It was a calm chilly spring morning, as the sun slowly rose up from behind the rigid mountains, the streets slowly filled with people ready for the day.
At the edge of the city, on top of a hill sat a log cabin. Inside sat a 20 year old woman dusting off her sword, lost in thought. In a world like this one can never be too careful!
"Maya do you really have to do that at the table?" asked aunty Catherine, snapping her out of her daydream. "I'm sorry I'm just super excited to start my training" Maya said as she laughed nervously. "I hope you have all of your things packed up, don't need to be forgetting anything important-" "No worries Aunt Cath, I went over everything I need like three times" Maya interrupted.
~come on auntie how many time do you have to hassle me like this! You should know me, it's always been my dream to be accepted into the Bahagalah Knights Academy[1], everyone knows it's the best training academy in the entire world! I cannot wait to see who else got accepted since they only take the strongest and most skilled, like myself...~
"Since you decided to get up at the crack of dawn with me, I'll make us a filling breakfast before you leave. It's the least I can do, I'll miss you dearly when you leave.." she said and she quickly started to get breakfast ready. "That sounds good, thanks auntie! Do you need any help?" Maya asked. "You know what my girl I got this, go shower an get ready for the day. No doubt it's going to be a long one" Auntie Catherine said sweetly, waving a wisk towards the bathroom.
By the time Maya finished showering and getting dressed, Aunt Catherine had just finished cooking. "Time to eat, hurry before it gets cold!" she called out. When Maya came into the room her nostrils filled with such a delightful smell. In the middle of the table there were fluffy pancakes surrounded with scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits, slices of ham and a plate of assorted fruits. "Auntie this smells so amazing! Thank you so very much for cooking" Maya said and she loaded her plate with a little bit of everything on the table. "You are welcome my girl, don't forget to save some for me" aunt Catherine chuckled.
After they got done eating they did the dishes together and got the horses ready for the ride. After they were done getting the horses ready, her auntie said solemnly "Please promise me that you will come back, I don't know what I would do without you my girl. You make everyday so much better for me just seeing your face but since you'll be gone for a while just promise me this okay..." Maya was quite surprised by this, she hugged her Aunt tight and replied "Of course Auntie I promise you that I will come back when I'm finished, I promise."
When she let go Maya noticed the tears in her eyes and asked with a concerned tone "Auntie are you okay? What's wrong?!". Wiping the tears away from her eyes Aunt Catherine hesitantly said "I know I say this a lot but each and everyday you remind me more and more of your father. I'm sorry for being a cry face right now, but these are happy tears, I swear." Maya gave her one more tight hug and said "I know Auntie, I love you so much thank you for everything you have done for me! I'm so grateful for you."
After putting her bags in the back Maya ran back inside to make sure she didn't forget anything important, thankfully she grabbed everything. Racing back outside, she settled herself next to a her Aunt in the front of the carriage, they are finally off to the Bahagalah Knights Academy....
