Monday night was particularly bad. Jonah was completely lost in thought and couldn't even try to distract himself. He ended up lying down with his head in Eden's lap as she read a book and simultaneously played with his hair.
"Are you doing okay?" she asked eventually because he had been too quiet for the past few hours.
"No. But better than I would be if you weren't here so thank you," he said quietly.
Eden sighed and put down her book. It seemed that he needed her full attention right now. "What have you been thinking about all this time?"
Jonah didn't reply immediately. He seemed to be measuring his words. "What ifs mostly. What life would have been like growing up with my own parents. What sort of people my siblings would have been.
