Chapter 6 - chapter 6

The sun crawled along the sky, by the time they would rest it would be midday. violets hunger had grown almost unbearable.

Though she didn't complain, letting the ache in her gums and the burn in her stomach slowly drive her to insanity. surely they would stop to find food soon.

Elise held up a hand, motioning violet it be still. she looked around and soon noticed why Elise had stopped. a deer, picking leaves off a blackberry bush, to violet's ears the munching and grinding sound was almost unbearable. she wondered why she hadn't noticed or scented it before. she must of been too focused on her growing hunger and insanity to actually notice food.

In the few moments that Elise had spotted the deer she had stripped down, and transformed into a majestic grey wolf. with glowing amber eyes.

Violet stepped back giving her space, she didn't want to startle Elise's wolf form. The wolf sniffed her, deeming violet not a threat she silently stalked towards the deer.

Every step the wolf took Violet couldn't look away. Pure power and strength radiated from the wolf with every movement made. Elise continued to stalk the wolf, now crouching behind a bush as the deer continued to strip leaves. the deer didn't know the fate that beheld her, but when Elise continued to creep forward, it was already too late for the deer to make an escape.

It was already dead.

violet stood there. some what shocked, she had killed smaller game plenty but had never once seen a wolf stalk pray. it was something you held your breath to watch, silent. the wold seemed to stop turning and once that final blow had been bestowed she could finally move.

"Wow..." violet exclaimed, as Elise pulled the limp deer towards her. "that--that was amazing", she said as Elise dropped the deer and looked up at violet to see if she was going to share the fresh meat with her. violet held up her wrists, Elise stopped--contemplating. the feeling of metal against violet's skin vanished and she smiled. walking over to feast upon the deer.

within thirty minutes they were moving again, cutting up the rest of the meat to store away in Elise's ruck sack. they would need more food later tonight. The sun was still blaringly hot even though they stayed the most part in the shade. though at some points that was impossible and when Violet saw a patch of light she cringed inwardly. she wasn't going to show her pain too Elise, though she guessed that she could already feel it or at least sense it because she said, "in the next town we will stop to buy you a coat to cover your exposed skin". Violet was grateful but just nodded her head in response as they continued moving.

dusk befell them soon enough, bringing with it cool refreshing night air. it was a blessed relief for both Violet and Elise. when they stopped for the night, finding a fallen tree to sit upon Violet asked. "Where are we going?". Elide didn't seem to register the question asked as she continued to unpack her bag, bringing out the meat from earlier. Violet was gonna ask the question again but them Elise simply stated, "to visit my pack".

"Why?" Violet asked curiously.

Elise handed her a slab of meat and she bite into it while looking at Elise, waiting for an answer. Elise sighed, "Well if you must know we are gonna need some more help if we are going to find the man from both our pasts". Violet paused her eating, shocked, "wait! how do you know about...him?" she said in a low whisper, as if he would appear out of thin air and try to kill them.

"when you had passed out I entered your mind for only a moment to see if you were deceiving me, that's when I saw him" Elise said, ripping a chunk of meat from the slab in her hand. "it seems he had taken an interest to the both of us and I want to know why"

Violet just nodded, not sure what else to say, the meat in her stomach began to spoil and she felt as if she was gonna be sick. Though she tried to push away the feeling of impending doom as Elise stood from the log and pulled a thin woollen blanket from the sack an laid it down on the leaf covered ground. Violet stood up as well. "do you think something might go wrong?" she asked as she laid down next to Elise, looking up at the stars.

"I don't want to be caught off guard if something does go wrong, better to be safe then sorry" was all she said. She felt Elise rolled over and took that as an indication to stop talking. sighing Violet stared up at the sky. a few moments later she heard Elise speak, "when my mind was troubled or I felt alone in the world I always looked up at the stars, see them twinkle and stare back at me, even feeling there loneliness. I would look at those stars while you can, before all you see is black"

with those words thrown out into the void that's exactly what Violet did. and when she stared up at them she felt them stare back.
