That night at dinner, Lucia broached the subject of Ramelle again.
"I met with your sister today," She began. "She has asked a favour of me."
Keitel lowered his cup. He regarded Lucia with a deadpan stare.
"Oh?" He said flatly.
"She wants me to attend a gathering in Ramelle," Lucia stated.
"In Ramelle? Just after I tell you, you can't go." He chuckled. "It's not as though I can stop you if you have a legitimate invitation. Why bother with the pretence of asking?"
"It's not a pretence. Things are finally good between us. I thought about what you said yesterday...You're right about the door. Every time, I try to make the right choice, it backfires on me. This time, I want to be open with you."
"Do you really want to go back to Ramelle?" Keitel asked gravelly.
"No," Lucia answered straight away. "But I do want answers. I feel like I won't be able to live with my life until I know."
