Synopsis
“We arrived at the hospital 30 minutes later. My doctor was on the way since we called while in traffic. After answering a slew of questions, I change into a hospital gown and wait for the ultrasound technician. Sean is on my left, holding my hand. Forty-five minutes later, a brown-skinned young lady with kind eyes walked into my room with a wheelchair. I know the process, so I got up before she asked and settled into it. I looked at Sean and he gave me a reassuring smile. I smiled too. “I'll be right back.”

Chapter 1 - “If It's Meant To Be”

Chapter 1 - Kat

I'm pregnant. I'm fucking pregnant.

Sean yells from downstairs and I assume he just won his NBA 2K18 career game. He comes bounding up the steps and bursts into the bedroom.

"I did it, boo. I won the championship."

I smile brightly. "Congrats, baby."

Sean's smile disappears and concern replaces his cocky expression. He sits down on our bed next me.

"What's wrong, Kat? You okay?"

I stare into Sean's light brown eyes. His caramel complexion still shines with excitement. He hasn't shaved for a few days and he's looking real daddy-ish right about now.

"I'm fine, babe. Just pregnant." I try to read his expression. My eyes searching his face.

"Aw boo." He grabs my shoulders and starts massaging. "Scared, huh?"

"Yeah. You think we should keep it?" I asked. His hands stopped.

"Why wouldn't we keep it?"

"Sean. This is our fifth pregnancy and we have no kids to show for the other ones. I'm starting to feel like I wasn't meant to have kids."

There...I said it. I try to use peripheral vision to read Sean's reaction but his body language says enough.

"What?!" Sean yells. He's mad mad. He jumps up from the bed and starts to pace.

I explain. "Okay, listen, babe. All I'm saying is, we've tried and the farthest we've gotten is four months! I'm scared and I don't want to force something that may not be meant for me!"

Sean stops pacing and looks at me. "I'm not trying to tell you what to do, boo, but maybe you just need a different doctor."

I look at him skeptically. "So, you think it's the doctors who have it wrong?"

Sean walks across the room and grabs my hands. "Kat, I'm happy and you said you feel fine. Can we talk about this after we confirm with the doctor?"

We. I love it when he does that.
