Chapter 39 - Botan -

Botan was having the time of his life. With his katana bloodied by whatever unfortunate creature came across his path, he had already slain many, arguably, weak creatures that didn't even try to resist him in any meaningful way such as unnaturally big and very slowly creeping moulds which looked so disgusting that not even Hachi wanted to dip his nose into their corpses, his enthusiasm for the dungeon life grew at a steady pace. And after slaying, his first opponent that dared actually attacking him, a fox, with a swift swing of his trusty blade, he even levelled up! The gloomy voice announced his progress and blessed him with slightly higher stats, which wasn't much except for an increase in HP.

Doors presented no problem to him as he kicked them down they crashed open and sometimes shattered from the force of his blows, and soon he found a stairway that led him further down into Dlvl:2. By this time he started feeling hungry but had yet to find anything reasonable to eat. It mattered not, he had more important things to do such as improving his skill in longsword. He had been notified that he could upgrade it and eagerly took the opportunity. His deadliness had increased again, but the foes the dungeon threw at him had become more formidable as well as he encountered newts and goblins. Cheeky little buggers they were, throwing their pitiful daggers at him with feeble strength. But they made for good sword practise and the first one even had the decency to gift him his helmet. Which he promptly put on. Weirdly his top knot fit inside the orcish skull cap perfectly. Apparently it was one size fits all in this world which was fine by him.

The hunger problem became more and more urgent but still he found nothing that resembled food. Eventually he took heart and tried eating one of the goblins he had so mercifully put to rest, only to find that it tasted awful and seemed to have given him food poisoning as he was helpfully reminded by the friendly but ominous voice in his head;

[Ulch - that meat was tainted! You feel deathly sick. (It must have died too long ago to be safe to eat.)],

And it made him throw up on an almost empty stomach. This couldn't be it. Death was drawing closer with every passing second. No solution to his problem was in sight, and so he sat down and prayed, he found that option in a menu when he improved his sword skill, and, to his surprise, praying seemed to be a super effective method of dealing with bullshit!

[You begin praying to Amaterasu Omikami. You are surrounded by a shimmering light. You finish your prayer. You feel that Amaterasu Omikami is pleased. You feel better.]

'Huy close one ... now where do I get some food?' He mumbled to himself and looked at Hachi.

[You kick Hachi. You dishonourably attack the innocent! Hachi yelps! You kill poor Hachi! You hear the rumble of distant thunder...]

'Sorry Bud, we haven't been friends that long, but I appreciate what you are doing here for me'

And then he ate poor Hachi's remains well knowing that it might not have been the wisest of decisions he had made today.
