Chapter 40 - Chapter 40 The Butler Staged a Show

Due to how tired she was, she had slept for a long time. When she finally sat down to eat, it was already two in the afternoon.

When she drank the tonic that Fei Mo had instructed the kitchen to prepare for her, she felt it tasted as sweet as honey.

Soon after, Uncle Zhao entered the dining room again. His movements were graceful and like that of the butlers from Country Y. His gaze was kind as he said to Yun Yiyi, "Please let me know if you have any preference in regard to food. I'll arrange it for you."

Yun Yiyi took a sip from the glass of milk at the side before she said with a faint smile, "I'm not really picky about food. However, I do like spicy food."

Uncle Zhao's eyes flashed with a complicated emotion upon hearing these words. He recalled how Fei Mo had to eat spicy hotpot because of Yun Yiyi. He really felt distressed for his young master whenever he thought about this. After a while, he asked, "Then, is today's food to your liking, young madam?"

Yun Yiyi nodded and smiled at Uncle Zhao. "It's very delicious. Thank you."

Uncle Zhao smiled at Yun Yiyi before he turned around and shot a meaningful look at the maid who was silently waiting at the side.

When the maid saw Uncle Zhao's look, she immediately turned to the side and carried a bowl of soup over.

Meanwhile, Uncle Zhao bent down and pretended to arrange the cutleries next to Yun Yiyi as he looked at her surreptitiously from the corners of his eyes.

Yun Yiyi was engrossed in eating so she did not notice Uncle Zhao and the maid's strange interaction.

When the maid drew close to Yun Yiyi, she seemed to trip and spilled the soup on Yun Yiyi's arm. She panicked as she apologized profusely, "I'm sorry, young madam. I'm sorry..."

Yun Yiyi started. Fortunately, the soup was warm. If it was piping hot, she would have lost a layer of skin on her arm. She looked at the panicking maid and gently said, "It's okay. The soup is warm. I wasn't scalded."

"What are you waiting for? Bring young master's medicine box over." Uncle Zhao looked at the maid nervously. Then, he picked up a napkin from the side and quickly said, "Young madam, you should run cold water over your arm. Don't touch your arm."

"It's fine. I didn't get scalded," Yun Yiyi looked at uncle Zhao and explained, "The soup is almost cold."

Uncle Zhao looked at Yun Yiyi solemnly as she said, "Whether it's hot or cold, I'm responsible for looking after your food and living. I can't allow you to get hurt. Otherwise, I won't be able to explain myself to young master."

Yun Yiyi wanted to protest, but when she saw the nervous expression on Uncle Zhao's face, she swallowed her words and allowed him to lead her to the sink.

She quickly washed her arm. Her skin was not even red.

Uncle Zhao frowned, worried. He took the medicine box from the maid and placed it in front of Yun Yiyi. When he opened the medicine box, he said, "This is young master's personal medicine box. All the medicines he often uses are kept in here. Let me see if there are any ointments for burns."

She watched Uncle Zhao open the medicine box and saw it was filled with medicines. She saw medications to treat stomach aches, rhinitis, anti-inflammatory medicines, and antihistamines. Her eyes were brimming with complicated emotions.

The medicines clearly indicated that Fei Mo had problems with his stomach. He must have chronic problems with his stomach. Moreover, based on how hard he worked, it must be even harder for him to completely recover.

She reached out and picked up medicine for allergy to shrimp. Her body stiffened immediately. Scenes of her bringing Fei Mo to the spicy hotpot restaurant, how he did not eat in the beginning, and how she made him eat the shrimps flashed in her mind instantly.

At this moment, Uncle Zhao seemed focused on looking for ointments to treat burns, but he was, in fact, observing Yun Yiyi's reaction. His lips lifted into a slight smile when he saw her reaction. At this moment, he picked up a white tube and cried out, "I found it! It hasn't expired. Do you need help with applying it, young madam?"

Yun Yiyi regained her senses when she heard Uncle Zhao's words. She replied softly, "I can apply it on my own…" After she took the white tube from him, she looked at him knowingly and said, "Thank you, Uncle Zhao." After she finished speaking, she left the dining room.

Uncle Zhao was stunned. It seemed like he had been seen through by Yun Yiyi. It seemed like the young madam was rather intelligent and kind.

At this moment, the maid who had spilled the soup on Yun Yiyi said worriedly, "Uncle Zhao, if young madam tells young master about this, young master will be very angry."

"Don't worry. Young madam is smart. She won't tell young master," Uncle Zhao said as he closed the medicine box. He sighed and muttered to himself, "I'm sorry, young master. However, I really can't bear watching you force yourself to eat spicy food for young madam's sake. I hope you won't blame me for this..."

When Yun Yiyi returned to the bedroom, she discovered the bed sheet had been changed. A hint of distress could be seen in her eyes at this moment. She was aware that Uncle Zhao had staged the incident so she would be able to see the medicine in Fei Mo's medicine box. He went to quite a lot of trouble just to let her know about Fei Mo's condition.

She felt extremely sorry when she recalled how Fei Mo did not refuse her even though he clearly could not eat spicy food and shrimps. He was really a fool. Why did he not directly tell her he could not eat spicy food and shrimps?

Although she was slightly annoyed, she knew the reason why he did not refuse her.

At that time, she was hungry and engrossed in eating her favorite hotpot that she did not notice his abnormalities. In hindsight, it was clear his face was pale, and he was feeling unwell. He had been enduring the entire time so he would not spoil her mood. She felt even more distressed for him the more she thought about it.

If Uncle Zhao did not stage this incident, she would not have known at all. Who knew she might even continue to invite him to eat hotpot with her…

Warmth, affection, and gratitude filled her heart at this moment. He was really a good man worthy of her heart.
