Jonah was completely baffled. He knew Eden loved him but was fairly certain he needed her more than she needed him. She was the very air he breathed. So how on earth had she concluded that he didn't want to be with her long term?
He had to say the right thing here; he couldn't screw this up by jumping the gun if he misunderstood what she was saying right now. But if he didn't misunderstand it, he needed to reassure her that whatever she was thinking was absolutely not the case before she got more upset.
"…I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say here," he said slowly. "If I'm understanding you correctly, you're upset because you think I don't want to have a future with you based on the way I worded something?"
Eden's face was still hidden by her hands as she nodded. His heart stopped. If she was upset about him potentially not wanting a future with her, didn't that mean she did want one with him?
