Dedicated to Rokaia and my English teacher Mr. I. O'Brian. :)
"Get up! Get up now boy! I want my breakfast before I'm seventy!" Bellowed Uncle Norby. Uncle Markson Norby was a rather plump man who had dark brown hair with clumps of grey and white within it. He was businessman who sold scissors, and surprisingly he liked his job. But Aunt Maraca Norby on the other hand, was very skinny and looked like she hadn't eaten for days. She had a long, crooked nose and had light brown hair, and when Jake would need clothes she would rip and dye Tommy's old clothes, she would often say that he was a waste of space and money. Tommy was a spitting image of his farther but not in a good way. He, at the school that Jake and he attended, was the school bully. It seemed as if even the teachers were scared of him. And apparently 'play' in Tommy's mind meant 'beat up people'. His right-hand guy was Billy, who was the one who held people's hands behind their backs whilst Tommy hurt them, he usually aimed for Jake who was quite used to this now. Jake looked rather young and skinny for his age, although he looked fourteen he was fifteen was turning sixteen soon. He had amazing brown hair that could just seem to never be tamed. He also had spellbinding brown eyes. Together the entire family lived in house addressed: 8 Sadle drive.
"Dad! Dad! Have you packed my lunch for my school trip? Asked Tommy. "No, but Jake will do it for you," replied Uncle Norby. "Won't you Jake!" "Huh? Oh right, yeah I'll do it." yawned Jack. He hadn't slept very well that night. Tommy and he were supposed to be going to a professional science lab. The bus came and then they arrived at the lab.
"Now if you follow me we will arrive at the department of hazardous gases," said the guide, "Keep your safety mask and suites on at all times as some of the gases in here can be fatal to the body." They walked over to a room with at least a dozen doors you had to open before entering. They finally reached the heart of the room. "Everybody please evacuate the building. There has been a chemical leak. Those who breath in the chemical have a three out of a thousand chance of surviving. Leave all belongings in the building." Announced the speaker. "Oh no!" there was a rip in Jake's mask. He started to feel a bit dizzy and sick. "Err, Miss I feel a bit-" THUD. All went black.
"Jake." He could hear someone but didn't know who. "Jake! Jake! Wake up!" it was his teacher Miss McGee. He was no longer in the lab but seemed to be lying down outside on the floor. "What happened? How did I get here?" he questioned. "We don't really know what happened. I don't want to worry you, but you did pass out. The E.C.D or the effects of chemicals department won't tell us what will happen to the people who have survived the chemical, all they said is that we won't be seeing them again, but the point is, are you okay?" explained Miss McGee. Jake was now terrified. His mask had a rip in it. Should he tell them and get taken away to who knows where or keep it to himself and find out what was going to happen to him. "I'm good thanks." Just saying this made him feel very uncomfortable as he had never lied in his entire life.
After the incident they went straight home. "Oh! Tommy Tums! Are you okay? Are you hurt? I saw what happened on the news!" said Aunt Maraca as she examined his body for any scratches. "Stop mum! I'm fine! But the funniest thing happened to Jake- he fainted!" laughed Tommy uncontrollably. "Yes, that is quite funny isn't it dear." her mouth was smiling but her eyes filled with fury, she was obviously embarrassed. "Can I please go to my room? I don't feel that good. Your better of leaving me alone in my room away from the rest of you." Said Jake. He wanted to stay far away from the rest, just in case it was contagious or something. "Alright but any funny business, any at all and you won't have a room to hide in." Stormed Aunt Maraca. He had never seen her looked so embarrassed let alone angry in his entire life. Jake ran to his room and locked the door. "I think I'm gonna get some sleep." Drowsed Jake.
He woke. His door slammed open; it was Tommy. He was holding something in his hand- it was a book. Jake new exactly what was coming. He was going to throw it at him. "Tommy not now. I'm really not in the mood." "So what? I don't care whether you're in the mood or not!" he shouted. He threw the book, but the most amazing thing happened. When he threw the book, Jake flipped just narrowly missing the book. "WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS THAT??!!!" screeched Tommy. He was now outraged that he missed Jake, but he was also majorly impressed. "Guess it's just a talent I developed?" he said unsure what else to say. Tommy stormed off. Since when have I been able to do that?! thought Jake to himself. "Okay so I now know what the chemical does... What if can do more? I should probably tell someone about this. God I need to make a friend. Okay new day tomorrow. New start."
He walked up too many random people in his school, but none were worthy of keeping a secrete so big. "Leave me alone!!!" said a voice. It was a boy round about Jakes age. He was being harassed by Tommy and his friends. He had brown hair and obviously needed help. "Leave him alone," commanded Jake with a firm voice, "If you gonna fight anyone fight me! Or are you too scared to keep your so-called chiselled face?" Tommy was now filled with anger. He looked like a bull ."Your gonna regret being born Coop!!" Stormed Tommy with outrage. Jake felt more confident than usual. "Umm? Am I? Well if you' re so sure prove it." He said confidently. Just as Tommy was throwing a punch Jake grabbed him and threw him on the ground. "Ooo! Close! Give up yet? I really don't want to hurt you." Everyone was now watching them. "JAKE! What do you think you are doing?!" Stormed a familiar voice. It was Miss McGee. "Miss, you didn't see the whole picture he—" "I don't care what he did! We do not you physical contact in this school! You're suspended Mr. Coop! I'm calling your guardians!" He had never seen her so angry before. She took Tommy in. "Hi, I just want to say thanks." It was the same boy who he stopped being hurt by Tommy and Billy. "No problem. Just doing something kind." He said with a gloomy voice. Could this be the friend that he had been looking for? "I've never seen anyone stand up to him before! You said: If your gonna fight anyone fight me. I gotta say that was pretty balsy. Mike. Mike Miller." He put his hand out for a handshake. "Jake Coop. I've got one question for you. Can you keep secretes?" He asked. "Secretes? Yeah. I can keep secretes. Why?" He replied with absolutely no idea what was going on. "Just meet me in the ally." Everything seemed awkward. "Erm. Okay. This is a sorta weird way of making a friend." He said slowly and unsure. "This is serious. Nobody can find out about this."
The time came. The time when he would confess his secrete. Mike waited patiently for Jake to come wondering what secrete was so important it kept him from going home. Eventually Jake reached the ally. "Good you came, I was starting to think this was a trick or a joke." Admitted Mike. He seemed nervous as if he too didn't have a friend before. "Okay this is new to me to, so don't freak out, and like I said before do not tell anybody." Mike nodded knowing this would be the biggest thing he has ever heard. "Okay, so you know the science lab that we went to?" Mike nodded. "Well... Okay so when the chemical leak happened my mask had a rip in it, and as you can see I'm not dead and weird things are happening to me. Like... Umm.. try and through a punch at me. I won't hurt you back." Explained Jake. Mike was in absolute shock. "WHAT?! I'm not going try and punch you! You're my friend! Exclaimed Mike with horror. "Just do it I'll be okay." Assured Jake. Mike threw his punch and the same thing that happened to Tommy and the book happened again. Mike tried again but failed. "Wow! So cool! Is that all you wanted to show me?" asked Mike. Jake had no idea what to say as what he wanted to tell him hadn't been said. "Not really. I wanted to make a friend who I could trust to keep this a secret. I am not sure if this is all I can do, but if I can do more I would like someone to share it with." Explained Jake. They'd then became best friends and would tell each other everything; they were inseparable.
"Hey Jake, you wanna come over to my house?" asked Mike on the phone. "Sure! I've got some homework to finish then I will be there! Replied Jake. After an hour he went to his friend's house. "Anything new happened yet?" questioned Mike whilst eating his sandwich. "Yeah. And this one is really big!" said Jake excitedly, "I can climb the walls, ceiling and everything!" Mike's face was quit hilarious when he found out about the news. "Boys! I've made dinner! When do you want to eat?!" asked a female voice who was Mike's mum. "N-not not now mum! Just give us ten and we will be down. We just need to talk about something that is happening in school!" lied Mike. "First super strength and super sense then this! Can you show me?" said Mike. "Sure." Responded Jake. Within five seconds he was on the ceiling. "I've not really practiced this one so I might- OW!" he fell onto the floor with a big 'BANG!'. "Boys! Are you okay?! What happened!" queried Mike's mum with fright. "Erm... Nothing! Nothing!" they both said quickly. "I haven't eaten all day I think we should eat. Your mum's food is what is practically keeping me alive." Said Jake hungrily. They ate and then Jake left to go home.
They arrived at school early so decided they were going to talk for a bit. "You know what Jake. You could be like really rich or something if you tell everyone. Or you could be a superhero!" suggested Mike with joy and delight. "Me? A superhero? You know that could actually work! Well if I'm going to be that I'm gonna need a name and a suit." Said Jake smiling the whole way through. "How about we call you 'laser bee'! what no that sounds weird what about... 'stranger-man' no. What about 'killer'—No, no—" said Mike. "How about 'Night-hawk' I like that." Mike was nodding wildly, "I'm gonna guess you like that too." Laughed Jake.
"I've made the suit, and I gotta say it looks pretty good!" said Jake whilst putting it on. The suit was as black as black gets, it had blue eyes and fire patterns all over. "Oh my gosh you look so cool!" exclaimed Mike with excitement. "Thanks." He looked out of the window and saw police cars, "I think my first mission has come knocking on the door! I'll be back in a few! Bye!" said Jake as he climbed out of the window. He took a brave leap and started to fly. "Woooohoooooo!!!!!!" he bawled as he was following the police. He stood in front of the police car and put his hand out. "Move away from the vehicle immediately." Said a large speaker from the police car. "Extremally sorry but before you move can you tell me where you are headed?" asked Jake. The police were not very happy that they were being stopped. "We are headed 10 Sadle Drive there has been a fire, now if you don't move we will open fire." Stormed the leader of the police. That's only two blocks from where I live! I need to get there and fast. Thought Jake. "Okay, there is no point of going I'll get there you don't need to, go home!" said Jake. "Do you think we are going to leave the lives of four people in the hands of a masked stranger without proper training?" raged the police, "Who are you?" "Call me Night- hawk. And I'm here to do the same job as you but more affective and quicker. Now you can go there but I would of beat you to it." This was obviously a mistake of a sentence because they started driving.
He then went to the house that was on fire. "HELLO? CAN ANYBODY HEAR ME?." He said whilst coughing continuously. He found four people stuck in a room- trapped. "Oh my! I'm, gonna get you out of here okay? Put this cloth over our mouths, it will keep the air that you breath clean. Erm... hold on to me." And with a snap of his fingers they were outside. "Is everyone okay?" the police arrived, and they were shocked. "How did you—" stammered the police unable to explain what had happened. "Sorry can't talk right now. I've gotta go and get myself some help." He said with burns all over him. The police were not happy. "Put up wanted posters. This guy can't go doing these things." Demanded the leader of the police after he left.
Jake knocked on the window so that Mike would let him in. "Come i--Oh my gosh we need to get you to the hospital! Now! Mum!!!!!!" yelled Mike frightened what was going to happen to his friend. "What is wro— Oh my! What happened? How did this happen? I don't understand what--" she was scared. "Not now mum! Call an ambulance! We don't have much time!" There was a loud 'THUD' then all went black.
There where red and blue lights everywhere. There was lodes of shouting; one voice he could make out. "Jake. It's going to be okay, just hang on." It was Mike. Then he entered a building it was all white and blue. He tried to keep his eyes open for as long as he could, but then he couldn't. The loud voices kept on shouting people to move out of the way. "Okay make sure that he's asleep!" directed a voice.
He woke. He was in a room but not his own room. "Where am I? How did I g-" "Jake! You're awake! As soon as you, well, collapsed we took you to the hospital immediately. You are so lucky to be alive. Oh, also the doctors want to ask you a few questions, if that is alright with you. I told them that you prob—" "It's okay Mike. I can answer those questions. Just as long as they didn't find anything weird going on with my body or anything, I'm gonna be okay." Just second after he said that, at least a dozen doctors came rushing in caring tons of paper. "So, we have just got a few questions for you," Jake thought by few they meant a hundred. So, he just nodded, "Are you allergic to anything?" asked the doctor nearest to him. "No, not anything I know of at least." Answered Jake. "Hmmm... very interesting." Jake was extremely uncomfortable with what was happening. "I'm sorry, but what is interesting?" he asked. "Uniquely your body has seemed to produce something that has allowed you to self-heal but quicker than any normal human." So, this is what happens to the people who breath in the chemical. "I'm ever so sorry but I mustn't stay here I have to leave, and Mike too needs to leave." Said Jake trembling. "You can't leave yet. You are to stay here until we find out what is wrong with your body and what caused it to happen. This could be medical history. Plus, you are not old enough to allow yourself to leave without our permission. Now if you'll be kind enough to tell us where you live and where your parents are it'll do us great deal of finding out what is wrong with you." "Um, I haven't got any parents. I live at 8 Sadle Drive. And I live with my aunt and uncle." He said wretchedly. Just the thought of his parent made him tremble. "Just give me a few minutes with my friend please." They nodded then left the room.
There was a TV nearby and what he had seen on it made him wish he hadn't. the reporter on the TV said: "The police arrived at the scene of a burning house but as soon as they got there the people had already been saved by someone by the name 'Nigh-hawk'. The police have put up wanted posters for they don't think someone without the proper training should take on this role. But if you ask me I think they just don't want to lose their jobs. So, if you capture this person you would win £100,000 cash prise." Jake was unable to describe how angry he was. "How could they do that to me?! I try to protect, and they put a bounty on me?! I need to leave." obviously he was angry about the news, but he was also hurt that they didn't trust him. "Come on you can't just leave. It's illegal mate! You can't get two bounty's on your head. Just stay here. For all you know maybe they could keep this a secret now." "No. I'm leaving. I don't care anymore. Plus, it isn't safe anymore here. They could find out what I really am and send me to the E.C.D or something." He snuck out of the room trying to avoid any cameras and staff. "Hey! You get here now! You can't leave yet!" demanded one of the staff members. It didn't matter anymore if the cameras saw him, as a large speaker told the entire hospital that one of the patients were missing. So, he ran and ran and ran. But he couldn't seem to find the exit. Ten doctors came rushing towards him, grabbing his arms and legs to stop from moving. Then one of them took an injection filled with liquid and stuck it in his arm. He couldn't feel anything. He was paralysed. He couldn't seem to be able to open his eyes ether.
The next time he woke up he was in the hospital bed again but this time it was different. He had arms and legs straps. Mike was still here but he seemed was truly angry with him. He could not even bear to look at his friends face. "M-" "Save it for when you get released. I've still got to go to school to go to tomorrow. So mum will call Markson to keep you compony until you leave." He said gloomily. "Oh no. I'm gonna be in so much trouble. He's gonna be so-" "Mabey you should have thought of doing that before doing something illegal." He left. He was extremely lonely apart from the news on the TV which wouldn't stop talking about Night-hawk. "Hello, I've come to take some blood." It was the doctor that wouldn't stop talking to him before. There were two security guards with him to make sure he didn't do anything. "I don't think that is the best idea. You would have to be very strong to get that needle inside me. That's if I didn't want you to do it." He wasn't lying- the doctor tried to put the needle in his arm, but it wouldn't pernitrate his skin. Even the security guards couldn't do it! "Well if your body won't let us do a simple blood test, it won't let us do the rest. I allow you to leave now. You don't need to stay." "Are you serious? I can leave. Yes! I need to apologise to Mike! Bye!"
He ran all the way to his class. "Er, Miss McGee but can I please talk to Mike." The entire class was staring at him as he had just violated the most important rule ever. "Yes mister Coop, you may talk to Mike. Just don't take long please." They went outside "Mike I'm so sorry I should have just listened to you, but I didn't and it all went-" "It's okay, I miss you too. I should probably tell you something though." "What?" "Well you were on the news." "You mean Night- hawk?" "No. I mean you-you. It said there was something special with your body, something they couldn't explain." "When was this?" "Yesterday." Jake felt like his heart was ripped out of his body and torn to pieces. "We should probably get in class.
They walked to Mike's house and sat down on his bed. Jake lied down on the bed and gave a loud sigh. "Are you okay mate? You don't look so good." "No, no, I'm fine. Just got a lot to figure out." "I really don't want to bother you but it's better if you 'work things out' later the police is out again, and you know what that means..." "Fine." He followed the police and realised they were going to the bank. "Oh this is so lame! It's so obvious that they would get caught." He caught the people and left. "Wow! That was quick." "Yeah 'cause it was easy. I mean seriously a bank robbery is way too easy for me. Makes you think they didn't even get training." "Mate I think you shouldn't go on the streets with your costume unless you have to. The police are buzzing." "My uncle probably wants me to clean the basement now. Bye." "Okay. Bye mate."
"I'm home what have I got to do?" "You're here, finally." Said Uncle Markson angrily, "Get started on the basement. NOW!!!" "Okay." Two hours later he finished. He went upstairs, he wondered how his suit would look like for he had never actually seen it on him in the mirror, he was always too busy. So he put on his suit and looked in the mirror. The door slammed open. Oh no. it was Tommy. "Y-you're the Night-hawk from You tube!" He stammered, "Dad! Get your old taser!! Now! Night- hawk is here!!! We're gonna be rich!" Oh god. Okay how do I get out of here. He thought. Uncle Markson came over with his taser. "Sir. Please don't- I'm only here to help please don't tas-" he tased him, but he could still here the sirens and shouting.
"Ow my head." He woke up to find himself in a police station, his mask still on. "Oh no. Where am I?" A police officer came in. "So you're the Night-hawk that has been doing, doing. Erm... you know what you did! So tell me, everyone was intrigued about how you flew. What was it? Rocket boosts?" Jake refused to talk. "TELL ME!!!" silence filled the room- apart from the pacing of the police officers feet. "The police always find a way of making someone talk. Some ways more severe than others. Now I will give you one more chance to talk, or else you will find yourself in a lot of pain. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. You asked for this." The chair that Jake was sitting on seemed to be absorbing his powers. Jake let out a deafening yell. "OKAY I'LL TALK!" "Excellent. Now let's see who is under that mask..." he pulled the mask off his head. "Your just a kid?" "Long story. Could I have my mask back? I don't really want people seeing who I am." "Yeah. Err, sure. I'm so sorry." "It's okay. This is probably the wrong time, but I've sort of got a pretty bad cut on my leg, and it won't stop bleeding." He said looking at his cut. The cut went from his knee to his ankle. "How did you get that?!" "I was fighting this man who was punching a man on—" "West Rain street." "Yeah. He was strong. He had knife. But the point is I'm trying to do the same job as you! I may as well have a use for my powers other than making the remote come to me." "So how long you had these powers?" "Four months. The suit helps me focus. When I got my powers it was like all my senses got ten times stronger." "Wow." "I don't think 'wow' is the correct term. It's more like pain. For every new power I get, pain is all I feel for at least ten minutes and I get really weak. Even healing hurts now." "I never realised how much pain you were in. I'm sorry." "No, don't be. You were just doing your job. Plus I actually am sorta doing something illegal by not handing myself in to the E.C.D." "You know what? You are officially allowed to leave. I allow it." "But I thought—" "No matter what you thought. I realised with what you said that by putting you in prison I would be putting you in for no reason which is illegal. We should probably get you to a doctor." "Thank you. Ow! My leg!" he screeched as his leg bled. "Just rest it. I'll call an ambulance." "No need. Put your hand on me." "Why?" "Just do it! I don't have much time!" within seconds they were Infront of the hospital that he had tried to escape before. "Help!!! This person needs help!" Immediately ten doctors came rushing over with a bed. "Th- thank you." Said Jake panting with pain. "It's all right. How long before you can stich him up?" he asked to the doctor. "We could do it now but with the condition he's in, his body is too unstable to put him under general anaesthesia so he will be in a lot of pain. Do you really want to do this to him?" said the doctor quit concerned. "Jake. Look at me. Your gonna have to make a really big decision right now, okay." "W-w-what d-decision?" he stammered. "The only way they can stich you up and save you is if you're awake whilst they do it. Keep in mind this will hurt." He said unable to look at his eyes which were filled with pain. "That's okay with me. Just m-make sure they don't try and take any blood." He replied. "Okay. Take him in to the operating theatre. How much blood has he lost?" "Approximately a litre. I'm not sure if he will survive." They started cleaning the wound. "Can we stop one moment!?" "Of Course. I don't expect you to feel no pain with such a large wound." "This stings. Like really stings." "I know, but you're a great job. Just clear your mind and try to sleep, we'll put a local anaesthesia." He tried to sleep.
He woke up to find Mike and the police officer sitting patently. "Your awake! Uncle Sam he's awake!" Mike shouted with joy. "Uncle? What do you mean 'Uncle'?" he asked confused. "Well a I found out that he's my uncle when you were in your week-long coma." "A week! I've been in a coma for a week?!" he bellowed. Mike put hand on Jake. "Jake. You're awake that's all that matters. Just calm down a little." "Calm down? Calm down?! I've been in a coma for a week and the first piece of advice that you give me is 'Calm down?! I can't calm d—" "You should listen to your friend over there." Said a man. He had black hair brown eyes and mid- brown skin. He was wearing a black suit and sunglasses even though it wasn't sunny. And on his feet he wore jet-black shoes. "Who are you and what do you want from me?!" "I'm not here to hurt you, so chill kid." "How can I trust you when I don't know your history at all?" "I guess you can't. But I come from an agency that collects superheroes numbers so that if earth ever needs them, they can help her." He explained. "What do you mean 'Earth'?" "If I told you, you wouldn't believe me." He said. Jake obviously wanted to prove him wrong. "Try me." "What if I told you there are aliens, gods and mysterious beings in our universe that look very much like us and can shape shift, and could be standing right next to you?" "Wow that wasn't nearly like what I expected you to say." He said astonished. "Not a surprize. You know not showing your identity to everyone, smart move kid." "I will come back in a week to see whether you have decided to join us or to stay in your position." "I'm sorry but in this job will there be money involved?" "Erm yeah it's pretty well funded. £100 an hour." "Did you just say a hundred p—" "Yes. Now make you decision within a week, because we've got a mission in three weeks, and we will be going to France. My name Chris Dime by the way."
Four days passed and he finally went home. "I'm home." He said seeing if anyone was home. "Where were you? You have been gone since we caught Night- hawk. We have so much money now!" said Tommy holding his new iPhone. "Oh, didn't you know? Night- hawk has been released. The police decided he was innocent." "How do you know Night-hawk is a he?" "Erm... I think I hear my phone ringing. Bye!" Wow. That was a close call. He thought. The police where speeding towards Drivel Down street. So he put his suit on and saw a familiar face. It was the police officer that he had met before! He magicked himself into the polices car. "Oh! Hi Jake!" He said. "Hey! Not cool!" "Oh right. Hi 'Night -hawk'. You know, it's kinda weird calling you that now that I know who you are." "I could put lots of people in danger if people find out who I am. Even Mike. Oh yeah, congrats on finding out he's you niece." "Thanks." "So where you are going?" "There has been a car accident caused by someone who was drunk in the city centre. Nobody really wants to take this one. We've had bad history with drunk people. My friend Fred was taking care of someone who was drunk. Woke up in hospital two weeks later." He said as the horror of the memory filled his eyes. "Well, I'll be okay. You can return to your base." "You know I can't do that. If you get hurt who will be there to help you?" "Fair point. Fine come on I'm not going to wait for you." They reached the city centre. They saw the drunk man standing outside the car, and another person stuck inside a car. "Put your hand behind your back now! Said Sam to the drunk person. "And why should I listen to you?" he said with one eye staring at him and the other eye looking down. "You deal with the drunk person; I'll deal with the person that is trapped." Commanded Jake. Sam nodded back at him. He grabbed the car that was directly above of the other car and threw it to the side. "Ma'am Are you okay?" "MY ARM!" There was a large shard of glass in the person's arm. "Sorry, dumb question. He tried to stop the bleeding in the arm. And with a snap of his fingers they were in the hospital. "Can I get a doctor here! Now! This person needs attention. His breathing isn't stable!" he yelled as the person's breathing turned into gasped of air. Doctors came rushing over. "Thank you for bringing him here Night- hawk, you may leave here now." "Any time."
He ran to where he had left before. "I'm back!" "About time! He's not settling!" "That will be easy, just one moment." He held the man's head and made him fall unconscious. "WHY IN THE WORLD DIDN'T YOU DO THAT EARLIER!!!" He shouted in frustration. "Sorry." "I should probably take him back to base." "Okay, bye."
"I think I should join Chris. I would be helping more than just the people in Britain." There was a knock on the door. This really surprised Jake because nobody ever knocked on his door. "Err... Come in!" It was Chris. "Hi. I hope you've made your decision." "How did you get in without-" he began, confused on how he came in without being spotted. "Long story. So you in or are you out?" "I'm in." "Excellent. You said there was at least ten minutes of pain when you got a new power, am I right?" "Yeah, why?" "I've made a devise that will make your pain go away. Or any pain caused by the chemical." "Are you serious?! How does it work?" "Stick these things on your chest, and when you need to use it press the green button and when you want to turn it off press the red button. It's quiet simple." "Wow! I don't know what to say!" "Thank you is what you should say. Quick piece of advice don't wear it in battle. Oh, and also, if I where you I would start packing you bags because we are going in a week." "Can my friend Mike come?" "No, you would be risking his life." "Oh. Okay then, Bye." He said sadly. "Bye kid."
It was the next day. He stuck on the devise to his chest, packed his bag for school then left. "Hey Jake! What's that?" Asked Mike looking at the devise that Chris had given Jake. "Oh, this? You don't need to worry about that." "Please tell me, I won't tell anyone." "I said you don't need to worry about it." He said not wanting to tell Mike what it was. They went to class and sat down next to each other. Jake's body started aching. "Oh no. Not now." He ran to the bathroom, well, it was more like limped. He pressed the green button on the device and blue light started channelling into his chest. He felt much better. He washed him face with some water, put his shirt on and walked to class. "Jake! What do you think you were doing! You cannot just walk out of class like that!" stormed Mr. Wendel. "Sorry Sir. There was something I had to deal with." He said staring at Mike who looked shocked, worried but also disappointed. "Follow me." He and the teacher walked along the corridors to reach the headteachers office. The teacher knocked on the door and the female voice of the headteacher allowed him in. "Oh hello Ben, is everything alright?" Mr. Wendel ranted about how Jake left the classroom without permission, and how he didn't return for ten minutes. "Jake, can you tell me why you did that?" "I would tell you miss, but I should probably only tell you, with nobody with us." He said embarrassed. "Ben please return to your class and I will talk to Jake." "What! But—" "Ben! Please return to your class." "Fine." "Okay. The room has nobody in it apart from you and me. Now, tell me." Jake took off his shirt. "What do you think you are doing!" she yelled. "Miss, I need to take off my shirt to show you what you wanted me to show you." "Okay then." "This devise helps me cope with the pain that I get. And the reason I ran to the toilet I because it lets out this blue light and it would probably freak everyone out." He explained. "Why didn't you tell your teacher? She would have told me." "I don't really want people finding out about it." "Well, thank you for sharing that with me Jake. You may return to your classroom. I will inform your teachers that if you need to leave the room, you can leave." "Thank you miss. Oh and also next week I will not be in school, I don't know for how long." "Why?" "I'm sure a guy called Chris will tell you. Have a good day!" he left and returned to class, but it was already end of school.
He walked to Mikes house. "Hey Mike, sorry about what happened at school. You probably hate me right now, but I have to talk to you." "It's alright, how about we go upstairs?" "Yeah." Jake explained what the device was and how it worked. "Wow! That's cool!" "I know right! The point is I wanted to talk to you about how I joined Chris." "You joined him?! That's great!" "Yeah but I will be leaving in six days to go for my first mission in France." "Oh! I've always wanted to go to France!" said Mike excitedly. "Mike. You won't be going. Chris said I would be risking your life, and I don't want to lose the only friend I've ever had." "It's okay mate, I know your only doing this to help people and if I come along you would be doing it for no reason." "Thanks for understanding. I knew you would."
A day passed. He and Mike were just walking in the streets when they heard gunfire. Jake put on his suit and started fighting the man who was holding the gun. He was now three metres away from the guy shooting and he had been knocked unconscious. The man pointed the gun at Jake from a distance. "Time to die." He pressed the trigger, but it didn't hit Jake. It hit Mike. "Mike!" that was the last thing he heard before he fell unconscious.
Mike woke up a day later. He healed fine but for some reason he didn't want to talk to Jake.
It was time. He was going to finally go to France. He said his goodbyes then entered the plane. "Kid. You okay?" said Chris. "Yeah. I am just a little nervous." He replied, "How did you feel on your first mission?" "Same as you. 'You're doing a really brave thing for the universe' that's what my old mentor told me. I have never forgotten those words since." "Were you guys close?" "Err, Yeah, we were pretty close." They arrived. "You go with Icicle, the one with the brown hair—" "I'm gonna guess his power is ice." "Yup. I'll go with electro- the electricity one- and wave- the water one- you can stay in the plane."
"So, Icicle neat name, what's your real name?" "My name is Joe. Yours's?" "Jake." They went to their rooms. "Wait we are neighbour's?!" he said happily. "Well we aren't roommates, so yeah."
Jake went into his room, unpacked all his things, and lied down on his bed. "I should call Mike." He grabbed his phone and called him. "Hello, Mike are you awake?" "Yeah, I was just about to go to sleep though." "Oh, sorry. Just wanted to check on you." "No, no, no, it's okay. So, what has been going on?" "So far- nothing. I miss you. And I'm sorry if I upset you." "It's okay, I was just worried. I miss you too. So do you know what you will be doing in your mission?" "Erm, some guy came from a different planet and they have some crazy dangerous weapons. We don't know what they want but I guess we'll find out." "They guy is from a different planet?!" "Yeah. Oh and also, there is this guy Icicle/Joe has the power of ice! He's really nice too. Right now he's in the hotel room next to mine." "Oh, mum's coming I have to go now, Night!" "Night."
The next day they started training for the fight, so what they did was fight each other. Jake lost numerous fights and was the worst in the group. "Jake, try fight back as well as trying to avoid the blasts." "Sorry Mr. Dime." "It's okay your new to this, I don't blame you for not being able to fight as well as the others. They have had years of training."
The fight finally came. "Stand down and this goes smoothly, don't stand down and you will go through hell!" shouted Chris to the foreign being. "Why should I? You humans aren't even half as strong as the almighty Gravidar!" Gravidar looked quite like a human apart from his skin which was like a snakes. "Gravidar? That's your name? I have heard a lot scarier names like killirial and volcanio, but Gravidar? Seriously?" ranted Chris. This obviously made Gravidar fuming, but what was coming nobody saw coming. He grabbed Jake, put his arm around his head and then put a gun to his chest. "I don't like to shoot the head; it gives a quick death. But one to the heart is slow and painful. Don't move or else this person dies!" "LEAVE THE KID!" commanded Chris in anger, pointing his gun to Gravidar. "You asked for this." He shot him in the chest. Blood was pouring everywhere. "Jake! Stay with me! Stay with me! I'm gonna get you some help!" Chris grabbed Jake, looked at Gravidar who was now escaping, then flew to the hospital.
"We should of gave him more training!" "He shouldn't have even come!" "I know. I'll tell the kid that we lost the guy." "We lost the guy?" Jake finally came to his senses. He climbed out of bed but fell on the floor. "Hey! What do you think you're doing? Joe, help me get him back in bed." "You should have gone after him, not me." "We don't trade lives. You were dying. As soon as you feel a little bit better, we'll take you back home." "What? No! I'm not done yet. I'm not done." "Your done kid. You tried your best. Fate just wasn't very kind to you." "Fine. How bad is it?" "How bad is what?" replied Chris. "You know, my chest." "Oh, Errr, Joe, you can take this one." He said not wanting to answer him. "Well... Erm... here is a mirror." There were bandages so he couldn't see it. He ripped all the bandages off, and it was terrible. A large hole that was stitched up was right in the middle of his chest. "H-how? I though he only shot me." He said confused but trembling in fear. "Seems that alien tech is a lot more advanced than ours. Sorry." Said Joe unable to look at him.
Two weeks later he travelled back to London. Mike was waiting at the airport. He had obviously been crying for his friend because his eyes were all swollen and red. As soon as they got off the plane Mike ran to Jake hugging him half to death. "Are you okay? I heard what happened. You could have died! I should have--" "Mike, it's okay, I'm okay."
Life went back to normal and Jake carried on with his missions and took extra caution. He made a special door in an ally way in town which was invisible to all apart from him, but they could see inside it. The door led to a room which was empty. He trained in this room. It was a Friday, so school ended quicker than usual, he went to this room, but little did he know, there were people watching. Three people followed him to his door and knew this was the target they were payed to catch. "We've got eyes on the target; I repeat we've got eye's on the target." Said the leader of the people who were trying to catch Jake. Just as Jake was about to enter the room, someone put this cloth over his mouth. It made him feel sleepy, and he couldn't open his eyes. "Shhhh. Shhhh. Sleep and this will all be over, shhhh..."
He woke up. He was now wearing a bright orange suit which had writing on it:
Prisoner 2478
He looked around and found himself in a prison cell. "Hey! Hello! Guard! Where am I?!" The guard walked over with a wicked smile. "You're in the Dangerous Individuals Strong hold in Russia formed by the E.C.D. You will be meeting a couple of people in a few minutes." "And by 'dangerous' do you mean 'people with special abilities'?" "Precisely." He said with an evil look. Ten long minutes went by with Jake trying to knock the bars of the sell down. He finally gave up, but than thirty guards came rushing to his sell. They grabbed his arms and legs to stop him from moving. "What! No! Where are you taking me?! What did I do?!" They took him to an empty room and tied chains onto his body so that he couldn't move. Then a lady and a man walked into the room. The lady was wearing a long dress, and the man was wearing a suit. "Hello, Jake. Ze boy my men 'av been tracking down for sree days. My name iz Layla and zis is Ryan." "WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!!!" He shouted in frustration. As soon as he started shouting all thirty guards put there gun to his head. "Calm down Jake. We vill do nossing to you if you follow za rules in here." "I'm sorry but I don't take orders from people who imprison people for no good reason." They lady pulled out her phone and played this high-pitched sound which he seemed to be the only one to hear it. It was causing him pain. STOP!!! PLEASE!!!" The lady was just laughing at the sight of Jake being in pain. She finally stopped it. "You will be seeing a lot more of this if you don't follow the rules." Said Ryan.
The guard returned him to his cell. Jake was planning out him escape plan. "What why am I thinking of a plan? I can just use my powers to get out of here!" he snapped his fingers and he was in the forest that the E.C.D's building was hiding in. suddenly, a large speaker started talking: "A prisoner know as Jake Coop has escaped. All guard leave your posts and find him. This is a code yellow." A guard was not far behind from him and pulled out his gun which only just hit him- it skidded his left arm. "AH!" he carried running until he lost them in the forest. He reached the end of the forest to find a small cafeteria nearby. He entered the café from the back door which led to the kitchen. He grabbed a cloth that was on a counter and placed it on his wound. He sat down on the floor, not wanting to be seen. He heard a voice, so he shut his eyes and put his hands behind his head. There was no hiding now. "Child? What are you doing?" it was not the E.C.D, but a man who was very concerned. "Come with me. You can put your hands down by the way." Jake followed the man into the café. "Wait here I'll get you some food for you." He brought him some toast and water "Thank you." "It's okay. I have to make a phone call." He grabbed his phone and went into a different room. He was talking to his friend or something. "Hello Zain, I found this boy probably fourteen, looks like he was abused of something." There was a knock on the door. Jake ran to the man. "Please don't tell them I'm here." Then he hid behind the counter. "Hello, zis is ze E.C.D you've probably never 'eard of it before. We are looking for a boy, here iz a picture of 'im. Have you seen 'im before?" "I'm afraid not. Sorry." "Well in you are telling the truth you won't mind if I take out my phone." She played the same high-pitched sound. "Stop!!!" Jake yelled exposing his hiding spot. His body was lifted off the ground and into a long van. "Sank you for your contribution."
He used his powers to escape the van again. He sprinted back to the café. He knocked on the door and the man opened it. "Hi. Can you give me a ride?" The man kindly agreed and took him back to London, he took him to Mike's house. "It has been weeks since I have seen him. Will he be angry with me?" "Just go to him. I'm sure he will tremendously happy to see you." Jake climbed out of the car and onto the stairs of the door and knocked. The door opened and the next second he and Mike were in a long hug. "Where have you been? The whole town has been looking for you! But that doesn't matter now. You're here! Oh god I missed you Jake." "I spent every night I was locked up in that cell thinking about you." "Cell? What do you mean 'sell'?" "The E.C.D found me." "Before we do anything, we need to get you some new clothes, you can't go walking around with prison clothes." They went to the shop to by some clothes. Just as they were paying for the clothes, Layla walked in. Then she played the sound again. Jake screamed in agony. The guards tied his hand and legs with chains- in public. They were about to enter the cell-like van when Jake started to fight back. He locked all of them in the cell of the van. "Who are you?" It was a girl from Jake's class- Lily. She He turned around for her to see his face. "Jake?" her face was filled with horror, she found out the guy that she least expected to join the football team, is the person that just knocked out five people as well as locking them up in a cage. "Why would you do that?!" stormed Lily. "Lily—" "This doesn't make sense!" "I know, I know. To be honest nothing about me makes sense anymore." "What do you mean?!" "Erm... Mike will explain to you." Mike told her what happened to Jake and about his journey (although it took a lot of convincing, she believed it in the end) whilst Jake changed into his new clothes. He looked into the mirror and saw scars all over him- especially his back. Lilly walked in, Jake couldn't see her, and saw his scars. She gave him a big long hug. "What is this?" asked Jake embarrassed. "You have been through so much." Jake was starting to feel a bit more comfortable, so he hugged her back. Mike walked in ruining the moment. "Jake, quick question, what are you going to do next?" Jake looked at Mike and replied: "I'm gonna free some innocent people."
They returned to the facility that Jake had been held in and snuck inside to where the other people were being held. "That is a lot of people!" said Mike amazed that Jake wasn't the only one with powers. "Shhhh! Do you want the guards to hear us? If they do find us, well, let's just say 'pain' is all you will feel for a very long time." Mike closed his mouth not wanting to be hurt. "A guard is coming. On my count we knock him out and take his keys from him, understand?" "No, I do not understand! I'm here like a thousand miles away from home risking my life for people I don't even know!" "." Said Lily coming out of her silence. "What?" "Four hundred and ninety-five point nine miles, not a thousand." She replied correcting Mike. "Well. Well. Erm... I said 'like', so it doesn't matter!" she let out a laugh. They took the keys and locked the guard up. A guy with chains around his neck arm and legs stared at them. He had ocean blue eyes, black hair and pale skin; he was in his early thirties . "If you are the people that are supposed to ' teach me a lesson' for trying to break out, you guys are sick and have no idea what you are doing. Some day we will be free, and you in our places- left to die. Hopeless. Lost. Begging for freedom." Lily opened the cell door and placed her hand on his cheek he flinched at the feeling of the fear of her hurting him. "We're not going to hurt you. Jake is a survivor. And he came back to free the rest of you magnificent people from this vile place. Don't worry, no harm will come to you anymore." "Lilly we can't save all of them, you know that right?" Jake asked Lilly. She started tearing up. "I am not going to watch or even think about the fact that there are people that are locked up in these cages, left to be tortured or even killed! I can't- I just can't. Please, don't do this to them, and if you're not doing it for them you can do it for me. Jake. You were lucky to escape from them; they didn't get your amazing chance to come back and save these people from their misery. Please..." "Yup! I knew we shouldn't have brought her. She takes one sample and just wants more!" said Mike. "Mike! Look at him! Locked up as if he was a monster! You really don't care about anyone's life but yours!" "I don't care? I've been looking out for Jake for months! I got beat up for him! I got grounded like fifty times for him! And guess what? I even got shot for him even though it wasn't my fight! So don't even think that I don't care about this! So many times I was close to losing my friend and I would pray that he wouldn't die. You don't know how that feels, when your friend could be lying in his death bed. I'm the one who understand the pain of not being able to do something more than anyone else. It feels like someone got a shovel and ripped out your heart." "They're coming you need to hide!" said the prisoner. Jake held Mike and Lilly's hands and made them become invisible. "Hello Jet, I am here because apparently you tried to escape from this sell. Is that true?" it was a large man with blond hair green eyes and extremely tanned skin. "Yeah and I don't regret it Luke!" he yelled trying to break free from the grasp of the chains. Luke grabbed a long stick from a guard and electricity was coming out of it. "Nine hundred volts just in this stick. A normal person would die from this but all the people in here would just be severely hurt. Just like how Jake is going to be in!" He turned around and put the stick to Jake's chest. Jake screaming and roaring in pain was far too much for Lilly. She came out of her hiding. "STOP IT! CAN'T YOU HAVE SOME KINDNESS! STOP IT! PLEASE! STOP THIS! HE'S JUST A BOY AND YOU THINK IT'S OKAY TO JUST HURT HIM LIKE THAT?! STOP IT!" Luke stopped the electricity and stared at her. "My dear child people like you friend Jake are the reason I am unable to trust anymore. I used to have a best friend, his name was Arthur, he had powers and didn't tell me until the last day of school. He showed me his powers and then I killed him." "You monster! He trusted you and you killed him?! Your best friend and you killed him like he was an insect!" "Yes. I did. He was a threat to humanity, and so are all the people in these cells!" "Y-you c-can't do th-this. Look at th-the people you h-have h-hurt. Th-this one is n-now afraid t-to be touched." Jake spoke up even though the pain he was in was indescribable. He felt like death had come knocking on the door. "You shouldn't have come back, you little slug." He placed the stick on his chest again, Jake storming with pain. "You could do this to me for the rest if the day and would still save these people!" said Jake trying to keep the pain out of his voice. Mike finally came out of hiding. "If I were you I would run. I've just called for help." "Mike! No! they're gonna find out about us they can't do that!" yelled Jake. "Hey kid." It was Chris! He helped Jake up. "You are all under arrest for child abuse, actually all kinds of abuse. Your also are using illegal weapons so... Yeah." They started fighting the people. Somebody pulled out a gun and where going to shoot Mike. Jake ran Infront of Mike and took the bullet himself. He started bleeding out. "No! Jake why did you do that?" Said Mike now sobbing. "Now I have really said my thank you for taking the bullet for me." He said with his dying breath. All went dark.
"No! I'm not going to leave him!!! I can't leave him! Let go of me!!!" it was Mike. The police were trying to get him away from Jake. Jake was lying down and a transport hospital bed. Jake opened his eyes, stumbled of the bed and ran to Mike. "What are you doing they need to get you to the hospital!" "I'm not going anywhere without you." The police let him go so that Jake could go to the hospital to be treated. He healed perfectly fine and Jake and he where such never close friends. Even Lilly now was their friend. Mike and Lilly where the only ones to know Jake's secrete. They now went to school together play together and talk about everything together.
"So we're meeting at Lilly's house today?" asked Mike. "Sorry, I can't go." Said Jake. "Let me guess, superhero business?" Replied Lilly. "Yeah, bye!" "Bye!" "Bye!"
The End
