Chapter 10 - The Queen’s Pregnancy

Queen Sophie felt sad because she couldn't conceive and bare a son.

She prayed to the Lord day and night for a miracle to occur.

Five years later, the Queen finally became pregnant with her first child. It was a great blessing for the family, and a big happiness in the entire country of Turon, that were overjoyed by the good news of the Royal couple.

An elaborate service was held by the Church, where they asked God for his blessing for the birth. After the service and the prayers from the clergy, the Queen went into her private room, and recited religious prayers and chants to help her throughout the birthing process. The faith and belief that Sophie had in her, helped the Queen psychologically to deal with her fear and worries over child-birth.

Turon was a devout Catholic nation. Religion and faith were part of everyday life and closely entwined with the act of childbirth. The pain associated with labour and childbirth was thought to be due to Eve's fall in the Garden of Eden. Her original sin meant that all women were to suffer great pain. Many women turned to religion to provide them with the support and relief they greatly desired. There was also the strong possibility that a mother in labour could die, so religion and faith played a hugely important role within the role of childbirth.

Sophie and Arthur went to North-Bell, where they wanted the birth to take place. The Royal couple stayed at the mansion.

The birth chamber was prepared, as was the nursery with a beautifully carved cradle, and a midwife who had a great deal of experience and knowledge in delivering babies was hired to help the Queen in her labour.

The King accompanied her at childbirth, when they welcomed their firstborn child.

"It's the sweetest and most beautiful baby girl I have ever seen".

Declared proudly father King Arthur at the arrival of his first and only daughter, Amelia Seymour.
