After I stopped talking, Maddy took a minute-long pause before she finally replied.
"I don't understand. What does he mean by 'I don't believe in love'? What doesn't he believe? In the feeling of love or the use of the term 'love'? Which is it?" she asked.
"I don't know. I didn't ask him," I said. "I was too busy being shocked."
"Sky…" Maddy sighed.
"I know what you're going to say, Maddy. But I'm not sure I want to hear you say 'I told you so'. I'm in no mood to be mocked right now," I said irritably.
"I wasn't gonna say that."
"No, but you did tell me. You did tell me to be careful. You told me this wouldn't end well and I just… I kept getting carried away in this feeling!" I let out a frustrated groan. "Ugh! I feel so stupid, Maddy. I know that he cares for me a lot but it's just not the same!"
