Chapter 18 - My Time Has Come

That was why they took their steps cautiously and peeked before they advanced. They were gradually nearing the door which would lead them outside. Their hope was to run out of school.

"We should be okay as long as we are together, Reinfeld." Elsie said as she held him tightly. He grabbed her hand and squeezed it reassuringly.

"Of course we will be best friends forever, Elsie." He said and started to walk even faster. Just as they got there they realized that they had made a very big mistake by taking that way. Reinfeld began to shake as he held her tightly. He was so scared. There were more than fifty of the already infected people coming towards them. She tried to lead him so that they would run through the door and lock it immediately but he wasn't moving.

He stood there shivering like a baby. Elsie could not understand why a boy like him would behave that way, someone who would bully other students at times. He grabbed her tightly until they got close finally. They grabbed him and began to draw him toward them. He fell down and clutched at her trying to drag her along with him.

"N-no save me. Save me Reinfeld." He screamed as he was being dragged away. She tried to save him by dragging him with her but it was too late. Many of them were already holding him. She lost all hope when one of them finally bent down and bit him. She knew what would happen soon after so she flailed her arms for him to leave her alone. He had brought his own doom and he was going to die for it.

"Let go!" She scolded him while trying to make him leave her. Yet he was persistent, did he also want her to die with him? She thought before trying to pull away with all her strength. Reinfeld still held tightly to her hand and cried for her to help. He cried out again when he got bitten again. There was no hope now, he was going to become one of them soon after.

"I said, let go." She said and kicked him in the face. He screamed and cursed as he finally let go of her hand.

"They're here too. This isn't happening." She said as she staggered back and took off immediately. She couldn't believe what was happening but she had to. She had to believe it, otherwise she would die. She turned and ran for her life, panting as she ran faster. Just then she heard her friend groan before he let out a final yell.

"Aaargh!" That was his last before he began to growl. Elena ran down the passageway by her right and soon found a door in which she got in, without making the least noise. She nearly jumped up in fear when she saw two students there. They were hiding, and were happy to see her when she got in. But they ran back to their hiding place almost immediately to make sure they didn't raise any suspicion.

"It's them. They infect you with some kind of disease. Them?" Klaus muttered as he lay down there. The bite was beginning to have its effects on him and he was beginning to see things and say things that he was not away. It felt like reality was snapping away from him as he lay down there. He felt his hand and the rest of body beginning to get weak. And no matter how he tried to mutter the strength on his body it simply wouldn't. He was so terrified.

He didn't know what he would do and he did not want to relay what was happening to him to his friends who were there with him. If they heard it they would get scared, and that was something he didn't want to do. He didn't want to scare them and that was why he kept quiet and fought with what was troubling him at that moment. He was very scared and at the same time he was suffering. His breathing soon got ragged as he lay down there. Selena walked towards him and asked him if he was OK.

He managed to flash her a smile and told her that nothing was wrong. Reassured ,she leaned back and sat down to think. She touched her pocket to take out her phone but she was shocked as he felt nothing. Sue looked down at her skirt and was very shocked with what was happening. That wasn't possible, how could her phone have fallen when she kept it secured. She remembered zipping it as soon as she was done calling. There was the secret zip within her skirt where she kept her phone whenever she came to school. Her father had asked her to always carry her phone with her so that she could call him whenever she was I'm trouble or if she needed help.

Thankfully, the phone had helped her almost all the time. And she was grateful for each and every one of those times. Now she had lost it, her only hope and source of communication. She looked around, her heart leaped as she kept gazing into the facade. She was scared as a shudder ran down her spine. She couldn't cry now, since it would cause them more problems and Shiro had already warned due to crying since it would only bring the walking dead closer to them.

They didn't hunt their Prey by seeing them but by sound. Shiro told them that when he saw the colour of their eyes. He saw how they changed to white whenever they woke up dead. They would go around, grunting and muttering incoherent words that he couldn't understand. She didn't know how to tell Shiro that she had lost her phone, he was just going to get mad at her and she was not going to like it. She was not prepared for him to do something like that. They needed to be at peace with each other so that they would not attract these dead beings that walked around.
