Bang!
A single shot echoed in the once silent surroundings.
The young Kristofer was sitting in a corner, hugging his knees to his chest. He wanted to sob, but because of his fear; he stopped the tears from coming, suppressing the audible hiccups he would have if he had allowed himself to cry.
Chills crept through his skin. The metal box provided little protection from the frosty night air from outside.
After being stuck inside the small space, he heard the lock getting unlatched. However, instead of relief, Kristofer panicked.
Out of his nervousness, he only thought to do one thing.
Dropping himself flat on the surface, he pretended to be asleep, forcing his eyes to close and calm his trembling hands.
Hearing the metal door creak open, Kristofer braced himself. Muffled voices came through and suddenly, muscular hands hauled him up.
