Megan Cheney had always been obsessed with music. Her mother enrolled her in piano and violin lessons from the time she was three years old and had figured out how to play real tunes on her toy instruments.
When the time came to choose an instrument to major in at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, she made the heart-wrenching decision to go with the violin instead of the piano. Something about the sound of strings called to her, though knowing piano was still a handy tool of the trade.
She graduated at the top of her class and immediately got an offer to be a second violin at Symphony Silicon Valley. She loved her job and it was a privilege being surrounded by so much talent but she was undeniably the youngest person there.
