Chapter 1 - Lanet

Chapter 1

There are some moments that you question if you are alive. I for one, spent my whole life thinking about this question. Before sleeping, while eating, listening music or walking around. However, if you grew up in a conservative and controlled family, that curiosity remains only in questions. Even if what you are living is not living, you make yourself believe that you are. I'm Esin. Until now I thought I was living the perfect and the way it should be, thinking that I really had what everyone wanted to have. As it should be… What is the thing that should happen? My thoughts? No. Because I could not choose any event in my life, I did not direct my life, they always directed. Who are they? They are traditional patterns that we cannot cross. If you ask what a person's life ambition is, our life line is usually drawn like this; being born, growing up, having a profession, maybe marrying and dying. But there are more fun and mysterious things in life. Wouldn't living as an ordinary person not waste this world? Let's skip this monotonous life. Is the world just what we see? What about lifetimes that we haven't seen but we can't see? I'm sure everyone has thought.

Many of us have thought inside out the other side of the world. You know, the spells that existed in the old beliefs mentioned in those films, vampires, werewolves, demons... I also took this curiosity a little further to see if it was real. This time I was determined not to leave my curiosity on the questions. Of course, I didn't know where to start these things. I used the internet as my first job. Then, when I could not find all the old and forgotten information on the internet, I searched the old libraries. I found some books, got into some human societies. There were also people like me wondering about these things. Of course, I was very excited about it at first and admired many of these people. But then I realized that these people were putting out false beliefs just to get attention, and what they were telling was not true. This disappointed me. Before leaving the community, I told people like me that what was told there was wrong and I showed them by offering skiing from various books. Of course they didn't believe it, but I left that community thinking that I was doing my part. I continued my research for a while. I searched this for a while because if my family saw that I was interested in supernatural things like this... They probably won't take me seriously, even they'll try their best to put an end to my research. But this time I was determined. I was going to stand behind my choices and no one would get in front of me, whatever the outcome...

Because supernatural events often occur in movies or TV series, when we ask people, they usually say that this is the real world that we do not live in the movie. But I was determined to prove the opposite, and my interest and curiosity in supernatural phenomena grew stronger with the information I learned every day. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't get in front of it anymore. I was somehow certain that we are not alone in this world. And I was determined to do my best to reveal the beings that we could not see. I had a book about the ancient Maya civilization. In this book, a cave was mentioned and that cave was in Mardin, where I was born, also a city that has hosted many civilizations. When this information came together with my curiosity, I couldn't help myself and started thinking to find that cave somehow. Just then, my grandmother came to mind. My grandmother's name is Servi, but in the village of Dargeçit, where she lives, she is known as Amulet maker. In our culture, the amulet is a kind of talisman that contains prayers, is placed in a triangle shaped leather cover and attached to the neck in the form of a necklace. Sometimes this talisman is made by malicious people, not by prayer, but by black magic, and it causes great trouble for people they do not like. As soon as I could think of it, I called my grandmother. Because when I was little he always told me about a cave. The villagers knew where the place was, but nobody dared to go. Bad things have always happened to those who try to go…

According to rumors, the entrance to the place was protected by the demons because the world's greatest treasure was hidden inside. Moreover, one day a young man named Adnan decided to enter that cave. He made an amulet for protection, and drank the water in which he recited various prayers and set off. Although everyone tried to prevent it, he didn't listen to anyone. When the villagers, who were curious about the young man who did not return for hours, went to look, they found all the belongings of the young man near the cave but could not hear from the boy. About 50 years have passed since the incident, but still nobody knows where Adnan is. The cave mentioned in the book is a similar place and their location is in the same city. I decided to combine all this information and go to the village. Because a feeling was telling me that when I found that cave I would get closer to my purpose. When I told all this to my best friend Aslı, he laughed at me with laughter. It doesn't matter, I said I will not come back this way. Whether he believes or not does not change anything. My only problem was what excuse I would ask my family to ask permission to go to the village. So I thought something like this. The only way I could convince my family was to go through beliefs, so I was going to tell them that I had a bad dream and that I had to visit my grandmother so they would convince me and be with me until the bus. It happened as I wanted. My grandmother was waiting for me to make an amulet for me. I was on the bus now. Along the way, I read the book that talks about the cave. It would not be easy to find the cave, but my cousin, who was a shepherd in the village, would help me right here. Since he is a shepherd, he knows every corner of the village.

My uncles greeted me when I landed in Mardin. My cousin was also there. They took me to the village. I kissed my grandmother's hand and we ate well. Later my grandmother asked me about my dream. It was just here that I had to make up such a dream that my cousin had to help me and my uncles and grandmother had to let me go to the cave. I said the dream started in the village. I explained that I was in a mountainous area and there were goats around. Then I explained that something shadow-like would come to me and take me somewhere, and he wanted to show me the location of a treasure. Finally, I told my grandmother that he was talking about a cave and that he would not leave me in either world if I didn't go with him. She was shocked in the first place. The cave… God damned place… This two saying released from her mouth. And the last thing he said made me shudder. "I knew that today would come". "What day?" I asked. She said, do you remember Adnan? I replied, "Is it the kid who went to the cave and disappeared?" She said yes… I sent that boy. It turns out they chose you. She said it wouldn't have occurred to me that they would choose a girl. Then she started telling us from the very beginning.

It was about 50 years ago. We were very happy with Adnan. We were thinking of getting married. However, at that time, I started making amulets. At first, there was nothing because my only goal was to help people with prayers. But after a while I got an old book taken from a bookseller. The book contained the ancient Maya civilization and the supernatural events that took place at that time. However, the thing that caught my attention the most was a cave mentioned in the book. That cave was just the cave in our mountains. I told Adnan about this cave. Naturally, he wondered. Because it was written that it contains the most valuable treasure in the world. This made us very curious and excited. It was written that the cave was protected by the demons. That's why he couldn't go unprotected. That's why I wrote an amulet for him. I also gave me a pointed stick made of sycamore wood that was painted with a rabbit blood and spilled with rabbit bone powder. After that, we could not hear from him again...

When my grandmother mentioned the book, my blood froze. It was the book I read. How and in what way it came before me years later. Was it a coincidence? I do not think so…
