Chapter 13 - Honeymoon

Christopher

I listened to the sound of planes taking off and landing which quickly became music to my ears the few minutes I was at the airport.

As quickly as it settled, it disappeared in the same vein as the cool Hawaiian air swept it all away. If I ever got married, I would love to bring my wife here for our honeymoon. Oh, I was married. How easily had I forgotten. This was the plan though, I had mentioned this to a few important people to me , so our honeymoon had to be in the dream place.

We arrived the hotel, beautiful, if I may add. The valets took our things and the hotel staff helped us get our things to our room.

"Thank you" Snow and I said to the hotel staff who helped us and then I tipped them. As they left I opened the room door and pulled my things in. I had to put my bag on the bed, about to unpack my things when I realized that there was no other movement in the room asides mine.

"Are you coming in or what?" I asked but there was no response. I walked back to the door. "Snow, come in or stay out" I said with a little temper. I didn't intend to do so but she had a way of bringing out my temper.

"I'm going to my own room, where is it?" she asked.

"You're standing in front of it" I replied.

"You can't be serious" she said to me.

"Ha ha ha" I fake laughed. "I'm serious" I said dryly.

"Both of us can't be in the same room" she told me, like I didn't already know that.

"Tell that to singles. We are married and our parents, meaning mine and yours booked this place. And if they didn't I would have done it too, because this is a sales pitch and our investors have to buy what we are selling. So we will do what couples do, stay in the same room" I said, the irritation evident in my voice. She only looked at me then walked away. I slammed the door as she left wishing her face were there. She was going to book another room!

Why am I even pissed, now I can have the whole room to myself.

I began to unpack my things and settle in this cozy room that only I was staying in and it was amazing.

"What is her problem? Who does she think she is? She is just a cop, a broke cop. What does she have? I mean, she is pretty and very attractive. Well, I am attracted, but she's not the first one. What does she have that other ladies don't? I mean she is fierce and strong, one will like that in a woman but so what? Looks aren't everything, neither is fierceness. Let's not forget that she can be rude and…" I was saying but was cut off by a loud banging on the door, then realized that I was actually shouting all the while I was speaking to myself, so much for speaking to myself.

I walked to the door before the person on the other end breaks it. I opened the door and saw Snow standing in front of me. She looked me in the eye then brushed past me as she walked into the room.

"Let me guess, you forgot that your account has been frozen" I said and she remained silent then I chuckled. "Then I'll take that as a yes"

Even I forgot.

I closed the door and walked back into the room. She was already unpacking her things, quickly.

"You're really that desperate to be with me, huh?" I said to her.

"I'm really that desperate to put a bullet in your brain and have this whole room to myself and then celebrate your passing. I'm really that desperate" She said.

Like I said fierce, let's include cold to that list.

"And thank you" She said to me.

"For what?" I asked, completely lost.

"I know I'm pretty and very attractive. You don't need to shout it to the whole hotel." She told me and immediately it hit me that she had heard everything I said. A small smile crept onto my face then I moved closer to her and whispered in her ear.

"If that's the case. I do think you are pretty and attractive. But those are not the only thoughts I have about you wifey." I whispered in a husky voice, and then stayed there for some more seconds before I continued unpacking.

~~~~~~
I understand now why Hawaii will be a good retirement home, why people come to Hawaii and not want to go back. This place was paradise.
I stood at the balcony of the suite I was in and in one minute, I started recalling the events of yesterday night. Snow is crazy, she literally pushed me off the bed several times after telling me to be on my side of the bed. But as always, once a rule breaker, always a rule breaker. I moved from my side of the bed to hers a couple of times. As a result, I was on the floor a couple of times. The whole incidence of last night made me smile.
A knock came on the door bringing me out my thoughts. I turned around
I opened the door and the hotels waitress was standing there with my order. Room service, the best part of staying in a hotel. I took my room service and headed back to my rooms balcony.
I looked around and took in the fresh Hawaiian air and then looked around at the beautiful features, I see why people love this place.
While gazing at the features, my eyes landed on a beauty while they were roaming. She seemed a bit familiar from behind but I couldn't place my hands on it. I looked at her for some time and kept having the feeling, I could already picture a beautiful face in front of that. I continued looking at her and when she stood up, the way she walked, I got to know who it was.
She turned to her side, revealing the side view of her face and confirming my thoughts, it was Snow. I bet she could kill me if she saw me looking at her.
And at that thought, she turned around and began looking around till her eyes met mine and we locked eyes. She looked at me angrily at first then the anger subsided then she looked away. Just in two looks, a million words were said. What could be her story I wondered. This honeymoon was going to be a complete waste and I needed to stop that from happening. I went to the landline on the table beside the bed and called the reception. I told them the arrangements I wanted for this evening and made sure everything was ready. When I was done with the call, the rooms door opened and Snow walked in, completely ignoring me, she walked to the bathroom.
"do you know that the first thing you do in the morning is to greet the person you shared a bed with the night before?" I asked.
"do you know that the first thing you do in the morning is not to stand at the balcony of your hotel room to look at women's body's at the beach when you just got married?" Alex asked as she came out of the bathroom.
"baby I was looking at you sugar pie" I said and blew her a kiss. She as always ignored me and walked to her side of the bed where I was standing. "well that's passed. Get ready, tonight by 7 we would be going out" I said to her as she picked up her things and continued doing what she was as I excused her and gave her some space in her corner.
"to where? To do what?" Alex asked.
"trust baby. Just be ready by 7" I said and was leaving the room.
"where are you gong to?" she asked again.
"well unlike you sugar pie, I love to have fun" I said to her then winked at her then left.
Hours later, when it was almost time, I went to the room of my newly made Hawaiian friend then had my clothes delivered to his room, then I got dressed there. By 7 I headed to the room, my hotel room, hoping that Snow had dressed. I knocked on the door and there was no answer. I knocked again and there was still no answer. I knocked for the last time and as there was no answer again, I pulled the handle of the door and saw it was not locked so I opened the door and walked. That's when I realized that Snow was inside the whole time but she was occupied by the music she was listening too. As she had her back faced to me I sneaked up on her as it was evident that her headphones was at it's higher volume. I stood quietly behind her and then slowly, I put my hand over her neck like I was about to attack her and then she jerked up. I removed one ear of her Bluetooth and I pulled her closer to me. Then brought my lips closer to her ear and whispered.
"if I were to be the bad guy, you'd be dead by now"
"then it's a good thing you are not the bad guy right?" she said back to be trying so hard to shake the fear and uneasiness in her voice and body away but it was still evident as day.
"I guess" I whispered again and stayed there for some seconds then stepped back and began to speak audibly. "you know for someone who was attacked at a wedding, you should be more cautious" I said to her.
"thank you, chief security officer," she said to me with so much sarcasm evident in each word. I chuckled.
"are you ready angry bird?" I asked.
"I just need to put my dress on" she said. And at that moment, she puts on a short purple dress and then her shoes. She tries to zip up her dress but isn't able to do that. She struggles to zip it up and still fails. I look at her and she looks back at me.
"I can do it by myself, I don't need your help" she said to me.
"I wasn't offering" I said to her. A few more tries and she still doesn't get it zipped. "if we are at least going to meet desert, we have to leave today" I said to her. She gave me a deadly look and I used my hand to indicate that I zipped my mouth. After many tries, she finally got it.
"yay. Now we are in time to pay the cab for his times wasted" I said to her.
"I thought you zipped your mouth" she said to me as we headed to the door and I opened it for her and then I kept quiet. As we left the room, I spoke up again.
"but for real though, you didn't even put any make up on but you're still late" I said to her.
"your lips are still closed, please shut up" she told me as we headed to the elevator.
"oh I already unzipped my mouth, don't be angry, angry bird" I said to her. And we continued to argue till we got to the hotel's restaurant. The hotel had two restaurant's, one inside and a nice, cool one outside. Luckily for us, the reservations were guarded jealously so they made very good effort to keep the seats till the night was over, plus we weren't all that late. We took our seats and then made our orders. At the time Snow was able to make known to me her poor taste in wine given the choice of wine she made.
"so what made you come out this evening?" I asked.
"this probably might be the only interesting thing that may happen to me all through this honeymoon so I want to at least have one truth to tell when I'm talking to Gwen" Snow answered.
"so what you are saying is that I'm interesting?" I asked.
"what I'm trying to say is that when I tell Gwen that I went out through out this honeymoon it won't be a lie because I actually went out" she said to me causing me to chuckle. The waiter came back with our orders and we began to dig in and the food turned out to be more delicious than expected.
The awkward silence followed us from the room, to the table and then to after the meal. It was only interrupted by the music that began to play. Getting frustrated, I stood up and Snow followed me with her eyes and a confused expression on her face.
"let's dance" I said to her.
"is that an invitation?" she asked me.
"an invitation to leave the world of silence, yes" I answered.
"that's a shitty invitation" she said to me.
"so it the world of silence. Now get up or be pulled up" I said to her, then she looked at me for some seconds before she got up. We walked to the dance floor in a manner that if we told someone right now we were couples they wouldn't believe.
"girl you need to relax" I said to her as started dancing.
"do I look 13 to you?" she asked me.
"sorry, woman, you need to relax, dancing is all about being…" I was saying but drifted off as I noticed something.
"Baxter" Snow called, her voice drawing me back to the present. I turned around with Snow in my arms, having her now face the direction I was just facing.
"3 o'clock, blue jeans, black shirt, 6'1. 6'o'clock, black trousers, white shirt, leather jacket, white face cap. Copy?" I asked her as I pointed out two people who I found suspicious.
"Copy" she said.
"they've been watching us since the hotel. And I'm very sure they are not vales" I said to her.
"not in those jeans" she said.
"would you like a distraction?" I asked her.
"Baxter?" she called with a change in her tone, like something had happened. She turned me around to face the direction she just faced and I saw the two suspicious men had started to walk to our direction and had their hands in their pockets like they were reaching for something, we both knew what it was and what was about to happen.
"alright, Snow ready on three" I said to her and she nodded her head. "1…2…3" I counted after taking a long pause counting 2. At 3 Snow and I took cover and already being made by those men the minute we turned around they began to shoot. The loud sound of the shot rang in my head and then a sudden flash came to my head. Before I could process what it was, I felt myself fall to the ground and at that point it came back.
I remembered.
