When they rejoined the others, Rafaela was greeted by the SkyWater crew far more warmly than she expected.
It made her cry, and Brendan caught her up for a moment and asked worriedly, with a glance at her father's frown, "What's wrong?"
"I don't know," she whispered.
"Don't worry about it then," he murmured as he released her.
Corso Donatella did not shirk making himself known to Brendan, but he did it as though everyone at home could see them. Formally. Carefully.
Rafaela observed her father with subdued puzzlement, until she realized that all of SkyWater's crew were holding back, and behaving far more politely than they ever would have at home.
