Chapter 32 - Love is a Sports Car

"Bo, look!"

Miya and Bo stood in the middle of the sidewalk, traveling through downtown Hinansho. Miya's eyes lit up as she looked upon a gigantic, red mansion, roses and cherry blossoms surrounding it in its entirety. The building itself was traditional, and the architectural design was near flawless, it's environment adding to it's beauty.

Small, yellow lights fluttered about the garden, and Miya's eyes followed them intently, marveled by their whimsical movement. She pointed toward these lights as she continued to yell, pedestrians smiling at the adorable glee.

"What's that place, Bo?!"

Bo looked blankly toward the mansion, and as he looked, one of the lights stopped, changing its trajectory toward him. Bo spoke as it approached.

"That is the mansion of the Yakuza, otherwise known as the House of Rose. The property is known for its Warbeast inhabitants, docile ones like the ones you see before you..."

Bo extended his hand, and the light landed softly upon it, Miya leaning closely toward it as the light slowly dimmed, revealing a small pixie, small enough that it sat comfortably inside Bo's palm. It spoke, its voice sassy yet cute.

"Woah... Two rarities... A Logicus and a Southerner..."

Miya tried touching it, and the pixie giggled, pushing her finger away. Bo spoke as Miya continued to play with it, the Warbeast unaffected by her sleep spell.

"She is a fairylark, one of the most intelligent Warbeasts known to exist. They have the same cognitive abilities as humans, but they can change their body's size at will."

"Why isn't she wearing any clothes?"

The fairylark responded in Bo's stead, flying in front of Miya's face.

"Clothes my size don't come easy, sweety... Well, you two just caught my eye a bit. I'll be on my way."

The fairylark flew off, but as it flew, its eyes remained glued to them, her eyes straining to understand what she was seeing.

As Miya watched the fairlylark fly away, a large skid screeched behind them, and as they turned around, they were met by Kem and Sarah, Kem wearing shades and a tuxedo rather than his typical attire.

The mask continued to cover his mouth as he sat in the drivers seat of the black sports car, waving toward the two of them.

"Yo."

...

"Umm…why do you look so silly, Kem?"

Miya sat confused in the car as Bo looked outside the window, ignoring everything happening inside the vehicle. His hair was in pigtails, drooping down his shoulders as he focused on the road, trying to ignore the distractions inside the car.

"I--"

Sarah interrupted, a smile imprinted onto her face.

"He lost a bet."

She sat with a smug grin, seemingly replaying the event in her mind as Miya continued to question her, curious. They drove through downtown Hinansho, approaching a road that led up a hill outside the city limits. Miya's eyes directed toward the car's windows, same as Bo. As they exited the city's limits, Bo's attention suddenly turned toward Kem, the reason unknown to Miya.

"Where are we headed? I assumed you intended to bring Miya home..."

"We're holding a party at a friend's house. You should recognize him once we get the--"

Sarah reached over to Kem while he was driving and pulled his shades down, nearly revealing his eyes. He quickly pushed them back up, yelling in her direction as he tried to keep some attention onto the road. The car randomly veered from left to right, Kem struggling to regain control.

"You some kinda idiot or something?! I'm trying to drive, you whore!"

Sarah could only laugh, and Kem began muttering under his breath in spite. She was wheezing so loudly that Miya was surprised that she wasn't turning purple.

"Those pigtails... They look like handlebars!"

As Sarah laughed, Kem rested his head on his arm, his elbow on the edge of the window. He spoke to himself, and Miya continued looking outside the window, Hinansho city showing in it's entirety as they traversed the large mound.

"You annoy me to the point of near murderous intent..."

"You know you love me!"

Kem audibly snarled at her comment, and Bo continued to look out of the window while they rode. Kem yelled to the back of the car, snapping Miya out of her trance-like state.

"This place is kinda like a frat house. Only a few of us live outside of this house, but it's always awesome when we host a party. You'll love it, Miya."

Miya hesitated, sad that her attention had been diverted.

"O--ok.

"Don't be so shy like that. You'll have fun, I promise."

Miya thought for a second then turned toward Kem again.

"What did you two bet on?"

Sarah tried not to laugh at just the question.

"I'll tell the story because he'll leave stuff out."

Everyone listened intently.

...

"Get to the point already. Your voice is grating."

Kem angrily steered the car as the explanation ended, the story amusing Miya. Kem had lost a bet where if he were to stay awake for an entire class period, he didn't have to come to class, and Sarah would pass him, but the stakes against his favor permitted those in their class to style his hair for the school year.

Sarah continued to speak, relishing in her victory.

"Needless to say, he lost, and the girls in our class were going crazy over you with your mask off. They messed with you like a doll!"

Sarah began laughing again while Kem continued to drive, annoyed by her sense of humor. He spoke toward Miya, his attention still toward the road.

"They weren't going crazy in the way you'd imagine."

Sarah interrupted once more, shoving Kem lightly as they approached a large, mansion-sized building at the top of the hill. The property was large, spanning the entire top of the mound, and the clouds lie only a small distance away from them.

"Stop being so stubborn. They thought you were the cutest--"

"Get out."

Sarah released another spout of laughter while Bo and Miya sat smiling, and Kem stopped the car, parking it in front of the building's massive garage.
