'Monica!' My best friend came running to me after school. I was at my locker getting my stuff to go home. It was a long day and all i wanted was to go home as soon as possible. I never hang around after school like most of the people here do.
'Hey Em, why are you running?'' I was confused because Emily never runs. 'You have to come to this party with me, it's Jason's' Emily always went to every party. We met on the first day of highschool, when I forgot my lunch at home. I was sitting under a tree by myself when Emily came by and sat with me, she offered me a sandwich. Soon after that we started hanging out and slept over at each other's houses. We are the complete opposite of each other.
'You know I don't like parties'. I said, I never go to parties but what I do like is reading books at home and watch Netflix in my pajamas. Emily sighed. 'It will be fun come on Mon, maybe we can get you a boyfriend' she started wiggling her eyebrows. I rolled my eyes and closed my locker.
'Just think about it please' she asked and gave me puppy eyes. She knows I can't say no to her puppy eyes. 'We can go back home whenever you want.' she really wants me to go. 'Fine, I'll think about it' I sighed. 'You won't regret it, I promise, I'll come to your house to get ready at 5' she smiled and walked away before I could say anything else. She always gets her way with the puppy eyes.
I really don't wanna go but i'll do it for Emily. I am sure a lot of people from school will also be there. That's why I don't want to go to that stupid party. I hate those people and they hate me. I wish this day could be over already. The party hasn't even started and I already feel nervous about it.
I left school and walked home, on my way out of school I bumped into someone. 'Excuse me?! What's wrong with you nerd?' There she was, the bitch of the school. Natalie is the most popular girl in the school, everyone looks up to her and every boy likes her. She and her little dogs Eva and Sarah rule the school. There was this one time where a girl wore the same shirt as her and she started bullying her until she changed schools. I chose to ignore her and continued walking home. I could hear her heels clicking away in the distance.
'I'm home!' I got no response so I walked into the garden. 'Oh you're home how was school, sweetie?' My mom asked. She was cleaning the pool and my dad was helping her. 'Boring like always' I said as I sat down on a chair and stared at the sky. My mom sat next to me. 'Emily wants me to go to a party tonight. Is it okay if I go' I asked. My mom's eyes widened 'of course! Finally you're gonna do something fun for once instead of studying in your room all night' she was really excited. I looked at my watch and saw that it was 4:30 pm already. 'Emily will be here soon can you tell her i'm in my room?' I asked. 'Sure sweetie i'll send her up' she said as she stood up and continued cleaning the pool with my dad. I went upstairs and started doing homework.
'I'M HERE' the door opened and Emily walked in with her bags. She stared at my homework and rolled her eyes. 'Monica, you know it's Friday right?' Em asked. 'Yes Em I know but I wanted to finish my homework before the party' I said. 'Okay so help me out what should i wear?' I helped Em get ready, she wore a black dress and I curled her hair. She put on all sorts of make up I didn't even know existed. After 2 hours she was finally ready.
'What are you gonna wear' Emily asked, she was looking through my closet. 'Um what i'm wearing now.' I said as I pointed to my outfit. I was wearing blue jeans and a white sweatshirt with butterflies on the sleeves. 'Mon, it's a party not school. At least wear a dress.' She said. 'If you want me to go you have to let me wear this.' I said and Em sighed loudly 'fine i'm already happy you're finally coming to a party for the first time.' she said. We took some pictures until we had to go, more like I took pictures of Emily because I don't like pictures.
We left at 8 and walked to Jason's house, it was only a 10 minute walk. When we arrived there were people everywhere. Some people waved at Emily and ignored me, as always. We walked in the house, it was huge. There was a beer pong table with people around it screaming. Emily nudged me 'Look who is there' she pointed to Jason. He was talking to one of his best friends but he wasn't listening, when he saw that he was on his phone he slapped him and walked away. Some girls saw it and started to laugh at the guy. He smiled at them but they walked away immediately.
When Jason saw Emily he made his way over to us. I didn't really know him but I knew that these two had a thing for each other. Emily started playing with her hair and acted like she didn't see him. I hate it when she acts like this. 'Hey Em and uh what was your name again?' he said. ´This is Monica, my best friend.´ Emily said. 'Oh right I forgot, nice to meet you Monica, so do you like the party' he was looking at Emily and ignored me. ´Of course she likes it.' Emily smiled at him. And this is one of the many reasons why I didn't want to come. I stand awkwardly watching them flirt with each other. 'Hey Monica there are drinks in the kitchen, if you want you can get some. I also have water or juice or something.´ Jason awkwardly scratches his head. I nodded and walked away without saying anything. I could see Em and Jason talking when I left, I feel like I was the reason why it was awkward.
I didn't know where I was going, there were a lot of rooms filled with people. Everyone looked at me like I was an escaped animal. This house was really huge. I was walking into different rooms until I saw a door that led to the garden. There was a big pool where people were swimming. A couple was making out in the jacuzzi. I sighed and turned around to walk back. But instead I walked into something hard, or should I say someone. I looked up and saw the most popular guy of the school, Natalie's boyfriend Justin.
He looked confused at me. ´What the fuck are you doing here nerd, shouldn't you be studying for next year or something?'he said as I heard some people laugh. 'I- uh.´ I didn't know what to say. He was right. What am I doing here? 'Hey babe what's wrong?' Natalie came to his side and kissed him. When she saw me she started glaring at me. 'If you're looking for the library you're at the wrong place honey.' Natalie looked at my outfit and started laughing like a hyena. Justin smirked.
'There you are Mon I was looking for you.' Emily appeared with two cups and looked at Natalie and Justin. Justin and Natalie both looked at her. Emily and Natalie used to be friends in kindergarten. But when Natalie became mean and popular she stabbed Emily in the leg back. Justin came closer to my ear and whispered. ´You should go back home, this is not a place for you, got it?'
Emily grabbed my arm and dragged me inside. 'Who do they think they are, talking to you like that. Just because they are popular doesn't mean they have to treat other people like they are any less than them.' Em angrily said. I know it still hurts her to see what happened to her old friend. 'Come with me and don't say a word until I'm done.' she said. We walked upstairs and into a room. ´Em, why are we-´ 'Just trust me Mon, I have to get something wait here.' Em walked in another room and came back 2 minutes later. 'No way Em!' I said as I stared at what she got from the other room.
