Chapter 2 - Prelude

Emily grew up in a loving household her parent hiding from her a great truth of who she was. Her parents were very secretive didn't go out much either they lived in the Americas in the woods off to themselves mostly. Emily rarely saw other people outside her parent's visitors were fleeting often just tradesmen or gypsies passing through the land. The nearest town was miles off. They had a farm that supplied all their needs it was common in those days. Quakers are what you would call them really or pilgrims and pioneers of the new world.

Born here in the Americas Emily had never gone beyond the farm over time though people moved in and soon a village formed nearby. People of the time were very superstitious and religious to a Tee. When people discovered that the family was slightly odd her mother never coming or being seen during the day only her father. And herself of course in and around the farm during the day but lights and singing and liveliness through the estate at night through the whole of night people questioned. Though nothing was said.

That is until live stoke would disappear, then a week or so later be found in the woods heading toward the cabin in which Emily and her family lived. At first, it was thought woods, but as more and more were found drained of blood and little to no meat removed from the carcass. Well, the village and its people trembled with fear and superstition it became worse when a feeble old man was found dead near a river. There was little explanation for his death. And though he was feeble he hadn't always been it hadn't been until the little family that had taken up residence in a small farm outside the village that he had become so.

Having enough the villagers called a priest who created a church and upon hearing and seeing the complaints himself from there decided enough was enough and launched a witch trial. Seeing this coming upon the priest's arrival this small family sent away from their child Amelia to live in the care of an aunt back across the seas she was sent on her own with travelers to the boat. however, the mother and father stayed and one fate full night the same week the parents sent away from their little girl a witch-hunt began for the couple.

When the little family was discovered missing suddenly themselves upon the time of seizing. All were shocked and all the more scared for the little farm now held a small child-size grave on the land. When the commissioner had the grave dug up only the body of a small infant was found one that had obviously been too sickly and also a victim of an attack from the creature that had plagued the village as well. With regrets for the family that had disappeared into the night and fear for the village. The villagers returned to their lives through sickness continued to plague the town soon the illness seems to be overcome and the villagers happy to move on from the whole ordeal and glad they had not condemned an already suffering family in the superstitious fear.

Meanwhile to protect their small daughter the only child in which they still had left they placed their daughter on a ship back to Europe from which they had come ahead of themselves for the wife too weak from giving birth to travel had to wait . to protect the girl however she was wiped of much memory of this and with a kiss on her forehead, her identity and nature even unto herself was concealed. And thus, Amelia became Emily over the years and raising herself unknowing of who she was and little to remember her old self by was sent to live with an aunt.

Unfortunately, the witch trials reached Amelia's aunt before she could and left to her own devices. She had to survive on her own. A girl no more than ten years old, in the late 1500s on her own was sent either to an orphanage or jail. As many children on the street had to steal to survive. Amelia grew up rather quickly and in time got jobs and got herself off the streets she did well for herself.

As for Samson, he was much more fortunate upon arrival in this world his family already were in the Americas. There his father had secured a vast amount of land and set up a small fortress for not only himself but for a small community. A community of vampires a place where people left them alone and those that didn't pay with their lives becoming food for the at first small coven of about ten. Including Samson his mother and brother as well as his brother's mother Griseld.
