They all found some rocks to sit on and eat the lunch Bob had packed. He insisted on doing it himself so his wife wouldn't have to on a day they were supposed to be celebrating her. The sandwiches, chips, and fruit were his doing but Eden made the snickerdoodles, which were Mel's favorite cookie.
She beamed at her. "Thank you so much for the cookies, Eden! They're delicious."
"You're welcome," Eden replied with a smile of her own.
Troy rolled his eyes and elbowed his cousin as he whispered, "Sometimes I swear Mom loves her more than either of us."
"I heard that!" Mel said crossly as everyone else laughed.
It was a beautiful spring day and a light breeze surrounded them as they ate. Eden couldn't think of a better way to be spending her least favorite day of the year. She was doing one of her favorite things with good food and some of her favorite people.
