Chapter 16 - No Road is Perfect(3)

According to the novel, Ellendise rarely smiled and rarely showed signs of being happy or content. Often times, she was described as someone solitary who silently drowned in loneliness.

Neither being loved or wanting to love, the lonely Ellendise believed that as long as she was powerful, she wouldn't have to feel the judgmental eyes that followed her everywhere.

She wouldn't suffocate from all the harsh stares and careless opinions thrown away.

It was why the lonely Ellendise sought the crown prince's power in order to overcome the feeling of being weak.

Ellendise of the present felt sad for her character because she was one of the examples of a child who grew up without the love of a parent and where society moulded her into a person with tilted views. To the point that it was her own delusions that continuously made her afloat.

Ellendise's inferiority complex had clouded her own eyes and made her unable to see all her strong points.

The Ellendise now didn't understand why the author wrote Ellendise's story in such a sad way but it also reminded her that all villains have their own dark past.

Moreover, Ellendise was the only daughter of a count. She was also beautiful with her silver hair and reddish pink eyes. She was a person with wealth, power and fame.

Everything was almost readymade for her except for the love of her family. But Ellendise could've bounced back. She could've ignored them and chose to be happy but society was cruel and wasn't kind to a child.

The lonely Ellendise suffered a bleak failure. The good thing was that she was able to turn a new leaf and travel around the world. She might have found her happiness or she might have not. But it was a better ending than being exiled or executed.

It was truly a fitting element in a fluffy romance novel that was rated for the general public. It also greatly emphasized that redemption and atonement is not impossible.

You might have been walking the wrong path for one hundred days but it wasn't too late to turn around and choose the right one.

This was the reason why the woman 'Rianne Lustred' reread the novel a few times because of this heartfelt message.

It wasn't too late to turn around.

But she also knew that as long as there was a will, there was a way.

Ellendise calmly and confidently smiled. The smile on the lovely face of the ten year old girl was rather charming and she exuded an aura that made others want to stop and listen to what she wants to stay.

This sheer confidence couldn't have been mistaken for arrogance because Ellendise's every move was calculated and her eyes told them that how shockingly calm she was.

"I believe that it is inappropriate for everyone to continue remaining in the Viscountess' room. Aunt has only recently woke up. It would be best to give her some space and ask for a doctor to immediately check on her condition." Just on time, the Mierheart's family doctor entered while holding a suitcase.

Ellendise smiled further.

"What great timing. Isn't that right, sir?" She said towards the masked man in an innocent voice.

The masked man's lips curled upwards at her words.

"Yes.. what perfect timing." He said in a deep masculine tone.

At the doctor's arrival, everyone soon vacated the room. Valrug kept looking at Ellendise who was too calm about the situation.

"Uncle."Ellendise suddenly said, catching the Viscount's attention.

"I'm happy for you, Uncle. But I would also like to ask you to keep me out of this incident. I don't wish to attract attention from others. "

Her request was reasonable but somehow the Viscount found it amusing. It was uncommong for people of nobility not to take credit where their due is.

Viscount Rufus felt a profound respect for his little niece who not only befriended a fairy to help his wife but was also willing to exempt herself from this heroic deed.

"Instead of me, Uncle can give the credit to this gentleman here since it was his job in the first place. "Her gaze glanced over at the masked man who hadn't stopped staring at her since they left the room.

The Viscount tensed at her words and he unconsciously glanced at the man to ask for his opinion. Ellendise noticed this and was able to tell that this masked person was someone important since her uncle seemed subservient to him.

The masked person must've known what she was thinking because he advanced towards her and kneeled down, bringing her hand to his lips.

Ellendise nearly smacked the smug smile and pretended to hide her apprehension and disgust.

"Lady Ellen, it would be quite rude of me to take credit of someone else's hardwork. I seem to recall your maids saying that you paid an astronomical price at an alchemy shop? I feel ashamed for letting a lady suffer on my behalf so I would like to pay for the purchase. Of course, my lady herself would still be the one who had performed the heroic deed. Just think of it as me trying to make amends for my incompetence. " He said in a deceptively charming tone that would have made many females go crazy.

Ellendise only looked at him as if he was a stranger. The masked man wasn't affected by her indifferent gaze but she slowly pulled her hand away from his lips.

His words was indirectly telling her how she had interfered with his work and how she was pretending to be a good samaritan. And if she were to accept his money then it would make her a hypocrite. He even purposely emphasized the phrase 'paid an astronomical price' to test her.

Ellendise smiled.

"Thank you, sir. But I'm afraid I would have to refuse since it would be inappropriate for me to accept money from a complete stranger.. regardless if it is my Uncle's guest. And money isn't an issue. The important thing is that my aunt is awake. If sir could keep silent about my involvement then it would truly make me happy. "
