Chapter 5 - Taste test, 2nd Course

'This is going to be interesting!' Hugo shouted within his own mind. 'I'm not sure what Margret could possibly be planning, Robert can transform into mythical creatures, like dragons, phoenixes and minotaurs. Why would she pick the gumbo to eat? She will gain fire powers, plus I added a little more spice to it so the fire power is a little more intense, but not enough to make it a level 4 dish. If I know my sister, she is going to do something amazing.'

Hugo looked over at Robert, he smiled. His face told him exactly what he was thinking. 'Margret is real naive,' he must have been thinking. 'She can't possibly defeat me with something like fire? Right."

Hugo had no doubt that Robert was aware of what recipes grant which powers, he may not be a top chef, but he was a top member of the seeker's guild, so he would know about recipes and abilities.

Hugo also knew that Robert knew about them, they weren't as legendary figures like them, but he knew that they carried potential.

Margret summoned a flame whirl. At first Robert didn't seem concerned at first, so he transformed into a Phoenix. Margret was surrounding the whole battlefield with fire. The fire was cut off near the barbecue, it was climbing upwards, it was like Margret and Robert were inside an invisible dome.

Robert didn't really see the point of covering the invisible dome with flames.

Margret concentrated the flames into a huge tornado that swirled around Robert's phoenix body. There were no longer any flames near her. Robert smiled; an odd thing for you to see a bird do. But soon he found it hard to breath and fly, and then he realised something! His phoenix body reached its limit and he feel down and caught fire, of course he was reborn from the ashes. He transformed into a dragon and escaped the tornado.

"That was a neat plan." Robert stated. He looked down but all he saw on Margret's face was a deadly serious look, it was as if she wasn't fazed at all. "Removing my oxygen so I can't breath and faint, very cleaver indeed."

"You may be a firefighter, but even a pro like you can forget even the most important stuff." Hugo noted. "My sister has learnt a lot from me, the strategies we come up with are absolutely unbelievable. They succeed 99.7% of the time."

Robert grinned a huge grin with his huge dragon mouth. "I was right, you two are indeed very special, I think that you will definitely get into our guild." He laughed. "But don't think that will work again, you won't be able to take me down that easy."

"You must have forgotten some official rules of power battles and trial battles. An important rule is that if both players are still standing after the hour ends and neither have 3 knockdowns, then the player with the most knockdowns wins. Even though you forgot to add this rule, the fact still remains that it is a rule that still exists, the rule should be applied to every battle with no exceptions. Basically this battle is best out of 5, as long as Margret dodges your attacks and survives without being knocked down a single time, then she wins without having a deciding vote or flipping a coin." Hugo explained.

"You do know your stuff don't you?" Robert inquired.

"I don't know how any of this started, or why. But ever since I was young all I have seen were challenges, I force myself to overcome them, no matter what costs befalls me." Hugo replied. "Beating the competition and winning that money is just a checkpoint on my journey to my ultimate goal of being a top class chef, and I'll pass it, even if we have to face someone else like you. But I must warn you, no pro can ever stand in our way, we are just too skilled."

"Will you two stop talking." Margret stated with a deadly serious voice. "This fight is no where close to over!"

"Oh, but of course." Robert stated. "I swear I'm going to give it my all this time! Your tricks won't work against me again!"

Margret just made a disapproving noise. She cared not of what Robert was planning. It didn't matter what Robert will do, Margret was sure to find a way through this battle without a single scratch.

Margret summoned more fire, however it was a very short flame, very low to the ground. She made sure it was far away from her. Even though she could control fire now, her body was still human, she could still get hurt from her flames. Not that it mattered, there were people on the sidelines who all carried healing potions, they were ready to step in, just in case someone got hurt.

Robert thought Margret's actions were odd, she was aware that he had transformed into a dragon, right? He was a beast that was immune to lava, so why did she summon small flames.

Then he realised something as the arena began to fill with smoke.

"Ah! A smoke screen? So you're blinding me?" Robert stated. 'What could she be planing?' He wondered.'

Robert saw something coming toward him through the thick smoke, it was Margret, there was no doubt that is was her. He opened his giant dragon jaws and charged up his fire blast attack. But she was too fast! She breathed a hot breath of flame into his mouth first!

'Did she think that would work? We don't need to question my dragon abilities since I've tested this form extensively. I'm immune to fire, even if it enters my mouth. So what was her plan?' Robert thought.

He tried his attack, but nothing happened. 'Eh?' Robert thought, this was a surprise, his attack had been nullified. 'I get it now!' Robert grinned with his dragon mouth. "You had your brother eat some of the gumbo and made him share his powers with you, you ate something that gave you the 'opposite' ability. You used your ability on your own fireball freezing the ducts I use for flame breath." Robert explained. Neither Hugo or Margret replied, although Hugo did seem to be somewhat ill, as if the gumbo he ate wasn't really agreeing with him. "I knew if from the very beginning, you two are indeed amazing!"

Margret slapped Robert's dragon belly. She then produced a purple ray that turned him back into a human.

Robert smiled still. "Nice move, but now what? With the ability you have now, all you can do is..." Robert began, but his eyes widened as he realised something. He saw Margret as she smiled a smug smile, she knew she had won. Robert knew she was up to something and he looked down to see a small fire beside her, a fire that wasn't there a second ago.

Margret put her finger into the flame and then froze it with ice.

"Working together? This is supposed to be a fair battle!" Robert noted.

"You said yourself that my sister and you weren't allowed to use your personal attributes or original abilities. You also stated that she was allowed to use as many powers as she wants. If you knew the rules you'd notice that nothing we have done goes against the conditions you made. Besides teams are allowed a maximum of 2 players. You can use your chef too if you wanted." Hugo explained, he was having a hard time, it seemed like he might throw up.

"Wow, you two are so young, yet so wise!" Robert noted.

"That's why we will always win." Hugo stated, he definitely was going to throw up soon, there was no doubt about that.

Margret threw a giant ice boulder at Robert and it made him fall over.

"That's two." Margret noted.

"I really like both of you! You two are so brilliant, it's scary!" Robert noted. "I don't think I'm at your level."

Margret and Hugo felt confused. Then they shortly realised what Robert meant. "Oh, are you saying we a better then you?" Hugo inquired.

"Yes, I can't believe I underestimated your abilities. If you get into the top 16, I'll personally accept you into the seeker's guild. That is, if that's what you want." Robert replied.

"Well thank you." Hugo stated. He seemed to perk up, but he still seemed quite ill.

"So are we still fighting?" Margret inquired.

"No, you have throughly beating me, I don't think I can handle being knocked down a third time without getting a chance to knock you down. I officially surrender. The battle goes to you." Robert stated.

"Good, about time, now do you mind looking after my sister for a little bit, I have to go to the toilet!" Hugo explained, and then dashed of faster than the Usain Bolt.

Margaret smiled an innocent childlike smile now, like all of her rage for battle was completely gone, it seemed like she was no longer in a serious mood. She looked very harmless and it sent shivers down Robert's spine.

"Did he have a super speed meal on that counter?" Robert asked.

"No, when my brother eats something he doesn't really like, he always speeds of to the nearest restroom. He could be an Olympic runner and earn a gold because of that ridiculous speed. But he prefers not to do that." Margret replied.

"You know, I was battered by you, and yet I can't help but respect you. I really do hope we meet again soon." Robert stated.

"You can count on it." Margret replied with a happy smile.

Hugo soon returned, he didn't seem sick anymore, he was in great shape now. "Margret, please don't make me eat seafood again." Hugo stated.

"Then next time make a 'fire' dish that doesn't contain seafood." Margret replied.

"I'll see you guys later." Robert stated and he walked uphill to the rough road where his driver had parked the limo.

"See you later as well." Hugo replied before Robert disappeared into the bushes. "Well," Hugo turned to his sister. "I guess that's enough training for today. Let's go home."

Margret and Hugo headed home. On their way they did run into people who wanted to kidnap them, but Margret got rid off them before they could even draw their weapons.

Margret was getting tired of these attacks, she was hopping that things would change soon.
