I dreamt of someone crying over me.
..
Odd. Who would cry over me?
..
Huh..?
..
But no matter I woke up to the sound of the door being busted open.
"Excuse me, is this the home of Garlinda Mousse?" A stern and icy voice rang out through the darkly lit living room.
The embers of the fireplace cackled while I broke out in a nervous sweat. Frozen from my spot I stared at the man that stood before me.
I made sure to lock the door but why was it easily busted in? I sense danger and observe the man.
He is tall, has a mascular build and wild brown hair and beard, and a stern blue gaze. He wears armour in the likes of a knight as well as he as an insignia.
I relaxed a bit, only a bit, he was a knight from what I could tell, probably a noble, but he isn't a thief nor am I the prime target so I was able to let out a sigh of relief. I kept my guard up though.
"She went out." I answered quietly, my voice devoid of any emotion as I just stated a fact.
I neither denied or confirmed that this is that woman's house. Mother's house.
From my reply, the man drew his gaze to me. His face shows a frown and his eyes grew even more stern.
"Who are you?"
Before I could give him an answer I heard a bunch of armored steps closing in, and I see more knights behind him.
"Captain!" One of the new arrival knights called.
So this stern guy is their captain. This is quite bad. I wonder if my mother offended anyone to cause a captain to go through this poor town just to get her.
Dear mother why..
Bemoaning inside of my head of possibilities and preparing myself for anything I turned my attention again to the knights.
"Captain.. This..?!" The same knight said while looking at me.
Ohoho, what's with that expression? First time you've seen a child before?
"I was about to found out before you guys decided to interrupt!" The captain scolded the other knight with an annoyed tone and returned his gaze to me.
Hey old man, if you stare at a kid that hard you might scare them off alright?
"... I'm her daughter.."
I clenched my fist and stared fiercely at the Captain. Just proclaiming, affirming, that I'm that woman's daughter is apalling. I could call her mother but I do not wish to be called her daughter.
I kept my gaze steady and calmly faced on the Captain.
The sight of a poor child looking at him fiercely seems to amuse him as he let out a loud laugh suddenly.
The sound caused me to even be more confused.
He coughed and looked at me again, a little bit softer now.
"I see that you take after your Father Young Miss."
Young Miss? Also Father? What do you mean? I've never heard such a man.
Hmm. Should I make a run for it? Pfft, like I could manage to outrun the empire's knight with my weak malnourished body.
Young miss in rags? I would have burst into laughter if I wasn't so scared they'll turn me into a kebab if I as much show any disrespect.
Father..such an unfamiliar concept to me. In my past life, and also in this life.
I contemplated, eventhough I know I did not have much of a choice. What should I choose? Controlled abuse, that I'm used to? Or a possible gambling for a sliver of gold?
It's not like I have much too lose. So let's see.
