Henry was in a grumpy state by the time he returned from his office the next day. He sighed when his thoughts drifted to his mother. Although he had called to check on his mother earlier that day, and she had said she was feeling better, but he found it very difficult to believe since he had lost his father to cancer just a year ago.
He had thought by now he would have gotten over the gloominess of the past day, but somehow he was still in a foul mood. Perhaps it was just not because of his sick mother, but also because of his ex who he had seen… he scowled when he remembered the crazy girl who had called him blind. He wished he had pushed the door a little harder, maybe she wouldn't have had the time to run her mouth so much had she been injured.
He yawned, but couldn't tell whether it was because of hunger or exhaustion since he was both very hungry and tired. He decided to freshen up, since he was sure that would make him feel relaxed, long enough to fix his dinner. He lived alone in a huge mansion which he had built himself. He didn't really like keeping servants around. He had a gateman and a cook but he sacked his cook because of her misconducts. And he wasn't willing to employ a new cook.
"I'll just prepare my lunch myself. I can't risk running into another crazy bitch like the one I met yesterday".. he sighed.
Henry walked into his kitchen and stared around for sometime not knowing what to prepare. Then opened one of his cupboards and saw a carton of spaghetti and decided to cook a simple and quick food.
He wasn't a great chef but he always had help preparing his meals by watching some YouTube tutorials.
"I will cook Lemon Ricotta Pasta" he said to himself.
He brought out his pot and began.
He added water to the pot and salt and let it boil before he poured in spaghetti, he cooked it for some minutes, drained the water.
Then poured in all the ingredients and stirred. His lunch was ready, he served hot in his plate.
He sprinkled basil, more pecorino, and a drizzle of olive oil.
Feeling impressed with the sweet smell of his dish he ate immediately and took a glass of black cherry wine. He washed the dishes and pot he used to cook and went to his room.
He found himself on the bed..
"I must have slept off immediately after eating" he said.
Waking up trying to look around for his phone to check the time. It was 7pm
He took his phone and remembered his mom and dialed her number.
Mrs. Johnson, Henry's mother was sitting in her living room relaxing watching her regular show on TV when her phone rang. She looked at it from afar who could this be? she asked.
She had a light beam on her face seeing the caller was Henry her second son calling for the second time today.
"Hello" she said.
"Hey mom, How are you feeling now?" Henry asked.
"My darling I am fine, I told you earlier this morning when you called. You worry too much my son there's no need to get yourself so worried, and besides your kid sister is taking care of me". His mother said as she glimmered a smile, She tried to tease him of always calling her.
"How is she?" Henry asked. "Don't you call your kid sister the way you call me?" she asked giving a chuckle, anyways she's fine too but she went out "Mom I have been busy lately that's why but she called me yesterday to inform me of your I'll health", He responded.
"Son you know you need to get a wife, you're 28 so you won't have to always bother about me like you do" his mom said… Mom! Not today cutting her short. "I told you I am not mentally and emotionally ready for another relationship now, when I'm ready I will find a wife for myself and besides I can't get married now when my elder brother isn't married" Henry said giving that as an excuse.
Henry remembered his mother was the one that introduced him to his ex Claire, and he didn't want her making any decisions concerning him getting married. He wanted to take his time to find a girl who isn't all about his wealth.
"Mom how is Los Angeles?" he asked trying to change their conversation.
"Here's good as always, when would you come visiting? You know it's been a year since I last saw you" she asked. "I will come soon", he said laughing.
"When last did you hear from your brother Hale?" she asked with concern. "I think a month ago, he's doing fine and he said he would be visiting me here in San Francisco and that he'd be coming for a business trip" he replied.
"That's good at least you should try to communicate more often with your family, remember family is all you've got and remember you are only three so your relationship should be strong" his mom said.
Henry's brother Hale was 32 years and single, he was too busy with his businesses. Having to manage his share of his father's properties so he had no time for any woman.
"Alright mom I have heard all you said I'll try to call my siblings more often. I have to go now, do take care of yourself". Henry said
"Take care of yourself son" his mom replied. Then Henry ended the call.
Mrs. Johnson always feels so happy whenever she hears from her children.
Jane walked into the living room as she returned from the eatery where she went to get vanilla ice cream.
"Hi mom! Why are you so excited?" Jane asked.
"Your brother Henry called, we just finished talking over the phone" she said.
Jane feeling excited asked. "How's Henry? She asked.
"Mom! Hope you're feeling better?" Jane asked immediately as she walked to sit with her mother. "Yes my darling". Her mother replied her giving her a light pat on her shoulders. "And Henry is doing fine, he asked about you". She added.
"Alright then I'll be going to my room, I have a headache". Jane said while handing a big cup of ice cream she bought for her.
"Thanks Sweetie", Mrs.Johnson said to Jane who was on her way out of the living room.
