He held me in his arms and the world around us melted away. It seemed like he wanted to say something but was holding it in. His mouth opened and he almost spoke when.
"Hate to interrupt but the guests have arrived for the party", Al called apologetic from inside. Sweet kissed my forehead then rushed off inside, taking whatever he was going to say with him. I stood alone at the table tying the balloons to the chairs. I kept on thinking about what he might have said. I wondered if it was something very important or not but since he didn't say it i concluded it probably wasn't.
Finishing up outside I headed into the kitchen were Al thanked everyone for a great set up and now to go enjoy the party. Al and Layla along with the triplets stayed up front to greet the guests. Layla said I could take my hair down now which I did and tied the ribbon around my wrist. Sweet and I were swept away into different groups who wanted to question each of us. Sweet was corralled by some boys his age that he seemed to know very well. I was cornered by a group of moms who wanted all the gossip about Ben's new girlfriend. I tried my best to appease them until I caught Sweets eye and he waved off his friend making his way over to me.
"Sorry to cut in but I need my gorgeous girlfriend's attention for a moment", he swooped in between us and took my hand leading me out of the gaggle of ladies.
"Oh my, I've never seen that boy so smitten, who knew?", I heard the ladies remark behind me. Sweet led me inside and upstairs, I felt nervous I'd never been this way before.
"Where are you taking me?", I whispered feeling like I was in a place I shouldn't be. He looked back to me with a comforting smile.
"I wanted to spend some time with you alone away from the party, so we are going to my room", he said whispering over his shoulder. My face turned red, thinking about going to his room I started to feel overwhelmed and unprepared. He saw the panic plastered across my face and clarified quickly, "oh nothing like that!", his expression turned to shock and panic as well.
"Don't worry I know you didn't mean anything like that", I I tried to reassure him as we reached his bedroom door. He shuffled on the spot looking racked with nerves. I placed my hand on his arm, that seemed to settle him a little, "why don't we hide out in here for a while?".
He nodded shaking off his nervous attitude and opened the door to his room. He scrambled in quickly to tidy up, grabbing a few clothes off the floor and sliding a notebook into a draw.
"Sorry it's a bit messy, I er it's a bit embarrassing", he said darting around his room in a frenzy. Rushing past me I grabbed his hand bringing him to an abrupt stop. "Let me just", he tried to say.
"Sweet it's fine, it's not messy", I interrupted pleading for him to slow down. Before I could think he took my face in his hands and kissed me tenderly. I reciprocated wrapping my arms around his neck and pulled myself tighter to him. It felt so peaceful, there was no one but me and him. His hands tangled in my hair, the sound of the party outside faded away. The intensity grew as my hand grasped his T-shirt. His hands slid down my back and instinctively ruffled and scrunched my T-shirt. Becoming softer he rested his then at the bottom of my back and parted from my lips.
"I've been thinking about this all day, no not this, I mean I'm trying to say, Sunny I … ", he started to ramble looking less confident with every word he spoke. Before I knew it the words had bubbled up inside me and wanted to burst out.
"Sweet!", I blurted out, "I love you". A creeping sense of regret and embarrassment was building as he looked at me awestruck. My body felt the urge to run away but I was glued down to the floor.
"You beat me to it, I love you too sunshine", the dread cleared in an instant as he spoke. He held me tightly kissing me gently as we both smiled widely. "I have something for you, hang on let me go get it", he kissed my hands and pulled himself away from me much to my disappointment. He left the room and I collapsed onto his bed, I felt weightless, completely engulfed by love. He took longer then I expected so I decided to look around a little, I flicked through the books on his desk all of them about baking. Then I looked at his movies, he was definitely a fan of old sci-fi. I thought about the book he had hidden away and slowly I opened the draw. I was about to reach in and get the book when I heard footsteps on the stairs. I slammed the draw shut and launched myself back into the bed. I breathed heavily as he came back into the room to see me sitting on the end of his bed.
"What have you been up to?", he looked at me suspiciously, his eyes making their way around the room.
"Nothing much just now realising my boyfriend is a big sci-fi nerd", I teased him, pointing to his movies. He sat next to me on the bed holding something begging his back.
"I may be a sci-fi nerd but, I love it when you call me that", he grinned as he whispered the second part. I blushed and my stomach filled with butterflies. "Now here's a gift for the girl I love", he proclaimed happily presenting a pink cake topped with strawberries. My eyes grew larger as I looked at the delicious cake. "Go on try it", he said holding the plate closer to me. I picked up the fork next to it and scooped up a large bite. The flavour of the cake exploded in my mouth, the taste of strawberries and cream swirled around on my tongue.
"Mmmnn", I murmured as I chewed the scrumptious bite of cake. Sweet was looking at me warmly silently watching me enjoy his gift.
"Your turn", I scooped up another bite of cake and fed it to him before he could protest. He quickly finished his bite.
"This is your gift you don't have to share it with me", he said half frowning. I shook my head vigorously.
"If it's my gift I should decide who eats it, and I want us to eat it together", I pressed my finger to his lips before he could argue. He relented and we finished the cake together one bite at a time. After the cake we laid down in his bed talking none stop.
"Did you like working here today?", he laid beside me on his side resting his head on his pillow. He twirled my hair in his fingers as he spoke.
"I don't think I was any good at it but I really love spending time here", I sighed accepting my own inexperience. An expression of deep thought and consideration took over his face.
"If there was a job, would you work here?", he said cautiously choosing his words wisely. I took a second to consider his hypothetical question, if it was an option would I want to.
"Hmm well if it was an option I think I'd like to work here but I'd be worried about distracting you too much", I spoke softly sliding myself closer to him, resting my head against his.
"Well it just so happens there is a job here for you part time of you want it, I also promise I won't get too distracted while we're working", he said in a serious tone that I had rarely seen from him.
"You honestly believe you can keep the mischief monster at bay", I laughed gently, sliding my fingers through his hair. He let out a deep groan, my heart was racing, knowing I had awoken the monster myself.
"Mmm, you'd have to promise me not to do things like this and I think I can manage", he murmured tilting his head back. I started to pull my hands away when he clasped his around them. "I should be more clear out of work you can put your hands on me whenever you like", he explained, releasing my hands that found their way back into his hair, whilst his found a path to my hips.
"With those terms how could refuse, guess I need to practice my pizza making", I said slowly realising how much I'd need to learn. Sweet nodded and laughed sweetly, laying together quietly we drifted off to sleep.
