wall as she took heavy breaths. She almost killed that man. She almost KILLED THAT MAN! If she hadn't caught herself in time, if she hadn't pulled her blade at the last minute, that man would have been long dead.
As her heart beat began to quiet down, she heard some moves meant down the alleyway. She watched as the conscious man was supporting the other, making their way out of the alley. They turned the opposite direction of Faye, whether that was on purpose or not was unknown.
Faye watched the two get further from her before turning once again out of sight.
She hurried her head in her hands.
"What the fuck am I even doing?"
Faye decided to head back to the inn afterwards. She didn't want to get herself in any more trouble and decided to retire early.
She lay atop the bed staring up at the cracked and stained ceiling. The patrons down below were still loud and raucous. She didn't think that would be changing any time soon. They seemed the type to stay up pretty late and not care who they were bothering while doing it.
She definitely needed to find another place to stay.
She slowly made a list in her head if what she needed to get down in town.
She needed to find out about the goddess of fate. She needed to find one of her temples and...pay tribute? Give a donation? She wasn't really sure what to do, but she wanted to at least say thanks for bringing her back...
Next, she needed to learn about the history of the current world, she wanted to learn about what happened to Jolis. She wanted to know what happened to her family....
She also needed to find the adventurers hall and find out about her class. That was one of the first things she should do, since she might be able to get more information from the hall's library if she joins it as an adventurer. So, the best thing to focus on currently, was finding the hall and joining it. That way, she could find out more about her class, and accept jobs to increase her purse load, and she could research the history of the continent AND the goddess of fate through the halls libraries. It was the logical next step.
With her thoughts organized and darkness falling outside, Faye finally resigned herself to her restless sleep. The shouts and laughter from below didn't seem to subside and in fact became louder as the night wore on.
