It took us several hours of walking to get to a branch of one of the smaller gangs in our general area. We decided to start small and do a couple jobs for some easy money and earn us a bit of a reputation while we're at it.
On our way there we decided to do a bit of digging and about 3/4 the way through our journey it seemed someone was following us. Most unfortunately they kept themselves hidden well enough that we couldn't discern who was who in the never ending river of people.
Surprisingly enough we were met with building that was actually well kept compared to some of the surrounding places. There were two double doors made out of a shaded glass. At each side was a bouncer, one built much bigger than the other.
"What do you want?" Asked the one on the right.
"We're hear to see whoever's in charge here."
They froze for a second before looking at each other to see if what they heard was true. The big one burst into laughter and slapped his knee like someone had told a really funny joke.
"I thought you were just some dumb kids coming to beg fer yer brother or sister back but it turns out you're just delusional." He said in between breaths
"Mentally unstable yes, delusional well that's debatable." Pai retorted
"Oi who're you calling unstable!"
"You darling, you are quite unstable. Like a bomb that's ready to explode at any moment. It's amazing it hasn't already happened already." You could see a shiver run through her body and no one there was left feeling right after that exchange.
"Why you little-"
"Remember why we're here."
"Ah...yes right. Now, if you would so kindly bring us to your leader we can get out of each other's hair and hopefully not have to see one another again. Better hurry, father doesn't like waiting for too long." I said
When he realized we were serious he straightened up.
"leave, before something less than desirable happens to the four of you." It was the man on the left who spoke this time.
"Hm~? So you've made your decision?"
"leave."
"Honey I'm sure that father of yours isn't all that happy having his baby girl being talked down to like that and personally I don't like it either-"
"I said LEAVE."
"Have as much fun as you want dear. Just make sure you don't kill them ok?"
"Yes mom~"
The guy on the right retrieved a knife from his pocket and the blade flicked out soon after.
"Hm~? Is that a switchblade~? I've seen them in movies a couple times and always wanted one. Never thought I'd get to see one up close."
"Seems she's really gone delusional." I heard him utter under his breath
"You know when you mutter under your breath the people around you aren't supposed to be able to hear you."
I carefully removed fathers lab coat and gave it to Pai. After all I didn't want to rip it or lose father. I raised both my arms up into a defensive position and looked him right in the face.
Even if I wasn't trained in anything I at least knew how to block and throw a proper punch. Though under these circumstances blocking wouldn't be the smartest thing to do when the opponent has a knife.
"Make sure to not kill her, I'm sure that he would like to have a bit of fun with her before she's dead. Oh and try not to scratch the face." Said the other guy while still standing there guarding the door like it was a just another day.
"Yeah, yeah I got it." Responded the one who would be first to go. I took one look back to see my Pai happily standing there with a child in each hand. [1]
Suddenly I felt something akin to a small vehicle hitting me. Once again I was caught off guard at how much the world and people had changed.
I raised myself off the ground and looked to him. I was intrigued by this person and his ability to overcome a barrier not seen surpassed on a daily basis. I couldn't help but want to know more.
"Limiter override 10: code bunbun"
"What did you say?" Asked the man
"Honey, be careful I don't want to start too much trouble here"
"I ASKED what you said."
"Don't worry I'll keep our promise"
Out of the corner of my eye I caught something move and suddenly I felt a familiar yet unwanted feeling. Pain, something I considered "normal". I expected it. I grew used to it. Father made sure of it but I don't resent him for it. He brought me life and joy I never knew. However this was not the pain I knew. It was the pain I hated. The pain I loathed. The pain pointed at the ones I love. And I would eradicate it.
I look to the source of the pain to find a handle sticking out of my shoulder. It was black, a few inches long and about an inch thick. At the end there was a bit of a silver-ish color that led into my body. Taking my right hand I pull it out uncaringly; getting up to me feet while doing so.
It tore at my skin as a serrated blade reflected sunlight. I whip out the large handgun and fire 2 bullets into the leg of the guard that was previously standing to the left of the double doors.
He flinched at the impact but quickly recovered.
"So that's how it is."
Instead of going right through it ricocheted off and made a cut in the expensive looking pants he wore. Within was a metallic structure that mimicked a calf.
I couldn't help but grin a little. It was like I was living in a sci-fi movie.
Note: I don't quite know how much I like this chapter I might change up the wording a bit later but that's unlikely.
