"Yes, you will from now on. Work here!" "Why? Why do I have to work here?" "Simple! I teach you magic, you pay my fee by working!" "Are you insane?" With Jack confused by Morgan's sudden change in personality, Morgan follows up with "Listen, it may seem like a lot. In all honesty, you are very weird person. Your clothes and hair-" "Whats wrong with my hair?" Morgan paused "Nothing" Jack was still on the fence about his intentions but there was food infront of him so he clarifies a few more things with him "So, why do you want to do this?" "Hmm, well you're probably not going to be great practice but I want to be a teacher!" "With your attitude? Sure, why not?" "I know I'm very harsh but it's for the better" "Harsh? You ride the line between being mean and being an oblivious jackass, I don't know if you've noticed but you're whole personality is egotistical. By design you are a good example of the word asshole" Morgan was at a loss for words but he could muster up the courage to ask "Is- is this, true? Am I that much of a problem? No, I can't possibly be. All my intentions are to help, people just can't handle constructive criticism." "Morgan, you were suspended for stepping beyond the borders of disrespecting a teacher during class hours" "Well... I'm not changing, despite your comments. This is the only way to get through to people, No one wants half-assed opinions because all that does is hinder actual progress. What we instead substitute said progress for is a fake version of it, just giving the illusion that you are moving forward. By the time you realise it, it is too late... " Jack sat in silence as he let Morgan's words sink in sure he could have said something about it but he didn't, any reasonable and sensible person wouldn't push an uncomfortable topic on the unwilling
"You have your reasons. I have mine, maybe we can find something in common?" Morgan looks up at Jack holding his hand out. Morgan shakes Jack's hand and the two finally eat. "So when do I start?" "Right Now, until sundown. Days off are every 2 days so we can restock a bit" "Uh now?"
After the two stop eating Morgan shows Jack around the restaurant "Simple Kitchen, you have your stone ovens, your wood and my personal favorite, Rum!" "Rum?" "Yeah rum, why? Haven't you had some yet?" "Isn't there a law against young people drinking?" "Well we have clean water from the lake but there are no laws that say kids can't drink" Jack thinks this world is a lot more loose than his, then he thinks back and realizes "This is nothing like earth" "What was that?" "Nothing!" "Okay? Uh my sister and I run the place, it's a bit small compared to other restaurants but we have better food, you can thank my sister for that" He goes on for a few more minutes until he finally stops and asks Jack "So?" "So, What?" "Are you good now? Any questions?" "None that I can think of" "Perfect! Molly, get this man some clothes from the closet! Sorry, but we can't have you wearing... Well that. I don't even know where you got, that?" Jack's clothes were a little jarring to Morgan as it looked like a weird mix between the city he knew and elven sewing styles " I have to ask, where are you from?"
Jack doesn't answer him, instead he tell Morgan that he comes from somewhere far. Jack gets the new clothes from Molly and tries them on. He looks in the mirror and was surprised to find a very dashing looking man "This actually works" Knock* knock* "Hey! How's it coming along?" "This looks great!" It's just a normal shirt but it felt pleasing to wear, soft and thin, it was perfect for working in. It was thin enough to let a chill breeze flow through while also not being too loose
"Thanks, I always loved sewing new clothes. It keeps me busy while I'm- well, busy. You should really get going now." "What about you?" Jack asked "I have school tomorrow, the other chef is working today" confused, Jack asked why didn't Morgan mention this other chef "I don't think Morgan told me there was another chef, who are they?" "His names Sal, he'll keep you on your toes sometimes but it's nice to know he has everything under control" "Okay? Well I guess I'll go now, see ya Molly"
Jack heads down stairs to the front of the small dining room. While he wasn't paying attention he bumps into a large man "OH, I'm sorry sir!" The man turned around and looked down to see Jack "Oi, sorry didn't see you there little fella" Jack picked himself up and immediately thought of getting to work "Let me just see if I can find you a good seat" "What? Oh na I'm no' a customer, the name is Sal and its my shift" Jack quickly stopped looking for seats as he turns to Sal "You're Sal!? I'm so sorry" "No dan't wurry about it, You technically aren't the first, so all's well" The two quickly get to talking and they hit it off, they head off to their stations and "Alright Sal! Let's see if you're as good as you say" "Don't be testing me ya poser, I'll show ya! Haha!"
After what seemed to be a good day of serving food Jack comes across a dilemma "What do you mean you got nowhere to go?" "It's nothing Sal, just forget about it I'll find a way" "If ya trying to act all tuff, it doesn't suit ya. It doesn't at all, so I have a suggestion there's a place close by that you could stay in. I'll even lend you some money if you need it" "I don't know Sal" Jack didn't want to take advantage of Sal's kindness so he just waives him off "Sorry Sal, No can do. I'll be fine don't worry" Sal wasn't convinced but there was no changing Jack's mind so he just gives him one thing "This is a beacon" "It's tiny" "It's a beacon Jack, it gives a small magic pulse if you're near the location it's set to. If you ever need anythin, you come to me first. I've seen countless people like you wandering around" "Homeless people?" "No, Lost people. You're pride simply too great to ask for help or sometimes just too afraid to take it. I remember back when I was really small, I was almost too prideful, I had a dream of becoming one of the first to master flame magic, I ended up burning my back in a horrible accident, still my ego didn't- No, I didn't want ask for help, until someone told me that no matter what, no matter how much I try, I will never achieve my dream if I couldn't let go of that willful arrogance" "So did you do it? Did you get to be the first "Master of Flames"" "No, I just cook now! Haha!" Jack paused for a moment "It seems Jack, I still have a lot to learn myself. So I'm hoping one day, that you'll learn my lesson earlier than me"
Jack nodded and took the beacon from Sal as he exits the restaurant hoping to find... A new home
