Taara walks around her apartment, the potion in her hands. Her brown skin glowing under the sun. She pushes her untamed hair away from her face. She's glad that Luan compressed the liquid potion into a little pill, which will make this mission easier.
"Can you stop sharing your caramel with me? It's making me nauseous", Taara walks over to the kitchen and grabs her fruit smoothie to wash away the caramel taste in her mouth. On the other side of the room, her dear caterpillar is laying on his bed chewing on caramel candy.
Companions to fairies are less like pets and more like soulmates that they can't live without. Not only that, but they can also share their thoughts, senses and are each other's battery.
It was all fun and games until Zeru discovered caramel candy. At first, Taara didn't mind the occasional caramel taste that lingered in her mouth but after a while, she started to grow sick of it, because Zeru would have at least five pieces of that disgusting candy on a daily basis. In the beginning, she thought it would be a phase and that he'd get over it. Two years have passed.
It did occur to her to just confiscate everything that is associated with caramel, but the thought of not seeing Zeru munching cutely on the candy made her sad, so she just lets him do what he wants.
In comparison to the usual delicate and small fairies, Taara is on the bigger side, something she used to be ashamed of but now embraces fully. Besides, if it weren't for her body she wouldn't have been able to lure all her previous targets into her traps. Yes, fairies naturally have an aura to them that attracts males but that's besides the points
"How about we drop the potion in his cup of blood?", Taara suggests.
"He drinks coffee", Zeru corrects her.
" A vampire that drinks coffee instead of blood? Are you serious?"
Zeru hums a yes.
"Oh my god, I've seen it all", she widens her eyes in disbelief. "A vampire drinking coffee? Does that mean it's my time to go? But I don't want to turn into a tree, that's not very exciting! Plus, I haven't reached the peak of my youth yet", Taara complains.
Zeru rolls his eyes at her Taara being dramatic and murmurs "Taara we're 800 years old."
"Not the point. How about you just turn into a butterfly and drop the potion in his coffee?"
"I don't want to", Zeru turns away.
"Please Zeru, just this one time", Taara trails after him.
___
"Just go", Taara groans.
"Stop rushing me, I need time to prepare", Zeru warns as he looks around nervously.
"Prepare for what? You're literally just going to turn into a butterfly and drop the potion in his coffee. Stop making it sound like an impossible thing" Taara rolls her eyes.
Yes, both of them are currently in air vents, completely forgetting that they are in fact, magical creatures.
"How many times am I supposed to tell you that I can't?" Zeru grumbles annoyed.
"That's why my brilliant brain came up with this plan. So cooperate or else I kick you down this vent," Taara warns as she crawls through the vent.
"Do that and watch me rattle you out for a snicker bar", Zeru threatens. It might seem like a joke for creatures who don't know Zeru but Taara knew that this caterpillar was very serious.
"One snicker bar? Seriously Zeru? I thought I would at least be worth a pack of snickers?"
Zeru looks at her disapprovingly and says "Don't push it."
"Whatever, let's get this over with because I have a manicure appointment at 3 pm", Taara glances at the watch on her wrist.
Zeru nods and both of them start crawling through the vents until they reach Lucius's office.
They look down through the vent cover and as expected Lucius is sitting behind his desk, reviewing some papers.
"So the only thing left to do is wait for him to leave so we can drop the potion in his drink since someone won't turn into a butterfly", Taara remarks.
Zeru ignores her remark and says. "Why don't you use your fairy magic? "
"He has a lemon tree in his office, I can't enter", Taara points at the little lemon tree in the corner of Lucius's office.
"Taara for the hundredth time, you can't die because of a lemon tree. Yes, lemons are deadly to fairies but times have evolved. Besides, you have to actually consume it for it to allegedly kill you and even if you do, the worst thing that'll happen is you getting diarrhea."
"Sounds awful to me", she shudders at the faint memory of the last time she had a lemon.
"Look at this"; Zerus gasps.
"Why? What's wrong?", her eyes search for a threat.
"Look at the bowl of candies". Zeru drools over the huge amount of candies on Lucius's desk.
Taara rolls her eyes and returns back to waiting for Lucius to leave the office.
"Oh my god", Zeru gasps again.
"If you talk about the bowl of candies again-."
"No seriously look", his urgent voice cuts her off and she turns to him.
Taara looks down and sees the empty office. Where did he go? Did he really leave the office in the couple of seconds she looked away? Whatever she doesn't have time to think about this.
"It's your turn Zeru", Taara says after she removes the air vent cover to allow Zeru to get through.
"On it."
Zeru slides down the wall. He reaches the office desk in less than a minute. He moves fast yet carefully to the cup of coffee. He climbs over the desk and drops the pill in the coffee. He doesn't leave until he makes sure that the pill fully dissolved into the coffee.
"Done?", Taara asks.
"Done", she hears Zeru's confirmation in her mind.
"Ah right, telepathy", Taara mumbles as she tells him to hurry back.
She hears Zeru'sa yes in her mind and he starts moving.
Wait a minute. He's going the wrong way.
"Where are you going?", she hisses at him.
"I'm just curious", he answers as he moves closer to the bowl of candy.
"Zeru I swear on the sacred tree I will feed you to our neighbor's bird if you don't turn around immediately", Taara hisses.
"Might as well make it my last meal", she hears him giggle in her mind.
"Zeru you're suicidal tendencies are making me nervous", Taara says before sighing in defeat "Okay have whatever you want but make it quick."
Taara grows impatient at how slowly Zeru is munching on the candy so she decides to take matters into her own hand.
She jumps down the vent and grabs her dear caterpillar. Her wings flutter ready to fly them up into the vent opening.
Click.
Taara's eyes widen in horror when she hears the sound of the door opening. She slowly turns around with her heart hammering against her chest.
"What are you doing here?"
Shit.
