Ezra sighed and began rocking the swing back and forth with his feet. "It wasn't easy. You know how long I've been with Nadia; it took a lot of convincing on her part. I knew I would rather die than do what Dad did but I had never seen a happy, healthy relationship last.
"The couples I did know that stayed together weren't happy even if they weren't cheating on each other. They drifted apart and didn't have much to do with each other anymore, finding more satisfaction in outside sources than each other.
"I loved her more than anything and didn't want to imagine us drifting apart like that because of feeling trapped. I figured there was no reason to mess with a good thing but she didn't see it that way.
