Troy tried to keep his mother's words in mind but they didn't change how weird it was not having Jonah home for Easter. They should be lying around gorging themselves on candy or having board/card game showdowns right now.
His dad played Monopoly with him in an attempt to cheer him up, which he appreciated, but it didn't work as well as he hoped. It felt wrong not having Jonah here for Easter for the first time since he originally came to live with them.
Things like this would be happening a lot more often now that Eden was around, wouldn't they? How many more holidays would it take for him to stop feeling the hole his cousin's absence left?
He liked Eden; he really did. She fit into their family dynamic well and she made Jonah happier than he had ever seen him. He couldn't fully resent her taking him away because of that.
