"According to the rules of ASK, every individual has to go through the Panel for test. You brought her already. She is not ready for this!"
"Don't remind me of the rules 'I' have made. If I can make them, surely they can be broken by me only."
Genevieve closed her eyes in stress. As she was thinking of the consequences that could revolt because humans were too stubborn on their principles.
"The people won't stop until she goes through the test. Not even your change of rules for the specific girl will help her."
The front door she had simply closed earlier, the door lashed out. Gene thought the door must have come out of its hinges from the audacity of the sound she heard.
Seeing the two people Horan wished never to see together within miles and miles of distance, he got irked with Genevieve's act.
The next moment she was engulfed into something, upon further inspection it was realised as Horan.
"What did you do to her? I will kill you this time!" Horan threatened Ark immediately, he shoved his wife behind him glaring at the supreme pointedly.
"She wanted to see me which you did not make happen. That's why I was here." He explained typically like that should quench all his thirst.
Then, Horan shifted his attention on her, roaming his hands around her to check for any injuries.
"I am fine, Horan. Really!" She insisted repeatedly.
After ensuring she appeared as she said, he pulled her back in his arms, "I am not at all happy with this meeting Gene. Don't do this again." His voice came irate and concerned at the same time, turning the woman guilty. She nodded apologetic.
"I am sorry. We knew this couldn't be avoided."
"If that was all you wanted to say, I will leave you two now." Ark informed and began turning back out from the bounded house Horan and Genevieve had built together. Their house attracted many eyes to look back on the beauty they managed to build.
"Just remember what I said Ark. Do the right thing for her, not yourself." Genevieve attempted the last time to convince him. That made Horan mad watching her caring for that devil more than necessary, his grip tightened on her, indicating her to get inside.
Ark's coat cap flew against the wind and unlike before where only his chiseled jaw was visible, the cap fell back revealing his recently trimmed black hair. The hair was so dark, it was impossible to make out the difference from his clothes and body.
"Is it your curse for me? You are the only one on this planet left, to do that."
Genevieve and Ark used to be best friends thus his statement rendered her weak. Horan was infuriated how much this man affected his wife till day.
"Not everyone thinks the same as you shit." Horan was quick in grabbing his coat collars. Genevieve might be unable to see straight in Ark's eyes but Horan was absolutely capable of it. It was something purely avoided by the lot of ASK.
Ark did not fight back.
The husband continued, "You simply cannot see her happy and that is why you took her sight. If prayers work in this age, I pray for Genevieve to never ever see you again. You don't deserve anything from her!" With that he released his hold leading Ark to stumble back which wasn't very forceful because he actually only skidded slightly.
"Horan, please." She called for her husband indicating from her tone to let's go back inside. Horan didn't waste a second for being by her side.
With the couple retracting and Ark stood waiting until they were safely back inside. Involuntarily he got reminded of the incidents of past. What did he expect? He can't vanish that from his memory. Those things work for humans.
Genevieve's wishes were granted when she saw her husband not involving in a fight with Ark. She did not want to be the reason for an uproar in the middle of the night.
There was a piercing sound just when Horan helped his wife inside the doorstep. Ark wasn't too reluctant to stay either, he had already taken detour to his own station. But the nerve-wrenching sound tore the eardrums of two people consisted there.
Ark whirled to the source of noise, followed soon by Weave. For a second, their eyes met each other, much to the husband's chagrin but he felt his jealousy didn't suit well in that period. Not a second later, Ark was found running to the boundaries of the town which was strictly enforced on the residents to never pass.
While running towards the huge perimeter like his life depended on it, Ark was reminded of the black incident that caused the destruction of all good things on this planet. Shaking his head away, he focused in increasing his speed.
"Where are you going? You need rest, Gene."
"Horan. I have to go. Someone has broken the barrier protecting this place. We have to go!" Despite of her tired being, she was hell bent on defying to all methods Horan was trying to make her stay.
"Fine. Wait here and I'll get Menice." She nodded agreeing as her husband went behind the house to fetch their horse.
Whatever the reason, there was just no way for anyone to pass that wall built to protect the town of ASK. Even the children are taught stories to keep them away from lingering too close to it.
"Why is this so unnerving? I brought Menice out of her shed with difficulty." He complained curiously in the process off calming down the beast.
"This is the Emergency siren. Its alerted when an unrecognizable being touches or harms the wall." She answered. Horan picked her up, setting on the saddle and took the seat behind her. Soon they were embarked to the direction.
"I think we are going on the wrong route." He expressed his concerns to his woman, whispering close to her ear.
"No. Keep heading that way. Its the wall's way of bringing us to them."
Horan was confused to the phenomena of Emergency ringing diminishing the nearer they got to it. Yet he complied. Not only his wife, but this whole place was a weird combat.
"It's the soothing way of telling us we are in the right direction. That's why your ears won't hurt now." She explained his unasked questions. They rode determinedly for now.
