"Why isn't he answering?", Taara puffs her cheeks in annoyance. She's been trying to reach Lucius for days but he hasn't been answering her calls.
"I shouldn't have paid him back so quickly" she sighs before saying "Maybe he got annoyed by the numerous messages I sent him. What do you think Zeru?", Taara looks at the massive caterpillar on her lap.
Fairies are assigned to companions from a young age. Taara's companion is a caterpillar that grew to the size of her upper arm. These companions can shape-shift and talk. Shapeshifting is a challenge for Zeru since he's abnormally overweight.
"Let me message him on social media", Taara sings while tapping on her phone.
"Did he block me?", she screeches in disbelief. How dare he block her? That sorry excuse of a vampire. He's acting as if she's overwhelming him when she's only been calling him 12 times a day, which is perfectly normal.
"How about visiting him?", Zeru suggests.
Something clicks in Taara's mind and a scary smirk appears on her face.
"Zeru you're a genius", she squishes his cheeks.
"Okay, okay! Don't touch the cheeks!", he struggles against her fingers. Zeru sighs in relief when her strong fingers leave his delicately soft cheeks.
"Let's go Zeru, we have so much to do", Taara says with a determined look in her eyes.
___
"No."
"Haha very funny, I said make it for me", Taara hisses.
"Keep talking in that tone and you'll see what I'm capable of", Luan challenges her with a smirk.
Luan is the only creature that seems to tolerate Taara. As a witch, it's easy for him to just cast a spell on her to shut her up or he could just make her unknowingly drink a potion and suddenly she obeys every order of his, being his exclusive slave.
Don't be mistaken, they aren't friends they're just acquaintances that are constantly on each other's throats.
"How about you just do your job?", Taara glares at him matching his momentum.
Taara and Luan are glaring at each other. It might seem like a normal staring contest to nonmagical creatures but anyone with the slightest sprinkle of magic would be paralyzed by now. This is how strong they are. If it weren't for the protection spell in Zeru's body, he would've died the moment they started.
"Oh someone has gotten stronger", Luan nods impressed and releases his hold on her.
"You're lucky I went easy on you", Taara chuckles as she walks to the window.
Luan lives in a fancy penthouse in the center of the city, the complete opposite of a typical witch's den.
"Oh, you shouldn't have. Next time give me a taste of this unbelievable power of yours", Luan rolls his eyes mocking her before continuing "Let's cut the chase, we both know that you're not the type to visit without a purpose", Luan crosses his arms and leans back on the sofa he's sitting on.
"I need a spell."
"I remember rejecting that", Luan declares.
"Please just this once." Taara sits next to him with her hands clasped together.
"You said that last time and you somehow ended up on the news", Luan reminds her with a stern face.
"But you know that it wasn't my fault", she groans "I just wanted to get away from that greasy old man, besides how the hell was I supposed to know that it would cause such a big explosion?"
"Because, I specifically warned you to only use it when you're left with no option", Luan rubs his hands over his face, annoyed.
"How about we forget the past and start fresh?", Taara attempts to make a cute face but fails miserably.
"Stop making that face it's making me want to kick you out, right Zeru?", Luan turns to the caterpillar.
"Huh?", Zeru stops stuffing his face with honey candy and freezes on his spot.
"How many times did I tell you that eating more than one isn't good for you? Look at how abnormally round you are", Luan scolds Zeru and snatches the jar from his hands.
"Hater", Zeru blurts.
"Did you say something?", Luan raises his eyebrow.
"Nothing, I was just thanking you for your thoughtfulness", Zeru responds with a forced smile.
"Anyways, can we concentrate on what's important? No offense Zeru", Taara sends a flying kiss to her caterpillar.
"None taken", Zeru shrugs.
"If you manage to convince me with your masterplan, then I'll think about it", Luan challenges her with a grin.
"So about a week ago I met this vampire that looks everything opposite of how a vampire should look-"
"Hilarious coming from a fairy with dark skin and green eyes", Zeru says mockingly.
"Looks like someone is in a mood for jokes, huh?", Taara throws the nearest pillow at a screeching Zeru.
"He made a point though. You're not the average fairy, maybe the deities got bored and decided to change it up?", Luan laughs finding his joke hilarious but Taara's unimpressed looks shows it's not.
"Anyways, I saw an announcement that he needed an assistant. So I need your help to get it in", Taara ignores his attempt to joke.
Luan clears his throat embarrassed and says "How am I supposed to do that?"
"Don't ask me, I'm not the witch here, you are", Taara shrugs nonchalantly and plops a candy in her mouth.
"How about you apply like every normal creature out there?", Luan suggests.
Taara stops chewing and turns to him with a confused look.
"I assume you're saying this because you haven't seen her embarrassingly empty CV", Zeru shakes his head with a chuckle.
"Zeru, I sincerely question your loyalty towards me. The way you embarrass me whenever you get the chance is actually very concerning", Taara remarks with a snort.
"I'm just stating facts, embarrassing you would never be my intention", Zeru shrugs and takes another candy, ignoring Luan's glare.
"Just give me a potion or a spell so that I can get that job", Taara sighs annoyed.
"Fine, but if you succeed with the plan, I claim 40% of your win" Luan demands.
"Fine."
"Autogram please", he grins cheekily.
"You're not serious", she groans.
"Oh babe, you know I don't do empty promises. Sign.", he pushes a piece of paper and a pen into her hands.
"I can't believe you don't trust my words", she scowls at him.
A moment of silence washes over them as Taara contemplates signing the agreement.
"Can't we make it less? 40% is a lot, I already give Zeru 15%", Taara whines, refusing to sign.
"40% or no potion, the choice is yours", Luan shrugs not really having anything to lose at this point.
"Never took you as one to take advantage of my desperation", Taara pouts as tears fill her eyes.
"Babe, we both know your little play won't work on me. Now stop being dramatic and sign the agreement", Luan rolls his eyes, knowing exactly that she's just trying to drag this out.
"30", Taara tries to compromise.
"40"
"How about 35?", Taara tries again.
"I said 40", Luan sternly refuses.
"Fine, 40% it is", Taara deflates and reluctantly signs the paper.
"Great, the potion will be ready tomorrow by noon", Luan announces with a huge smile.
"It better be", Taara grumbles.
"Lighten up babe, you're acting as if it's our first time", Luan wraps his arm around her shoulders.
"First time or hundredth time, it still hurts the same", she slaps his hand away and walks to Zeru.
"Stop stuffing your face or else I won't be able to carry around anymore", Taara reaches out to him and grunts as she pulls him into her arms.
"See you tomorrow", Luan calls after her.
"You better not sleep a wink until you're done with the potion, because I'd hate for my plans to be delayed because of you", Taara declares before slamming the door shut.
Luan scoffs while mumbling "She's unbelievable."
