Chereads / Reincarnated As a Warlord / Chapter 4 - 4 Second chances

Chapter 4 - 4 Second chances

The chance to see his parents again? Haruto would take this chance to make himself worthy of them.

"How would it work?" he asked, curiosity mingling with hope.

Priscilla looked at her brother. "You died as expected in my realm, though your relatives' interference was a bit of a surprise. However, it was in Dimitri's realm that your death was unexpected."

Dimitri got up and stood, looking into the distance. "Let me be frank. You are actually quite insignificant. But something has happened on one of my worlds. Anomalies, if you will. I can sense them but can't see what they are. Therein lies the anomaly and the loophole. I can't directly go there to investigate, so that's going to be your job. It's also how we are able to pull this off. By you dying in my realm before your time and coincidentally dying in Priscilla's, we're able to reincarnate you. But she's the only one who was able to retrieve your life force; I couldn't. So don't consider yourself special."

Haruto listened intently. He was onboard until the last line. 'Gee, way to lay it out easily. You could've said that a bit nicer,' Haruto thought.

Priscilla glared at Dimitri, who shrugged and quickly chimed in. "We do need you to do this. If you agree, you will retain all memories of your previous life and also see your parents again. Is that not the reason you were going to kill yourself to begin with? But you can also say no, and your death will be definite. The fate of a world left up to chance. Your choice."

Haruto was already going to do it. The last few months, he had lived without purpose and was like a tumbleweed blowing in the wind. But now he actually had a goal.

Dimitri nodded. "Good. Glad to see you aren't completely worthless. A couple things you should know. The world you're going to is ripe with magic. You will experience things you've never thought possible, so tread carefully. Although the world is similar, it is also different. Cities can be the size of counties in your world. Countries the size of continents. It is about three times the size of your world. Also know that by you being a reincarnate, you will have the ability to speak with us. But do not do this unless there's something of significance to report. You aren't supposed to be there, and if you open the path too long, the celestial fiends will know you don't belong and have access to you. We cannot guide you. Every choice and decision will be yours to make. So will be the consequences. If you die there, you are on your own. There won't be another chance."

Haruto was visibly nervous about what he was about to encounter. He had read fantasy novels and never really considered magic a thing. He had so many questions, but as they said, they had little time. He could only expect to ready himself for what he might encounter and hope for the best.

"Anything else I should know?" he asked.

Dimitri thought about it. "Oh right, technology there is far more advanced than in your world. You'll see many devices empowered by magic. So take this." Out of nowhere, a small, square black box materialized in his hand. He then tossed it to Haruto.

Haruto looked at the box and wondered what could be in it.

"It's a dimensional storage box. It has an almost infinite amount of space. I've taken the liberty to pre-add items: some health potions, a transponder band, and a stealth cloak."

"Isn't this the definition of intervening?" Haruto asked, puzzled.

Dimitri shook his head. "You aren't in any world, so it's okay. I am not breaking rules as you technically do not exist. I've also added a magic awakening stone. It contains a specific power. What power? I don't know. You'll have to figure it out. Just don't destroy anything if it turns out to be too overpowered. Also, don't use it until you're there."

Haruto thought to himself. "Isn't that a bit irresponsible?"

Priscilla smiled gently. "Welcome to the reality of celestial politics, Haruto. Sometimes, rules bend in the face of necessity."
