Vincent pays at the register glancing once more at the lady he had seen in the aisle. He blinks a little expecting his eyes to have just been playing tricks on him but no, it really was there. A faint bruise along her jaw and another on her collar bone. Now any normal person would just go about their day thinking oh she probably fell but Vincent Garner was not like everyone else. He was a detective. Though it might sound tacky he can't help but get a bad feeling when looking at those bruises.
Caroline glances at him nervously from where she stands and hides behind her hair. He wants to ask her about them but would that be too forward? In the aisle when he had simply brushed past her she flinched away and that's when he saw it. She hurriedly leaves the store and he follows soon after but a few steps too late she's already in her car speeding off. Against his better judgement, Vincent just shakes his head and decides to let it go.
He makes his way to his new office once he reaches the station. He recently transferred in after being kicked off a high priority case. In other words, Vincent Garner has been promoted as his punishment. Being sent to a desk job, however, is practically the same as being demoted. He grumbles his greetings to his fellow officers and heads into his office...at least he now has an office right? An office he didn't want in the first place.
I mean did they really have to send me to an entirely different state? He kicks the box in front of him, momentarily forgetting about his precious babies sitting inside. "Oh no my angels I'm sorry daddy didn't mean that!" He gushes over his plants and pulls them out of the box setting them by the window.
Tired from all the unpacking he sits at his desk and looks through his old documents deciding what is important and what can be shredded. While shredding he gets lost in thought still thinking of the strange woman from the grocery store. Their eyes had only locked for a second but in them, he saw sorrow. Still thinking of the woman and her haunting eyes he accidentally knicks his finger on the shredder. "Holy mother of-!" he silently screams. "No use in dwelling on it. I'll probably never see her again..." he says out loud to no one in particular. He watches his pinky slowly leak blood; his thoughts once again go back to the woman. I'm sure it was just an accident...right? Unable to convince himself he ends up thinking about her for the rest of the day.
What could be the story behind those bruises...
