"Thanks to me, you also already have a land grant. Most systems do not have access to this feature until much higher levels. You took the body of the man you killed there earlier. If you close your eyes and think land grant you will be teleported there. If you kill a creature or person with a land grant you will gain access to their land, and if you desire it to, it will grow beside your own. If you prefer to keep it separate, you can do that as well. In your land grant you can bring wildlife or grow crops to feed the creatures you have entered contracts with. You can also bring them to your land grant to live, or merely hide them there for a great many reasons. It is your world. Only you and now Bear can bring things in or remove things from there. You can give others access as well if desired. You can be killed there but it is much more difficult. You and your familiar will gain a 100% boost to all stats in your land grant. Why don't you try to go to your land grant now?"
Senani did as he was told. He closed his eyes and thought the phrase land grant. When he opened his eyes, he and Bear were in a small 1-acre plot of land. At present it was a grass land. The only thing in the grass was the dead body of the man he had moved there.
Senani went to examine the body. The man had a sword in his hand. Senani looked at the sword and noticed his system added an item grade and status section to his field of vision. This sword was showing as a common item. He then removed the sword and sheath, set them to the side and continued to loot the dead man. Aside from the sword he found a pair of leather pants, with a defense of 1, a leather belt and 20 bronze coins. He put on the leather pants and left the sword. Senani did not know how to use one, so in his hands it was less useful than the knife. The rest of the man's clothing was useless so Senani left it on the corpse. He realized that there was truly nothing else to do in his land grant. With that realization, he thought of the cave he was in, and when he opened his eyes, he and Bear were both back in the cave.
Once back in the cave, a notification flashed before Senani's eyes. It said "Quest Received. Eliminate the men who attacked you. 1/5 eliminated. Quest reward, 1 acre of land grant." Senani decided it was time to put an end to the rest of the people that came to his home to attack him. After all, according to his system Bear could not die unless he did, and he knew these woods better than anyone.
Senani cautiously left the cave with bear stalking through the woods looking for the men who attacked his home. With the passive skill Forest walking they were virtually undetectable in the dark. As they inched through the woods, Senani saw the glow from the tip of a cigarette nearby. He pulled out his hunting knife and inched towards the tree the man was leaning against. Moving slowly so as not to be seen. After what seemed like hours, he finally made it behind the man undetected. He put his hand over the man's mouth from behind and quickly swiped his knife across the man's throat. The quest updated. 2/5 eliminated. "Do you wish to store the body and all items it contains to your land grant?" Yes or No.
Senani choose Yes and they were off again. Stalking through the woods ever closer to the farmhouse. As he moved closer to his home, Senani began to smell smoke. He continued to move closer the newfound fear increasing the speed of his steps. When they arrived at the edge of the woods, Senani could clearly see the 3 remaining men standing beside his burning farmhouse. His fear had been realized. Everything he owned was in that house. The man with the torch was in the middle of the trio, he appeared to be the leader. Senani backed back into the woods to think about how to deal with the 3 men. He and Bear were outnumbered, and all three men had swords. The situation could easily become deadly.
After careful consideration, Senani decided to send Bear as close to the other side of the men as possible. Once she arrived, he telepathically told her to attack. She charged at the man on the left. Once Bear had their attention Senani ran behind them, aiming for the man on the right. Bear pounced and ripped out the man on the lefts throat, at the same time, Senani grabbed the man on the right and quickly slashed his throat. 3/5 eliminated. 4/5 eliminated. The remaining man attempted to run. He never expected to meet this kind of resistance from a lone farmer. He no longer had any allies, and he just saw 2 men die beside him in a matter of seconds. He feared he had no chance. He only made it 10 feet before Bear had him on the ground. He tried to stab Bear but with her on his back, but from the angle he was laying it was almost impossible. He did not manage to hit her with the flat of his sword. Senani stabbed through the back of the man's neck. The man made a slight gurgling noise before he remained silent. "The new notification said, 5/5 eliminated. Reward Granted." "Congratulations, you have reached level 1. You now have access to the active skill Death Bed Covenant.
Death Bed Covenant: This skill enables the one to create a Covenant with living beings that are on their Death Bed. Once the Covenant has been made, the person casting the skills HP will be lowered by 5, and the creature accepting the contract will be revived. If the being on their death bed accepts the Covenant, they will be unable to act against the individual the Covenant was created with. They will also be unable to break the Covenant or act against any instructions they are given from the Covenant Creator. They will however retain their free will in everything else."
"Do you wish to store the body and all items it contains to your land grant?" Yes or No. "Do you wish to remove the Bandit leader level 2 system stone? Yes or No?"
Senani choose Yes to both questions. He then touched each of the dead men and placed them in his land grant as well. He was looking forward to seeing what loot he had obtained from the dead men. Once all the bodies were dealt with and in the Land Grant, Rikki-Tiki began his Explanation on systems.
"Systems come in various grades and levels just as weapons do. They can be common, rare, unique, legendary, or artifact quality. I am currently common quality. The Bandit Leader stone you have obtained is also a common quality system. Systems have existed in all the worlds for centuries. No one knows where the stones came from. But most of the truly exceptional people contain one. The Covenant System is unique in that you can remove the System Stones from corpses and place them in others that you have created a Covenant with should you choose to. You can also absorb compatible stones to increase my capabilities and potentially absorb a random skill from the system you absorb. You may be able to find higher level systems in the graves of exceptional people as few systems can carefully remove them. However, be warned, some system types will have risks when contracted to you. For example, bandits are more likely to gain wanted levels and have negative interactions with other factions. This will cause you great trouble in the future. I would advise you to hold on to the stone you just received until you are ready to handle the side effects or find another use for it."
"If you have any other questions about systems, ask at any time. For now, I would advise you to touch a building or crop on your farm. You may be surprised by the outcome."
Senani took Rikki-Tiki's advice to heart. He walked over and touched the fence where his sheep were. "Do you wish to move the items, buildings, and creatures on the property you own to your land grant?" Yes or No.
Senani considered whether moving everything could harm anything. He decided it was worth finding out what it did, so he chose Yes. Immediately the fence, all his crops, his burning house, all his farm animals, and even the trees that were on his 2-acre farm disappeared. The only thing left on the land was a hole in the ground where the cellar of his home used to be.
Senani closed his eyes and thought Land Grant. He was instantly transported to his Land Grant with Bear. Senani gasped in amazement. His whole farm was here, and his farmhouse was still burning. He ran to the water hose and turned it on. He tried to put out the fire. He sprayed and sprayed for hours but it was no use. The fire had already engulfed the farmhouse. After many hours all he could do was watch as his home burned down, and he lost everything he had worked so hard for all these years. He eventually passed out from the exhaustion.
When Senani awoke, his house was completely burned down. He needed a bit of good news, so he decided it would be best to loot the bodies of the men he had killed before he attempted to see what was left in his home. On the 3 men he had killed he found 60 Bronze Coins, a pair of leather gloves, a leather helmet, and a pair of leather boots. He also removed all 3 swords and sheaths and placed them near the farmhouse after he equipped the armor. The armor gave a nice boost to his defense. He then went to the dead Bandit Leader and checked his corpse for gear. To his surprise, Rikki-Tiki notified him that the Bandit leaders' sword was uncommon quality, as was his leather chest piece. He also found 1 silver coin. Senani placed the sword and sheathe with the others and equipped the chest piece.
Senani was now ready to check on the condition of his farmhouse. He removed the charred wood from where his home used to be. Nothing was left useable on the first or second floor. Fortunately, once he had gotten the area cleaned off it appeared the stone floor was intact. This was the roof to his cellar. Senani carefully opened the trap door to his cellar and entered. After gently tapping the roof and walls with his hands, nothing fell. So, he hit the roof and walls again. Nothing fell and the room appeared to be sound. Senani found an empty shelf and moved the swords and sheaths to it. It would appear as though his cellar would be the beginnings of his armory.
A great many things had changed for Senani since he left the cave. He decided to check his character status.
Senani was amazed to see that Bear leveled up when he did. He then realized he would truly have a powerful ally by his side. He also realized he in essence no longer had a reason to stay. His farm would travel with him and he could teleport there anytime. He was free to travel anywhere he desired. Senani decided to take a nap with Bear and consider what to do next.
