Chapter 5 - In Time Pt2

Sam.

His mind echoed.

Sam.

It echoed again, a voice at the back of his head. Telling him something he wasn't sure was right.

But what else did the s stand for?

"Sam." He whispered to himself, finding his voice, a voice that was foriegn even to him.

He was suddenly angry, filled with a vicious vehemence.

A sensation that stemmed from his suffering.

A spirit of emptiness, turned to longing, turned to anger at both.

He hated himself for feeling this way, and being too consumed by his own anguish to do anything about it.

After 4 years, he decided it was time.

Time to make a change.

"SAM!" He screamed vehemently, jumping from the branch and running somewhat forward.

The little girl stopped, 30 steps shy of her destination. Her white, flowy dress still shifting in the wind.

A tiny, white Mary Jane shoe rotated itself to the left, and the girl turned around, for that seemed to be her name.

She looked at him in near shock, as if that wasn't something she expected him to recall.

Then she gave him a dazzling beam, a smile only known to angels themselves.

Her hazel eyes matched his own, but were filled with an euphoria that was quite the opposite of his dejection.

They were creased into pure happiness, with glowing skin and vibrant dimples to match.

Unlike his pasty, cratered skin, and clouded irises. His dark brown hair now chalky, no longer holding it's youthful shine.

He could make out all too well the differences between them. He also recollected a time when they didn't have any.

The weight of the world pushed onto one child's shoulders, while the other didn't have a care.

They observed each other in silence.

One kept a smile, and one didn't.

The only sound to be heard was the gusts of atmosphere between the two.

He wanted to be as happy as she was.

So when his legs started moving, he didn't question it, he just kept his direction on her.

She too snapped out of her trace, and giggled, turning back around and heading towards the woods.

He rushed on, faster with every step.

The little girl continued, but she was much farther than him.

He knew he wouldn't make it.

"Stop!" He bellowed.

"Stop, please!" He cried, again, hoping it would work.

She didn't stop, she slowed down.

Until she was directly in front of the woods. Then she turned around once more. A small grin on her perfect face.

"Please." He begged with a breath, finally catching up.

"Please, take me with you." He began to weep.

"I cannot." Her voice was fair and innocent. Like a thousand sweet songs playing on his ears.

That's when he noticed her smile fade, and her brows crease in ache.

"Why?" He stated in a plea.

She gazed at the mournful boy in front of her. Whose silence went uninterrupted for 4 years.

"Because." She said, looking into his eyes, then to the right beyond him.

He too looked in the path her eyes were following, and they landed on his mother.

"Time to come inside!" She called out.

The boy turned back to the girl, only to see she was gone. In the blink of an eye, he was standing in that exact same field, alone.

It was like a never ending ripple effect, but with one exception.

This time he had achieved something big,

He had gotten her attention.
