Chapter 25 - Under the canopies

I walked along with Min towards the forest. The grass was still a little wait as there was limited sunlight falling on the ground. The trees were so tall that when we watched them from where we were standing, they almost looked as if they ended up touching each other at the tips. The other students walked to the other directions and in no time I found us alone with no one else.

"Are we going in the right direction?" I asked as I looked around a little to confirm if we had any people around.

" I guess so…Bella." I was worried when I heard her voice coming out weak. I turned to see Min standing on just one leg while she balanced herself by leaning towards a tree with one of her hands. She looked tensed as she brought her right foot up to take closer look of it. I ran towards her to see that she had something stuck in her shoe. It was something thin and had pierced her skin when it entered way inside the shoe sole. I could see that it was painful when she hissed and held my shoulder.

" Calm down. Let me see." I said as carefully tried to make her take a seat under the tree. I laid her feet sideways on my thigh and then proceeded to get the branch out of her foot. I didn't take her shoes off because that would only hurt her more. " It's already out…just wait a little bit." As I slowly pulled it out I saw that the branch had red liquid covered in most of it." Take the shoe off now."

The foot was all red around the wound when I looked at it. "Do you have anything so we can cover it?" I asked Min.

" No…I left my handkerchief at the motel." She answered.

I checked my pockets all around but found nothing. The clothes I were wearing were just a jacket and under that high necked top that were not easy to tear at all. " When did it get? Did you not notice?" I was panicking as I looked around for help but could not see even a single face that I knew. In fact there were just trees all around and our classmates who we were supposed to follow had already left that spot.

" Come on…how am I supposed to know something like this would happen?" Min said as a tear rolled her eyes.

" Okay  I am sorry." I apologized for asking her that stupid at the very first place. I placed her feet back to the ground and stood up to scream for help. I got my cell phone out call someone for help but it was either switched off or they weren't picking up. I tried calling a few more people but then the network went off. I watched that the sunlight reaching the grass was getting lesser and lesser now. I looked up to see dark clouds circling above. This was just not the right time and right place. The mud would get swampy and the weather much colder.

" Is it normal to rain in winters?" Min commented.

" It's not winters yet. We are in a hill station honey." I reminded. " They said the weather is very unpredictable here."

" Oh..It's probably raining already." Min said as she looks at her feet as it glistened from the drops of water. I ran towards her to cover her wound with my jacket. " You will feel cold." Min resisted but I put the jacket anyway. We bought squeezed closer to each other and tried not to get wet under the shade of the huge tree. It wasn't helping much as the rain got heavier. " See if you have network now."

I checked my phone again and then after tapping it for a few times I finally got to see the bars on the screen. I tried calling Lily as she was one of the persons we were following. I prayed for her to pick up the call this time as I tapped the back of my phone with my nails impatiently. Unfortunately after ringing a few times her phone was out of coverage." Lily isn't picking her phone." I informed.

" Call someone else…Adi?" she suggested.

" I don't have his number and I don't think so they were coming along with us in this direction."

" He will if you call." She insisted.

" What about the phone number?"

" I got that. I don't have a single signal bar so just call him when you can."

I dialed his number and waited for a response. This is that kind of a situation where you need something very urgent had to call a person you would usually never and in the back of your mind you just wish they won't pick the call even if you need them the most at such a situation because you are just too awkward with them. Unfortunately or fortunately he did pick up. " We are stuck here and we are under a tree and Min is injured so come as soon as possible; I don't know how you will find us out but just hurry up. Bye." I blurted everything in one breath and hung up the call to see Min's disgusted look on her face.

" I hope he understood whatever you said because I couldn't get it."

We waited for some time and then some more time and that's when I regretted that I should have at least waited for him to guess who was on this side of the phone.
