Chereads / The midnight musician / Chapter 35 - Let's NOT catch them!

Chapter 35 - Let's NOT catch them!

"Who would..." Fu Jie stopped himself from asking a useless question. Even if he asked this question, there was no way the others would be able to answer him.

Xu Lifen's eyes silently wandered around as she secretly glanced at each and every person that was sitting at the other tables located on the second floor along with them.

Fu Jie also looked around to see if he could spot someone suspicious but after looking once, he sighed.

They all looked suspicious!

It didn't come as a shock that everyone was silently glancing at them every once in a while. They had caused a ruckus and given out their identities when they tried to get in between the two fighting customers, and since they didn't bother trying to hide their identities, everyone present here already knew that this group of people were from the maple passion pavilion and since they knew this, they couldn't help but look at them every once in a while.

It was impossible to tell who had done it and since nobody except for the waiter had touched their wine, there was a high possibility that it wasn't any of the people sitting around them.

"What do we do now?" Fu Jie asked.

He thought they would have to fight or maybe go on a mission to find the culprit, but unlike his expectation, Xu Lifen only shook her head as a response.

Dai Xiaobo, "Since someone doesn't want us here, let's go."

Fu Jie gulped.

They were going to leave just like that?!

What happened to the 'I'm from a great sect, how dare you try to provoke me?!' bullsh*t?!

Fu Jie was sure that he had seen this type of plot too many times and in almost all of them, they would find the culprit and punish them!

Chen Qiao stood up instantly and it looked as if the previous jars of wine he had gulped down didn't even leave behind a trace on his face. He looked completely sober and serious as he looked down at Fu Jie and asked, "Do you know who the culprit is?"

Fu Jie shook his head, "Of course, not."

"Then we can't do anything about it."

"..."

This wasn't sitting well with Fu Jie.

Someone had actually tried to poison them and all they were going to do is walk away?! Fu Jie was never the nice type to let such things go. He was the type of person who would kill the person who thought about killing him. He would never let a culprit go!

Xu Lifen patted her clothes as she stood up and Dai Xiaobo also stood up.

Fu Jie reluctantly stood up with a frown as he asked, "You are serious? We're going to leave just like that?"

Xu Lifen, "Then does Xia didi want to go look for the culprit?"

Fu Jie enthusiastically nodded his head, "Of course! We should catch him and make him pay!"

"Aiya!~" Chen Qiao opened his mouth as he pulled Fu Jie with him, "Forget about that! Just pay for the wine and get out of here instead."

"But..." Fu Jie wanted to say a lot but he was stopped.

Xu Lifen, "But nothing! Just pay the bill and get out of here."

Dai Xiaobo seemed to be the only one who was willing to give Fu Jie a clearer explanation, "We aren't here to cause trouble and we don't want to get noticed."

They walked to the main counter, where the waiter who had served them looked at them with a bit of shock, "I could've come over there with the bill, why would these esteemed cultivators-"

"Just give us the bill already!" Chen Qiao snapped.

The waiter gulped as he immediately wrote something on a piece of paper before tearing it and handing it over to them.

"H-here is the bill for 8 jars of peach special wine."

Chen Qiao looked at the bill and for a split second, his eyes slightly widened but he coughed twice and hid it well as he commented, "Only this much for eight jars? It's a reasonable price."

He gave the bill to Xu Lifan who looked at the price written on it and didn't even bother saying anything before handing it over to Dai Xiaobo who was even more intelligent than her and didn't even bother receiving the bill as he walked away, "I'll go out first. You come out after paying."

"..."

Xu Lifen handed the bill back to Chen Qiao, "Since it was your idea, why don't I let you take care of this?"

Chen Qiao seemed to have wanted to say something but before he could say anything, Xu Lifen had already walked out, following after Dai Xiaobo.

Chen Qiao suddenly turned his head to Fu Jie and coughed before handing the bill over, "Since it's cheap, I'll let Xia didi pay for it."

Fu Jie furrowed his eyebrows as he unconsciously took the bill out of curiosity and as he read the price written on it, he almost cursed at the man who had handed him the bill. He tried to hand it back to Chen Qiao but the man was faster than light when it came to running away.

Fu Jie gulped as he glanced at the bill and then at the waiter.

The waiter seemed to have already noticed the unwillingness of these cultivators and he also looked to be warning Fu Jie with his glare: Don't you dare run away.

Fu Jie took out his money pouch that was given to him by the boy he had saved. He was saving this money for rainy days but it seemed that all the money was going to be spent on wine that he wasn't even able to taste.

Curse you, Bastard Chen! Cheap?! Cheap your ass!! How dare you run away shamelessly?!

I'm gonna kill you!!!

Fu Jie handed over the 12 gold coins reluctantly and the waiter seemed to be delighted as he counted them and responded happily, "Thank you for choosing our humble Tavern! We hope to serve you again!"

Pei! Pei! Pei!

Nobody wants to come back here!

To hell with you and your overpriced wine!!

If we were in the real world, I would've sued you for scamming customers!

When Fu Jie walked out, he was greeted with the sight of the three people who had abandoned him.

Chen Qiao smiled brightly as he walked up to Fu Jie and circled his arm around Fu Jie's neck, "Have you paid? That's great! Great! And here I was wondering if we needed to call Elder Dayu to help us pay. Xia didi is so rich!"

Fu Jie knew he wasn't supposed to hit this man because of his status that was higher than Fu Jie's, however, at this moment, Fu Jie wouldn't rationally think and he still ended up elbowing Chen Qiao's abdomen.

"Give me back my money!"

Chen Qiao clutched onto his stomach in pain as he slouched down, "Xia didi is so... Cruel."

"Aren't you Elder Dayu's disciples?! Where the hell is all your money?!"

Chen Qiao cheekily grinned, "Elder Dayu's disciples are all broke."

Xu Lifen coughed as her cheeks finally saw a tint of red on them, "We don't have that much money."

Chen Qiao nodded as he pouted, "We get an allowance every month but the allowance is only 5 gold coins."

Dai Xiaobo, "It's to teach you the value of money and resources."

Chen Qiao clicked his tongue, "It's just a way for Elder Dayu to embarrass us in public! He wants us to live like beggars!"

"Junior brother Chen! Don't spout nonsense without thinking!" Xu Lifen scolded him.

Fu Jie frowned as he heard that they were going to be given only five gold coins every month. That amount... wasn't it a bit too low?!

This also meant that the saved-up fund Fu Jie had was now wasted on buying wine for these people!

Fu Jie was surely going to hold a grudge for this!

Chen Qiao immediately shut his mouth after hearing Xu Lifen scold him.

Fu Jie frowned as he asked, "Does your Elder Dayu also live like a beggar?"

Chen Qiao gasped as he heard this question, "How could that be?! He's the sect master's son so of course, he has a lot more money than us."

Xu Lifen nodded as she added, "He was ranked third in that stupid young master list."

"Stupid young master list?"

Chen Qiao, "It's a list that is updated every year. All the sons and daughters of the sect masters from different sects are compared there and Elder Dayu happens to be the third richest among them."

Dai Xiaobo suddenly frowned as he joined the conversation, "But he still lives like a beggar."

Xu Lifen, "..."

"..." Chen Qiao had just been scolded for saying that Elder Dayu wanted to make them live like beggars and Dai Xiaobo actually dared to directly call their Shizun a beggar?!

Dai Xiaobo shook his head innocently, "He doesn't like spending money."
