(SKYLAR)
The next morning, I was back at the cafe. There was the regular morning rush; people coming in for coffee and their morning bagels. A line was formed at the counter and Kayla was standing behind the register, taking orders and handing out receipts.
I entered the cafe and the cool air from the AC sent a shiver down my spine. The air outside was humid and dense. After raining halfway through the night, the sun was now dampening the cool rain air and making it impossible to not sweat. Walking into the cafe was like stepping into the magical lands of Narnia.
I pushed through the line of people and walked up to the counter. "Hey, Kayla," I said. "Where's Maddy?"
Kayla looked away from the computer, "Oh, didn't she tell you? Maddy's at home. She said she wasn't feeling too well…"
My brows creased together. "What?" °Why didn't she tell me?°
