Chapter 4 - The First Step in Changing the Future (1)

"Mother, I'm not feeling well."

Countess Debora Vitron looked at her daughter with a worried look. The five-year-old girl with silver hair and red eyes was flushed red and swaying on her tiny little feet.

Her pink puffy cheeks filled with baby fat looked extremely adorable but her lips were pale and her clumsy hands were clumsier than before as she gripped her dress tightly.

The wrinkles formed immediately on the expensive blue fabric.

The countess kneeled down and placed a hand on her daughter's forehead. The sharp contrast of hotness and coldness thundered through her system.

She gasped.

"What's wrong, madam?" Butler June asked worriedly.

"Is the young lady sick?"

The countess looked very troubled.

"Butler June, tell the count that my daughter and I are unable to participate in the trip to the temple. And please call a doctor, immediately. My daughter is burning up. Come here, Ellendise." The countess brought the sick five-year-old into her arms and carried her.

It could be said that the five-year-old Ellendise was looking awfully pale. Butler June nodded with apprehension. Indeed, the young lady was very well and it looks much serious than a normal fever.

Butler June hurried to deliver the message to the count and called for a doctor with haste.

The five-year-old Ellendise was put to bed and given a change of clothes. The countess herself attended to her with the help of her maids.

"Mother, I'm sorry for making you worry."

The countess teared up and shook her head.

"My darling, you should have told me sooner if you felt unwell. "

"I didn't want to trouble you and Father."

The countess and all the maids felt their hearts ache upon hearing the young lady's words. Such a kind child was suffering because she didn't want to make trouble for her parents.

It was very touching.

Soon, the doctor came and hurriedly did a diagnosis and checkup on the five-year-old Ellendise.

"Fortunately, the young lady was able to receive immediate treatment. Otherwise, her condition would have worsened. Mana drain is no joke. There is no telling what kind of consequences would happen if she had not received proper treatment immediately. "Their family doctor, Klauss Riel explained. A middle aged man, tall with a good temperament.

The countess placed a hand on Ellendise's cheek, noticing that she was not as pale as before. She had also fallen asleep on the process.

"Doctor Klauss, you said mana drain just now. Are you sure?"

Klauss nodded. "Yes, Countess. I've seen countless of conditions like this. The young lady has in fact suffered from mana drain. This is often due to the excessive use of magic. Either the young lady has overused her magic or she has low magic capacity in the first place. I suggest consulting with a Mage Consultant to fully understand the young lady's condition. "

The countess nodded. "You are excused."

Klauss bowed his head and quietly exited the room.

Countess Debora stayed beside her daughter's side until she woke up during dinner.

"Darling, you're awake. You haven't eaten anything since morning so I asked the maids to bring you some mild soup for easy digestion." The smiling face of the countess is what greeted Ellendise when she woke up.

She was a little surprised to see the countess but she soon remembered that this beautiful woman was her mother and she seemed to have stayed to take care of her.

It meant that this woman would live and avoid her ill-fated death of being eaten by a monster.

Ellendise smiled.

"Thank you, mother. For taking care of me."

"You silly child. No need to thank me. I'm your mother. It is my duty to take care of my cute little daughter. " Ellendise was almost troubled at seeing the countess' motherly affection.

It had been two years old since she became aware that this woman was now her mother.

Countess Debora who was supposed to die today was alive because Ellendise forced her body to suffer a mana drain. The countess who doted on her children a lot naturally stayed behind to take care of her.

According to the novel, Countess Debora was supposed to sacrificed herself to save Ellendise during the monster attack at the temple. She died after being eaten by a monster while the genius Ellendise survived without being able to use her magic.

But in this lifetime, Ellendise saved the countess and she hid her affinity for magic.

In this life, Ellendise was known as a gentle and mild mannered child who loves to read books. The genius mage Ellendise was not known to anyone because she never showed anyone that she was capable of magic.

Only this day, did Ellendise forced a mana drain to save the countess.

However, it also revealed the fact that she had used magic. Ellendise inwardly smiled bitterly. For the future, sacrifices like this were necessary.

"Mother, I used magic for the first time today. "She said softly.

The countess' expression changed.

"I made a small fire appear on my hand but my chest suddenly felt stuffy. After that, I started to feel very hot. What did the doctor say?"

The five-year-old Ellendise spoke in a soft yet childlike tone. Her red almost pinkish eyes were like jewels. The chubby cheeks on her face made her look especially cute.

It was hard for an outsider to resist the urge to pinch her cheek.

The countess smiled softly at her and held her hand.

"Darling... The doctor said that your magic capacity is low at the moment. You used to much magic that was way beyond your body's capability. Promise your mother that you won't ever use magic until you're older, okay? You might suffer like this again and mother doesn't want that."

Ellendise didn't have any plans of following her mother's words but she still smiled and hugged her mother's arm, lying through her teeth.

"I will listen to mother."

Anything that made the woman happy, even if it was against Ellendise's wishes, she would try to fulfill it. Although it was wrong to deceive this kind woman, Ellendise was not going to stop learning magic and control it.

She needed it so she could live a happy life in this world.

And she needed it to ensure this woman's happiness.

Ellendise's only thoughts were a bit muddled.

'So this is a mother's love...'
